    The diamond analogy is so stupid. Diamonds are borderline useless, water is essential for life. The finance boys are INSANELY out of touch. Now we have these vultures casually babbling on about exploiting water. This is some truly disgusting stuff.... and of course there's a jackass in a suit telling you it's good.

      Decisions made by national leaderships around the world, secondary or tertiary effects and consequences from man made choices from 100 years ago to 100 days ago ... Things only going from bad to worse .. no matter which way you want to look at it .. I believe we have a solid few generations, or maybe 1-150 years to go before some serious global events which wont leave humankind in the same state ... Thats just my two cents tho

    Water was privatised here in the UK back in the 80s. Laws had to be brought in to make it illegal for water to be turned off in homes, to make sure its clean etc. and with Ofwat who regulates water blocking price increases, it has changed ownership every few years in some regions because its costly to run. We have laws that protect water supply for the most part but most countries are unlikely to have the safeguards we have, privatisation is bad without strict government oversight.

    But im thinking that's not a good idea , were gonna be flipping on our weather last year of el nina , now were gonna turn into a desert but there be less hurricanes , and maybe colder winter days , rain was 2 months late this year , next year it will be even later before it starts .

    Water doesnt just fall from the sky anymore. Our industries require it for everything, even if the product isnt really by any standard necessary. Livestock farming is bad, almonds in monoculture are bad and so on - they cause pollution, resistances against antibiotics, degrade the biosphere, cause emissions (cows and methane, google it) and so on. So yes, at least pay for the water. Looking back at how we treat water, if it doesnt hurt, we heavily pollute it. So yes, there is a price tag. It includes a fee for its recovery, latest when there isnt enough anymore without investing in its recovery. Of course normal people should not be affected in the sense that they should have favourable and sustainable as well as stable water prices.

    • @timothytripp4594
      @timothytripp4594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @timothytripp4594 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And it could also be filtered to make sure it is safe enough to drink and use for cooking or cleaning or feeding livestock or watering crops but that all comes at a price so therefore water is not free even if you have a well that you get the water from you pay for the pipes the pump and the electricity or power supply to get the water to the tank which you pay for also and the dwelling of the well so unless you have running water on your property or well water you will have to pay more for it just like me if I go to the big city and I want something to drink I have to pay to get it because more than likely no one's going to offer to give me theirs to drink

    Another question I have with the California situation is how do they know that the farmers are sticking to their quota? Are they going to have water police driving around and monitoring wells? Who owns and controls the wells and the infrastructure to operate them? This creates a whole new question of trust. We have to have some enforcement in order for this to work otherwise it really has no merit. You’re working off the trust of people. And we know that that’s not possible

    The question is though how can you trade a commodity in which you’re not trading a physical commodity? For example if you trade corn or corn futures you in some cases may hold that physical product. If you’re only hedging against or betting against water but you don’t hold that physical product under any control you technically have no right to it. The bigger question is how do you enforce it? If you own a certain amount of water but don’t actually physically hold onto that product how can you enforce somebody else not to take it? You can’t.
