  • In this video, we install an additional 12v socket AKA Auxillary PowerPoint to the rear of the van. This will be my secondary charging source if there is low to no sunlight available. This will allow me to generate an additional 240W for charging and at max efficiency a total of 540W with my solar panels! Amazing!

    For those of us trying to learn something but do not yet have a Transit in our driveway to get a better look at what you are doing ; A SUGGESTION if you were to film something like this again : shine a light into that back area where the plug is , as looking in that cavity I have no idea exactly what was back there , and maybe when dealing with a dark cavity , besides a light , have a pointer stick . I have learnt a lot from your previous videos , but this one I found tough to follow.

    Why this plug doesn’t come installed from the factory is beyond me. Add this to the list of quirks with the Transit. You can see how this plug could be useful for vans with fridges or people who transport live animals and need a fan. I’ll update everyone on the actual watts Im getting in a future electrical video. Thanks 🙏

      I'm thinking it depends on the build package(s) whether or not it's there. My 2018 has one but I've seen posts on FB about other 2018s that didn't.

    • @RichBuilt
      @RichBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HikerBiker That's interesting. Typically the main wiring harness has all the plugs and the ancillary wiring is what is either included or not. Best to look and see if you have the plug prior to ordering the secondary harness and socket. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • @vmalloc
      @vmalloc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any idea of how much power you can draw from it? I'm not seeing any power specs, so I can't figure out how many watts you can use with it.

    • @RichBuilt
      @RichBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vmalloc its dependent on your car/fuse rating. Ford Transit has it for a 20amps (20*12v = 240w). My solar charger only inputs 100w from the plug, but I will utilize a 12v inverter to bump that up to the AC charging brick capacity of 400w.

    Thanks for the video! I just got this as a work van and want to charge my tool batteries from there. Are you able to install a 120 plug receptacle instead of the 12V?

    • @RichBuilt
      @RichBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure if can, but a great alternative would be to get a 12v intverter rated at 500W or whatever your needs are. See link below. amzn.to/38Ca63v

    Can't find the wire harness anywhere. My local dealer says they can order it but there is no estimated date for it to ship. Link in the description says discontinued. Tried one online parts place but they said they couldn't get it and canceled and refunded my order. I might have to resort to junkyards soon.

    • @RichBuilt
      @RichBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think a whole lot of 2020 models that were supposed to come with this from the factory didn't so they took all the stock to make good on people's orders. Try searching under a different year.

      Try searching for the just the part number online. Other distributers will likely carry it. Also try searching under previous model years. They are likely to be a carry over harness.
