Found this video today because my 2014 F150 was having the same noise. Followed your steps and found the same broken piece in the fan. Other than the rear screw being so difficult to access, the fix was not that difficult. Thank you for the great video! Saved me a ton of $$$
The same thing happened to me. Same rubber/plastic hose end-cap. The sound first freaked me out. I thought I had a serious engine problem. LOL. But then turned off the A/C and fan, then the sound went away. I felt the vibration to discover location. Searched for blower replacement, and found your video. Thank God. From Austin, Texas. August 2023. Got it fixed in about 30 minutes. Your video saved me. Thank you.
2013 F150 King Ranch-Exact thing sounded in my truck driving down the highway. Watched this and others like it. Identical part broken and in the blower! All good now and thankful for your guidance. Saved a lot of money. This should be a recall!
The same thing happened to me, but now the smells from the street come in because that broken piece is the air circulation cover. I had to remove the blower again and block the door so that only the cabin remained.
It's the Blend Door Actuator flapper and the Blower Motor! I had mine replaced on Tuesday morning and everything is back to normal! That's the crap that got shoved down by the wiper blades louvers.
Thank you for the video! Easy fix. Guy at the shop mentioned that the Max AC wouldn’t work anymore with the plastic piece broken off but seems to be working just fine. Thanks again.
I can not thank you enough , I had just purchased this truck (90* weather) and it sounded like a train was in my blower . The higher I turned up the fan , the louder it got . After watching your video I immediately went to taking out the blower . Low & behold I found the same exact PC inside of it . Ford has got to know about this after looking at all the comments. This appears to be the norm when you hear this when you increase the fan level. Thank you so much for posting this video . Probably saved me hundreds of $$$ by NOT taking it to a mechanic . We all know how that would've turned out . 😊
Having this same issue, 2014 F-150 FX4. So thankful to find this video as I am very confident I will find that little plastic piece in my fan. I was already having a blend door issue prior to this and have the part, but it's so deep in the dash I have been hesitant to fix it. Think I'm ready to ruck up and get both issues fixed now. Wish me luck.
This worked! I couldn't take the motor off but I could reach in it just enough to take that rubber piece out. Works like new and you probably saved me a couple hundred bucks, thank you!
Had same thing happen on my 2014 this last week. Thanks for the video, after trying to be a contortionist to get the screws out I had it fixed in roughly 35-40min.
Wow exact same problem and part. 2013 f150 XLT ecoboost. That crazy. So glad I found your video. Had it out and fixed in 10 minutes. 8mm small socket for the 3 screws. Same exact piece and broken spot.
Dude! Thanks so much for making this video. Had the same issue today on my 2014 F150. Stopped at the convenience market, and when I was pulling out onto the highway I heard a pop. Didn't think much about it until I got home and heard and felt the vibrating sound. Just knew I was going to be out a bunch of money taking my truck into a dealership. Until, I TH-camd it and viewed your video. Found the same mysterious piece in my blower fan! Thanks again!
Quick shout out of gratitude for this video. I had the same sound. Removed the same stupid piece from the fan cage. Back to normal behavior. Zero cost other than a couple 1/4” pieces I needed to get anyway.
The piece you found opens and closes the fresh air/recirculated air door, when you change the setting on the dash.. Replacing that part is an extensive project. Before re-installing the blower you can open (always fresh air) or close (always recirculated air) the door based on your needs. Fixing it involves removing the dash.
@@MatthewDuran21 I opted not to replace the the broken piece. I removed the blower fan, removed the knob from the blower cavity, and re-installed the blower. The defective piece lets you control fresh or recirculated air into the cabin. Based on the time and cost to repair the defect. Great video, thanks for sharing this Joshee! When mine started vibrating I thought I had thrown a rod and lost an engine! I already ordered a new blower motor from Amazon when I found your video. I might just remove the rubber thing and keep the old motor now. Thanks for the sleuth work.

Thanks for posting. The exact same thing was in my blower fan. It's the cap off of the hub-post (don't know the "real" name) of the fan. I thought about supergluing it on, but figured that in a year or two I'd have to do the job over again. Re-installed the QUIET fan without the broken off cap. Maybe it was there to keep out moisture. Time will tell. Anyway, now I know how to replace it when/if it fails. Thanks again.
The same thing happened on my 2014 F150 today. Got the piece out of the fan, no problem. Now it's stuck in recirculating mode. I'm going to try manually putting it in fresh air mode and locking it there. My windows will fog here in Ohio if it's in recirculating all the time. Nice video, thanks
Thanks for sharing, I found the same broken part in my motor. Now on to part 2, I will work on the recirc door replacement in the video shared by Motors and Mischief!
The piece everyone is talking about is from the control duct up above the fan. It breaks off on all these Fords just removing it from the fan gets rid of the fan noise but the problem is actually up above this area. it controls the cabin air
Great video, thank you so much. This happened to my 2014 a couple of weeks ago. On Monday I took the truck into the dealership and it took them two days to tell me it was the blower motor. Cost to replace it was over $900. Gave the go ahead to replace it. Dealership BS about ordering the part, so Friday comes along and I’m thinking they’re calling me so I can pick my truck up. NOPE, they called to tell me my blend door actuator is broken and needs to replaced. WTF!! Told me the additional charge to replace it and I’ll lose my truck for another 3 days. Pissed off with the situation, told them not to touch my truck and I’ll pick it up tomorrow since they called me at 4:45. Wide awake at 0300 thinking if I made the right decision. Now I know I did after watching this video.
Yeah the knob that breaks off is for the air recirculation blend door. The dealership repair involves removing the dash. I haven’t actually repaired the blend door, but I don’t really care about the recirculation door. The ac, heat, defrost, and blower motor all works fine without it.
Same exact thing happened to me. The dealer wanted to fix the door in addition to replace blower motor for over 2 grand. Ford should be ashamed. I removed, then reinstalled the motor in less than 30 minutes. The blend door will have to wait for the next owner,

I've seen other videos with the same problem. That broken piece of plastic connects to a flap that moves/slides to block outside air from going into the truck.
Just had this problem as well as you all. Exactly same thing inside. Took longer to get the back screw off than everything else 😂 fixed the issue and glad I found this, thx!

@@chasesours3035 yeah there are a few comments that answer it. The knob is from the air recirculation blend door. If you search the comments, there's a link to how to replace it without removing the dash.
@@CarsandJoshee Thats the best case scenario. You can live without that door working as long as you have good air movement. I had a 2003 Dodge truck that the recirc door broke off and blocked the entire airflow in the cabin. Not fun when its August in Texas.
i been dealing with this for about a 3 months, i figured it wasnt major so i didnt worry too much but that noise is af... im about to go tackle it now and ill be back... thanks in advance
Mine just got the noise today seems like its a heat issue and a good bump in the road. Haven't dove into yet, but this video definitely is giving me a good reference point.
Update: this video really helped me identify the problem quickly. It was the first step I went too and it was that same broken piece. You have to take the glove box off there 3 bolts 7mm then open the glove box and remove it. Next there is two plastic retaining clips holding a cloth cover remove those. Then you get yo see the blower fan housing Definitely recommend unplugging the connector for it. To remove the housing its 3 8mm self tapping screws. The middle one I used a socket wrench, the other two I used a ratching wrench worked the best. Thanks for the video!!
yea u have to pull the dash then the evap housing for the fresh air inlet housing the actuator at times will get stuck and when u press the recirc it ends up breaking the housing and that rubber piece will fall in the blower motor... ive done it without removing the evap housing and just the dash but its a lil bit tricky to get your hand back there with a small ratchet and socket but it can be done so u dont have to discharge the a/c and remove the heater hoses and a/c lines
Thanks . Just like everyone else mine just went last week when I hit a bump. I also have noticed when my controls are switched off I still have air blowing through the vents
Hi Josh - Just watched the video. In it you asked if anyone knows what the little plug is that fell into your blower motor. It looks exactly like the plug that fell off my Blower control or blender assembly. Have 2014 F-150. Mechanic fished it out. Still have it. Hope it helps.
I have a 2011 Ford Expedition with the same noise from the front blower motor but there's no debris nor broken parts to be found. It starts normally but after 5-10 minutes makes the noise and slows down. What do you suggest?
I know exactly what that little part is. I had the same issue and same little broken off part. Its the actuator that connects the motor to the flap that changes your air from outside air to cabin air (recirculated) If you dont replace that you wont be able to change to recirculated air. I believe the flapper will rest in the position of outside air. You can see the little piece that broke off connects to a gear. Looks like what happened is the gear just kept turning and snapped off that plastic part. I know all this because I shoved my cell phone up their and videoed it all. Anyway I put it all back together and will just live with outside air and no recirculated air.
Is the part that broke off essential? Does it need to be replaced? My 2013 XLT F-150 started having this same issue the other day…but I haven’t had time to get the blower out yet to check…but I’m thinking it’s going to be the same problem. I’d like all my AC controls to work as they should…so is that broken piece important?
Ford just brought a lot of folks together in the wrong way. lol. I’m still working on my 2013 King Ranch Sunroof, Front fender liners(carpet?), and generally just a constant life of check engine lights if I pass anyone. lol. But let me get that cap outta there. Heard what I thought was a rock hitting the car on the highway. Next thing you know. Broottttt! I’ve got PTSD. I was like oh shit! A warthog over head! lol CAS Missions are terrifying even when you aren’t the target.
Okay so dis morning my blower started making that noise🤦♂️ So I’m kinda thinking it’s the same problem (Ford) y’all are having. Lol. We’ll obviously I know it’s the blower but idk what’s in it yet but probably the black thing. Is it still working right without replacing that?
Ok so mine did the same thing… pulled motor broken piece was there . Removed it reversed steps and the noise was gone… UNTIL today it started making that same sound like something hitting/riding against the fan. What now? Is there a simple fix to suspend what ever is hitting the squirrel cage? Silver tape? Epoxy??? Don’t want to spend the $1700 it will cost to pull the dash. I could stick my hand in there and feel the door and make it move up and down. I need my A/C in Arizona!!! HELLLLLLLLP. Please
Did you pull the blower motor back down to see if something else had fallen into the cage? If there’s nothing in the cage at least you’ll be able to see what might be contacting it. Use zip ties to secure any wiring away from it.
Same thing happens with my F150 fX2 2014, and I find the same little pice of plastic inside , Don’t know where it’s coming from, but I figured out later, THANKS BODY, NOW MY WIFE IS MOR OF HAPPY TO DONT HEAR MORE NOISE 🥰

@@chasesours3035 yeah there are a few comments that answer it. The knob is from the air recirculation blend door. If you search the comments, there's a link to how to replace it without removing the dash.
Thanks for the video! Exact same issue and exact same solutuion.
Yeah, its a blend door coupling. It has the same tooth pattern as the blend door actuator. Lots of pics online to reference.
Thanks. Did some looking; best I can tell is it’s the air recirculation blend door.
@@CarsandJoshee Thats the best case scenario. You can live without that door working as long as you have good air movement. I had a 2003 Dodge truck that the recirc door broke off and blocked the entire airflow in the cabin. Not fun when its August in Texas.
I just found mine broke off in the blower motor. Can you go without repairing it?
i been dealing with this for about a 3 months, i figured it wasnt major so i didnt worry too much but that noise is af... im about to go tackle it now and ill be back... thanks in advance
This is a very helpful video. Thank you. I found the exact same part. So, is there a name for the part that is broken off?
Yup. Same thing on my 2014 ecoboost. I'm slow, 45min fix. Thanks for posting.
Just found the same part in my f150! Thanks for this helpful video. No way I was spending $150 for a diagnostic fee. You’ve saved me time and money 🙏
Just did mine and found the same exact thing. Thanks for the help.
Then you get yo see the blower fan housing
Definitely recommend unplugging the connector for it. To remove the housing its 3 8mm self tapping screws. The middle one I used a socket wrench, the other two I used a ratching wrench worked the best. Thanks for the video!!
Happens to many F150's, happened to my 2013 F150. Now your blend door is stuck open, I zip tied mine closed.
Dad just called me with this problem; good God that is a "shutter" like no other!
Haha, yeah it tries to shake the truck apart.
Great help full video exactly same problem and same piece come out thanks for your help
It's the gear for the air recirculating door. As long as you don't use the recirculating it should be fine
2013 FX2 here on a drive back from Sunny SD and this harsh vibrating came on. I’m convince I’m going to have to get in there and handle some business.
Same thing on mine....Going to pull it apart today. 2013 F150 EcoBoost. Oh I also have those Craftsmen Nextec tools too...
I've had that Craftsman going on 15 years now. No problems. It's a great little dash/trim tool.
Yup, part of the fresh air blend flap mechanism. I had it fail on my 2013 platinum. I eventually had no fresh air blend operation at all
Same issue same part found!
Where's the recall Ford?
So this just happened on my 2013 F-150. Looks like I will do the same trick. Did you ever find out where the piece originated Syed from?
yea u have to pull the dash then the evap housing for the fresh air inlet housing the actuator at times will get stuck and when u press the recirc it ends up breaking the housing and that rubber piece will fall in the blower motor... ive done it without removing the evap housing and just the dash but its a lil bit tricky to get your hand back there with a small ratchet and socket but it can be done so u dont have to discharge the a/c and remove the heater hoses and a/c lines
Right on. The exact same thing happened to me. Thanks for showing me how to fix it.
Happy to help!
I had the exact same thing happen , and the same exact little nub in it . Wth is it ? IDK but the blower ain't makin noise anymore ! TY
Thank you bro I had the same problem and I solved it thanks to you
Thanks . Just like everyone else mine just went last week when I hit a bump. I also have noticed when my controls are switched off I still have air blowing through the vents
Same exact problem. Found identical debris in the cage. That back screw is real bugger to remove.
Have the same issue with mine now. Have you figured out what the rubber piece is for? I’m assuming no issues since you just threw the piece away?
Hi Josh - Just watched the video. In it you asked if anyone knows what the little plug is that fell into your blower motor. It looks exactly like the plug that fell off my Blower control or blender assembly. Have 2014 F-150. Mechanic fished it out. Still have it. Hope it helps.
Same thing happened to my 2014 F-150 today. Guy at shop said it would take 9hrs to fix and cost 2200!
I have a 2011 Ford Expedition with the same noise from the front blower motor but there's no debris nor broken parts to be found. It starts normally but after 5-10 minutes makes the noise and slows down. What do you suggest?
Check for any wiring harnesses, brackets, or plugs in the area that could be coming in contact with the squirrel cage.
Same piece was in my blower fan , should be a recall issue just like the mpg i was told my ecoboost would get when bought new in 2013
I know exactly what that little part is.
Thanks. I was wondering what that piece is for. Just had to take one apart earlier today lol
What I found out , that is the recirculating knob that broke of that regulates your recirculating air for air conditioning
Did u find out what that plug plastic looking thing was?
Ford just brought a lot of folks together in the wrong way. lol. I’m still working on my 2013 King Ranch Sunroof, Front fender liners(carpet?), and generally just a constant life of check engine lights if I pass anyone. lol.
But let me get that cap outta there. Heard what I thought was a rock hitting the car on the highway. Next thing you know. Broottttt!
I’ve got PTSD. I was like oh shit! A warthog over head! lol
CAS Missions are terrifying even when you aren’t the target.
AC and heat work fine. My understanding is it’s the knob for the recirculation door that breaks
I had the same issue and repaired it in the same way. thanks for the heads up. Have you had any issues from the part falling out?
Thanks!! I had the same problem! you saved me a lot of time!!
Great to hear!
Can someone let me know what they used to get the back bolt off. That’s the only thing giving us a problem.
8mm ratcheting 🔧 for the third one you can do it with a 1/4 quarter inch ratchet and 8mmsocket but it's much easier with the wrench
From another video viewers said it was part of the recirc door
Have the same issue thanks for the video..
