Staying private seems like a better option than public companies for the employees because it allows them to provide better benefits versus worrying about the bottom line and what the shareholders think. This is why they were voted top 100 company to work for.

    • @rickybobby7276

Not just private but zero leverage and no owners that don’t work in the company. Even being sold to private equity the company is run down to shit and employees are smart to leave because all the perks that allowed them to grow are over with. Even users of the product should seek to leave when one of these things happen.

Take a closer look at cooperatives, there are good examples around the world. In cooperatives, it's about the member-value and not the shareholder-value, and everyone can get a member with a right to vote.

I've invested through Fidelity since the early 1990's...I remember Peter Lynch being their spokesperson on all marketing materials. I have found them to treat the "little guy" well over the years, allowing them to become one of the "big guys". They promoted investing in a true and steady fashion...focusing on the long term, rather than jumping on the latest temporary trend or newest financial gimmick.

In the context of Kaiser Steel in the 1980s, I don't think it was competition from China that was the issue - it was Japan. China did not come onto the steel export scene significantly until the 2000s, even having a trade DEFICIT with the United States in steel until the mid to late 2000s.

Some pointed out that at 0:52, China couldn't be the reason the steel industry was facing pressure in the 70s. I was skeptical when researching too. But after reading the report published by the U.S. government at the time (books.google.com/books?id=lLG-RgUMYFUC ) , China was the 5th largest steel producer. But since it was coming out of the cultural revolution, the growth of the steel industry was faster than any other country, at an incredibly cheap cost. That is what created competitive pressure.

Another amazing video!! Make one on Goldman Sachs, I doubt there’s a financial firm that’s been more involved in drama, power and finance than them. Although it would probably require more than one episode due to their rich and eventful history.

@A Z Wouldn’t be a mistake to make about them either, especially from the era of JP Morgan himself! But I think Goldman has one up on JPM in terms of at least history and drama. There are books written about how Goldman ”came to rule the world” and this channel has already tapped on Jamie Dimon and thus, JPM partially.

To my understanding this just proves how much we need an edge as investors because playing the market like everyone else just isn’t good enough. I've been quite unsure about investing in this current market and at the same time I feel it's the best time to get started on the market, what are your thoughts?

Since the crash, I've been in the red. I’m playing the long term game, so I'm not too worried but Jim Cramer mentioned there are still a lot of great opportunities, though stocks has been down a lot. I also heard news of a guy that made $250k from about $110k since the crash and I would really look to know how to go about this.

After researching the history of great assets such as real estate, dividend-paying stocks, gold, oil, and other commodities, Ive come to the conclusion that most excellent assets never come down to the price you want to acquire them at. Simply get the ones you can afford right now.

Fidelity is America's 10th largest private company. It's 2021 total revenues were $21 billion. America's 9th largest private company is C and S Wholesale Grocers located in the tiny state of New Hampshire. I've lived in New Hampshire for 34 years and yet I had never heard of this company until I googled a list of America's largest private companies just now. This is because (unlike Fidelity) they do not advertise. The Vanguard Group of mutual funds manages even more money than Fidelity and they are essentially a nonprofit- a true "mutual" company owned by their customer/ investors.

I'll compliment you on all the work you did with this, but I think there's a fair bit that's been left out. For instance how has the business changed under Abigail Johnson? Private investments they've made such as their investment into SpaceX. I think going into the Qualitative vs Quantitative shift of management, and also going further into the way they dodged the 2008 crash by not going into banking. 401k management is more than half of their assets too. Seems like maybe this could have been part 1 of a 2 or 3 part series.
