Our baby! Glad to see it's popped up on here finally. Remember, drop me a line if you ever want to know anything specific about it, or parts fitted etc. Hope it behaves for you!
Cheers Danny, glad to have you on board. An M50, M52, M54 swap is definitely in the back of our minds. We're doing an M52 swapped E30 currently though so we'd want it to be a bit different to that. Another thought was a supercharger. 🤔 Or, keep it NA and just do some tweaks, it's a fun car even with just 140hp. Which 6 pot do you have?
I really miss my TI, it is out of action as of a week ago, the price to fix is more then I brought the car for, I just want another one nothing else makes me feel the things my TI does. I really miss my car, I love these things so much. Thank you.
Congrats on the new car, and welcome to the hellrot 318ti club! There are loads and loads of big and small mods to do to this little machine, so enough to do I'd say :)
Thank you Rein! It should be a fun little project this ti. There are a few maintenance jobs to take care of before we can get stuck into the mods though. Let us know which top mods you'd recommend! 😃
Thank you! It should be a fun little project to have a laugh with. I'm glad I finally influenced the old man to dip his toe into the world of cheap fun BMW's, hopefully neither of us will regret it! 😂
Looks like great project coming up. And with an expert on hand I'm guessing there won't be much to worry about and it will all turn out good in the end. Good luck! And looking forward to the updates.
Thanks Phil, should be a fun cheap project car for us to play with. Expert might be a strong word :D Although I have learned not to underestimate the old man's experience from his years of tinkering. Hopefully I will learn a trick or two along the way.
Great choice! Apparently 150kg's lighter than the coupe. Not getting up to temp will be the thermostat being stuck open, my mpg improved after changing mine. A few of the late 1999 compacts came with very snazzy interiors so keep an eye open for cars being broken for parts and you might get a full interior for yours. My old one had the sport cloth boa boa which is the best imo.
150kg, thats more than I thought! It's a fun little pocket rocket, hopefully we will make it even better with some choice mods. 😜 Great shout on the themostat, I bet you're right with that. Cheers!
Noiceee, same rear subframe with the E30. I just welded some serated tabs for camber and toe. Next plan is engine probably but i would like to do something about the boaty feel. The car has Bilstein B8 shocks which I don't know the health of them with red H&R lowering springs. It has stock arb's front and back. (M40B16 now). Maybe i should buy a D2 or a BC coilover first and then try chasing anything else. Love your videos. Greetings from Greece.
Thanks Marios, yeah the E36 Compact seems very similar to the E30 so far, in a good way. Quite excited to do some work on it and add some simple but fun mods. I remember my E30 318is in stock form was quite boaty, I'm expecting my E30 with uprated ARBs and HSD coilovers to feel night and day better than that but we will find out in good time. Until I drive mine, I can't 100% confirm to you that it's the solution, but I've got high expectations. 😄
@@SPANNERRASH Aha yeah! It has(I beleive?)stiffer M sport suspension as yours has.It does'nt have rear parking sensors and rear head rests though(no fitment slots for them even if I wanted to!)Mine was overcooling, the thermostat&housing (Behr) was only about £35,and quite an easy fix.175K on your M44 engine, that's impressive for the little Austrian made DOHC power unit!
Hi, I am also from New Zealand and I own a TI, I love these cars with a passion and nothing else I have driven has made me feel the way these cars do. I love the M44b19 and the way the car feels throughout our roads and corners, nothing else puts a smile on my face like it. The engine in these cars is incredibly reliable if you get one which has been worked on by a trusted mechanic or a passionate owner. If you get one please look after them, I am trying to buy another right now and it is really hard to find one exactly how I want, these cars deserve an owner who will love them.
I really love mine. The m44 engine is a peach. I litterally said this afternoon " when you look back at this car in a car park you want to take a photo " :) Remember though it is an old car all of the usual things need checking, but they are quite durable. Good luck.
Hi, I had to dig out some pictures of the inside of the wheel. They are marked 8J x 17 IS 20 if that helps. They are fitted without spacers, and the car is on eBay coilovers. If you look at later vids I have swapped onto other wheels, so I am looking at putting these one marketplace.
The attention on the editing is so nice 👍 Great video !
Awesome, glad you appreciated it. We had fun putting some extra effort in on the filming/editing this time. More to come! 😃

Thanks so much Gareth, it's certainly been a while coming. I do hope you're keeping well. 😁
Pro filming and editing. Great video as always 👍
Thanks Peter, had fun shooting this vid. We should get out of the workshop more often. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ive got one of these with a 6 pot in it. Very fun and capable cars for not a lot of money. Will be following

Lovely little car, subscribed to see more of it
Thanks for the sub! I'm hoping to do quite a bit this year.
I do like a compact. i stuck throttle bodies on my m44 without touching the ecu and it ran and sounded great
I bet that sounds awesome, that's something we may look into :D

Thanks for sharing. But if you do it yourself unless the body has rotted to nothing or it was an accident there is nothing you can't fix. Good luck.

Nice location with the tower- whereabouts is this?
It's the Sir Tatton Sykes Monument, Sledmere. North of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkhire. It is a really great vantage point.
@@SPANNERRASH Ah - I'm a Hull lad but never seen it before!
@@popitastic Nice! It's not very well known but a nice stop off if you're passing near by. Some good roads around the area.
I would love to have a ti with a n52 and dct.
It is a lovely car to drive, more power is always better, but the M44 engine is quite entertaining.
👌 good one! Great cars to work on. Fun and affordable . I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming for it👍
Hopefully we'll have some good cheap fun with this compact. Cheers pal! 😃
@SPANNERRASH I'll be tuning in for sure. Like father like son,you like red!

@SPANNERRASH BMW does have some good-looking reds. I had a zhp e46 msport in Imola red.

Thanks Neil, looking forward to getting stuck into this 318is.
£995? future classic for certain. nicely edited footage.
Cheers! I think they will be too 😃
Great find! I have two Compacts of my own. 750£ Is my guess.

I have a 1998 318ti automatic (GM) transmission with M front bumper style, same as yours.

hey mate im from new zealand and theres quite a few of them in my area for 3k would u recommend it ?
We are really enjoying driving it, and considering it's mileage it has been amazingly reliable. We have a lot to do, but would definitely buy another.
