She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until courts forced her to do so. She imprisoned parents for truancy. She got donations from Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein. She kept people beyond their sentences and used them as cheap labor for California and she fought to keep cash bail system in place.
I'm all for people showcasing their heritage, I'm Scottish and proud of it. It's only a problem when people use it to win votes as that smacks of racism. Politicians should ask to be voted for by their policies not because of their heritage or gender. I'm very aware of these things as I was brought up to ignore what colour or sex someone is but I see that American's love to identify themselves as a certain race, colour or gender when really they should look past all that stuff.
I agree with you completely that one shouldn’t vote for a candidate just because if their race or gender, that would be irrational. I’ve actually heard a lot of people from outside the United States share the same sentiment about feeling that Americans focus too much on race, heritage, etc. I would respond to that by saying that our own unique history and background, while not comprising all of our identity, makes up a significant part of it. Being an Indian influences much of my life and so if I were to push that part aside, I would effectively be covering up a significant portion of my identity. I think other minorities feel this same way too. In regards to politics, I’m not gonna lie and say that Kamala Harris being Indian has no impact on my support for her, it definitely does. The important point though is that I support her holistically as a candidate. With her, I see a candidate who is going to push for issues that Americans have been pushing on for so long (gun control, immigration, freedom of health care, etc.), and she also happens to be Indian, so I personally know that she will not push my community to the side, but make sure the issues that are important to us will be given the same significance as other issues relating to all communities. I think her showcasing her Indian heritage like this (because it’s not talked about a lot) is a great way to show the south Asian community that she is with us. Thanks for your comment, I really do think dialogues like these are important in truly understanding each other across the political boundary.

...and we can also think about connecting to their qualifications and ability to do the job well, which is something that a bunch of people didn't seem to think was as important in 2016 as much as how much they "liked" the candidates. It's time to be smarter about how we choose our elected officials.
@Rahul Shanbhogue even if there are cases of voter fraud it wouldn’t make a difference. Do you know why? Because you can’t fake electoral college votes since these people who take part in the process are specifically picked by the government. So even if trump got more votes from the public than Biden, it wouldn’t make a difference because electoral votes over power the popular vote. Hence why Trump won in 2016, even though he didn’t win the popular vote.
@Rahul Shanbhogue LOL crisis? Trump & Co have filed about 15 cases with the courts about this "crisis of voter fraud" every single one has been thrown out. It was made by two very strong women who can find positive things to say. I bet that dosa was delicious.
Indeed it is
That’s what us Jamaicans say too, “You know Kamala’s Jamaican, right?”
Her father is Jamaican. Her mother is South Asian. She was born in United States of America. So she was never a Jamaican citizen. Her mother raised her and her sisters as African American. But you, her father and Kamala do share the honor of being of African descent; but Jamaica is a country not a race and Kamala's country of origin is United States of America. If it was Jamaica, she would be disqualified as Vice President nominee.

It’s really awesome that you’re showcasing your Indian heritage like this!
