1) Making the front axle wider made the 79 more stable. 2) It's only over loaded 70 series which have vague steering. 3) I drive a 79 series every day and it's 100% offroad. It's my work vehicle. My work colleagues drive the same and we have never found a problem or a noticeable difference in the handling and control of the vehicle due to different axle widths. We've actually discussed this supposed issue and we can't even replicate what people are saying is happening. 4) Building a grand edifice Taj Mahal puts plenty of weight on the rear end and makes the steering vague. This is not cause by a narrower rear track.
