Add me to the list of 2013 F150 owners that found exactly what you did! Thx so much. Took me an hour and now the fan is quiet again. Saved me some $$$$. You’d think Ford would have discovered this design flaw by now.
Thank you so much for this. My advice to those of you that are going to do this process: Make sure you have an 8mm wrench and start removing the back screw first. Use small movements and be patient. It’ll come off! Then do the others. Best of luck!
Wow....Same problem with my blower. Terrible noise when turned on. I removed the blower motor and the same exact piece fell out. Installed everything back (took about 1/2 hour) and all is well. Your video saved the day! Thank you very much!
@@chrisculbertson6737It's the actuation hub from the recirculation air door. You will get A?C with it broken but you will not get recirculating air, which keeps the cabin cooler by reusing already chilled air. There is a video on YT by Motors and Mischief on how to replace the door without taking the entire dashboard apart,. If anyone tries this, please post the results! Thanks.
I removed that same part a couple of years ago; Maybe that’s why I don’t get cold temps right off the start for a good while in this hot Texas heat; I do notice that it does get a lil cooler by lowering the speed tho but not straight cold; but now I can target the possible reason
Same issue out on vacation. Pulled the fan with a crecent wrench out at the lake. Same plastic bit living in the fan. Thank you for saving us from 100 degree weather in the ride home. Much appreciated.
This is exactly what happened to my Mom’s F-150. Thank you so much for posting this video. It was a great help. Thanks again for saving us hundreds of dollars at the dealership service department.
Exact same issue for me. Same part broke off. I believe its been off for a few years now. I have no idea what it goes to as there is no issues with my vents or blends that I have ever noticed. What I thought was going to be a huge cost was just my own time and tools. Your video has helped me and apparently several others from the comments. Thank you very much! Side note, someone needs to find and beat the engineer about the head and shoulders for the designing of the three screws with one all the way in the back and about an inch play for a little box wrench and nothing more.
I had the same part break and fall into the fan this morning. Thanks to you it was a 20 minute fix. I was dreading spending hours in 15 below weather this morning.
I have a 2011 F150 and my A/C was making the same noise and I pulled the fan and the exact same piece was found. Thank you for the video, saved me from ordering a new fan!
Thanks for the video. Just found the same piece in my 2014. I bet it does have to do with the blend door. I always have kept mine on recirculate, but over the last couple of months driving I questioned whether it was working because I shouldn't be smelling things from outside while driving down the highway, i.e. a diesel truck in front. Thanks again to FOMOCO for such a high quality job!
I watched your vid because of the racket coming from under my dash when I turned up the fan on the ac. Thanks to your vid, I pulled the blower motor before buying a new one. I had the same little damaged plastic piece fall out. I appreciate the heads-up. Blower motor works just fine. Thank you.
I had the same noise and thankfully came across your video and it saved me time and money. My blower assembly is now back to being operational. Many thanks !
Thanks so much for the video! Had same noise with my 2014 and found the issue was the exact same broken off piece you found. Fixed the issue. Gonna have neck and back pain for weeks now, dumbest location to put that.
Thanks for the video. Heard a "clunk" the other day and then the dash started shaking like the entire cab was going to disintegrate. Like many other comments here, I found the exact same broken part in the hamster cage.
Thank you! When you first started that and turned it on, i thought that's exactly what's wrong with mine. Hopefully that's all that's going on with it.
I work for a ford parts department and someone asked the same question with that broken piece inside. That broken part is for one of the blend door actuator for inside or outside air if you guys are still wondering.
It makes the door inoperable. Most likely to be in the outside air position so your AC will not cool very well on a hot summer day. The real fix is an all day job. I just wedged the door on mine in the recirculate position and glued in place.
My 2012 f150 all the sudden started making this loud humming noise coming from the passenger side and I followed this instructional video and was able to fix it. I discovered a plastic wrapper from my wife’s cigarette pack had gotten sucked up in the fan. I removed it , replaced the fan and bingo , problem fixed. Just to give a lil heads up, that one screw furtherest towards the front is a pain in the butt!!! I used a short 8mm socket to a swivel connector to about a 3” extension to 1/4” ratchet. Good luck
⚒️Don’t forget to put a screw or some kind of wedge on the vent door so it stays on circulation always and you don’t get the smoke from other trucks. I went with a screw and it worked great.
Just did it and it’s exactly what happened. Everyone seems to say it isn’t necessary to replace it so I’ll call it good to go. Pain in the butt but not that big a deal. I just used a 8mm wrench- slow and steady. Thanks
you know? I was thinking acorn or some other squirrel related item but it was the same exact broken piece. When coming across this video and hearing that EXACT same noise I was like no doubt it has to be the same problem. Not like the assembly is in an area that is comfortable to get at by any stretch but it is manageable. Thankfully it is only 3 screws and one plug. BAM. Thank you very much for sharing this :)
I just got my fan off after a tool run, you will need a small ratchet wrench. What shocks me is I have the same exact piece of plastic in my fan, exact. Thanks a ton for the video much appreciated.
Joseph, thanks for the vid. Fan started making nose. Came home and pulled up your vid, along with 3 others, and sure enough found the very same piece off of some blend door actuator. I have both heat and a/c and that's what matters. Thanks again.

Great video, I actually figured out how to change the blend door where that piece came from without removing the dash. Just the airbag, glove box, and fan. Now that I know how to do it, probably a 4 hour fix instead of the 10+ hours Ford quoted me. What a crazy Ford problem. Again, nice video.

Just had the same problem and this video explained the fix and cause, exactly. I found, directly inside the hole there is a door that swivels up and down. Thank for the video, definitely took the guess work out of it. Recommend taking the back, pita, screw out first, then the second back one, and then the front one. I have a 02 f150 and on my blower there is a male side connector mounted on lower body of blower motor. I took it off thinking my blower was bad. Now I can't figure out how it secures to it. The top has like a black plastic arrow looking black piece. Any idea how it snaps on to stay on so It does not just dangle.

where is the blending door? I need to keep in recirculating mode also. Thanks
Can you make a video or send a link to how you learn to screw the blending door open?
Search “2014 Ford F-150 air recirculating issue” he shows you exactly where to look and where to put the screw to hold the door in place. Took me 30 minutes max and you’ll want someone to help hold the door in place while you drill the screw.
