    I've always loved the look of these weird "mini trunk" BMW's. The power to weight ratio must be pretty darn good.

    • @brantisonfire
      @brantisonfire 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +paradoxdesigns It was actually the lightest of the 3-series BMWs. I think with the manual they weighed about 2700-2800 lbs. If we would have had the option of the 323ti, like Europe got, it would have been so much better.

    Gotta love the R&D they put into it. Some tuner even fitted the first gen Z3 with a BMW V12 from the 750i during the 1990s. The price on this package makes no economic sense but at least they offered everything separate.

    Never heard of it and it makes sense they didn't give it more hp as I think the car's rear suspension is carried over from the E30 3 series. Similar power to the E46 330's power plant too

    £70k holy crap you could have bought a new 318ti and a new M3 for less than that! :-s Crazy money!
    That said, without that OTT body kit this would have been one awesome little sleeper hatch, 240hp would have whipped just about anything else that size/class in the mid 90s.

    This is real tuning: 48k in upgrades on a 22k car. Instead of buying a new Porsche.
    I'll shake hands to anyone who bought this beast new. Decals apart.

    • @eustahijelifetips
      @eustahijelifetips 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      this shit makes no sense, spending two times as much money on mods on a car that cost 22k is nonsense, thats not tuning, but only a big flex, even then, the compact was and still is laughed at, its a waste of money, that was porsche money back in the day

  • @BlagoP
    @BlagoP 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This was a lot of money, but it was faster than an M3, probably handled better as well. And was as fast as a 911 Carrera at the time, but cheaper.

    • @Juanknes
      @Juanknes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    0.60 in 6 seconds with a quarter mile time of 13.7 seconds at 97 MPH. This somehow doesn't compute, you'd have to be a full second faster 0-60 in order to get 13.7 in the quarter usually.

    • @MPasc403
      @MPasc403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be gearing and slow shifting. If it has an M3 trans with a 3.45 diff, it’ll need a shift into 3rd to reach 60, adding to the 0-60.

    Your average V6 family sedan (Camry, Accord, Altima) has 275 horsepower now-a-days and can be had for like $25k, This BMW would be $85000 in today money!
    To put that into perspective, you can buy a new Corvette Z06 Convertible with 650HP and have $ left over!

    Firstly, it’s a demo car. Nobody was putting all those parts on cuz u didn’t need all of them. It’s just proof of concept as no one is buying the four to put a six in when they could just buy a six! Also, For the life of me, I can’t think of a more useless expenditure than a carbon fiber valve cover!

      +Kevin Moondust yeah I bought my 318ti based solely on the fact I loved the look of it. I knew nothing about the car or how great it was, I just coudn't resist the aesthetic. Now I love this car so much that when it dies I will replace it with the same again...forever!

      Chanel Oberlin 2016 F30 330i xdrive starts at 48k here in France. And at the moment it's auto and 4WD only if you want a 330i ... and it's a 4 banger ... i'd rather have an old e36 if fun is the priority

    • @xebek
      @xebek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you think power was the priority, you're sorely lost. Why is hp/dollar the only variable to you?
