Was too tired to post anything that really reflected my thoughts last night so i will do it now.
Aside from the talented artists and devs who optimised the game let me focus on the actual game play and RPG. The companion system has been done before in RPG games and I love it, especially when the game is single player but as mentioned in my review these companions are nothing but extra spells hidden behind a clunky delivery system. They can't die and accessing the combo spells is a joke. Companions should feel like other players, they should be mortal, they should make a difference, you should value them and get attached to them. Starfield made the same mistake, they made them donkeys for carrying your shit and Dragon Age just made them extra spells for you, zero immersion, in fact I ended up hating the lot of them.
The dialog options are horrible as is the writing and that is because they hired people more interested in pushing "the message" than making great character arcs and realistic banter between companions. Everyone is friendly, sympathetic, understanding, kind, generous no matter how much you try to piss them off, it's nuts, the entire game is treading on egg shells for fear of doing anything offensive while at the same time being highly offensive to many people.
The combat has some amazing abilities that look and sound awesome, even abilities we have all seen before are brilliantly done such as frost nova and slow down time. Aiming is good, I never used lock on once, I love playing free in combat and this game let me do that. The problem is they made a poor interface, focused the combat around spammy light and heavy attacks as your mana runs out way too fast early game and made accessing and remembering your constantly changing team attacks very hard. They also designed the maps poorly, you know exactly when you are going to be attacked.
I am saddened more than angry as I know I would have loved a proper version of this game where the characters are more realistic and gritty, where the combat was less focused on spam and more on your abilities, where companions meant more than just an extra few spells for you and where the writing would immerse me in a huge world linear or not. I often felt that I was surrounded by political activists not fantasy characters in an RPG. A massive wasted opportunity and how anyone can say this game is good is beyond all comprehension, it has some good things which I reflected in my score but as a fantasy RPG it's a disgrace.

      Matt,
I was able to defeat the Ogre by not moving. I just stood there and either dodged or blocked while my INVULNERABLE teammates did the job. It was completely challengeless, a combat like this can NEVER be good if you CANT LOOSE, I played it on the hardest difficulty too but I can cheese any situation by...just moving since my teammates are invulnerable. Such a combat is not salvagable, its game journalist design in that you cant die.
You cant even jump off a cliff and die, you cant even fall off those things you balance on - nothing!
I agree it looks good but whats the point if you can never be defeated?

Veilguard is, indeed, an action-adventure with RPG elements, just as you said. BioWare made that choice, and they have every right to do so. Dragon Age now feels more like Mass Effect, which I personally love! This decision opens it up to fans of games like God of War, The Last of Us, and the Star Wars Jedi series. Hardcore RPG players are disappointed, which is understandable. But no one has the right to judge BioWare for their style and choices. Art is individual, and if you don’t like the game, just let it go. There’s no reason to troll online and keep bothering those of us who do love the game. Let us have our fun, and go play what you enjoy.
I’m lucky enough to love both complex RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 and action RPGs like Dark Souls, along with entertaining and polished mainstream games like God of War or Veilguard. I’m 30 hours in and loving every minute of it. Sure, the game isn’t particularly challenging and it does guide you along quite a bit. Plus, it’s geared toward younger players, which I think is great. And if I’m ever in the mood for blood, gore, and complexity, there are plenty of games that focus on that.
I get the criticism and disappointment, really. But please stop trolling and let those of us who enjoy it have our fun. I’m extremely happy with it and especially thrilled that BioWare didn’t make this game dependent on multiplayer, monetization, or season passes. Plus, Veilguard is highly polished and bug-free-a rarity these days. Thank you, BioWare, for this fantastic game! I’m already looking forward to Mass Effect 5 and hope you stay true to your style.

  • @7Rendar
    @7Rendar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Mass Effect 2, the game most people (not me) agree is the best Mass Effect, really started Bioware down the path of the "walk along this empty corridor and you're completely safe, but as soon as you enter a room and you see conveniently placed cover dotted around - prepare for a fight"-trope. Completely immersion-breaking console damaged crap. In ME1 sometimes you had to fight out in in open or in tight corridors without cover - as it should be because sometimes life is hard. Andromeda actually managed to pull the gameplay back towards good, but is seriously flawed in many other ways instead (2D characters, my face is tired etc).
I'm sorry to say that Bioware peaked with ME1 and DA1 IMO. New exciting worlds to explore. Many well written characters and story. Lots of impactful options for gear and skills for both you and your companions. All this made those games feel like proper epic RPGs. Sadly, Bioware will never top those games again.

I could only ever describe the art style of this game as fake pre-rendered mobile game ad. Same with UI. All the left extremist pandering aside it has even bigger problems. This is one of the most sterile, uninteresting, generic fantasy worlds that has ever existed. And it's a setting for a story that wouldn't even pass as a fanfic to a real deal. It's very very sad. 25 years ago it was 1999. 25 years before that it was 1974. There was a total ideological shift between 1974 and 1999. In 1974 the boomers were objectively racist in the majority. Over those 25 years, Gen X stopped hanging out with their racist friends and the baby boomers stopped being vocally racist for the most part. White people stopped saying the N-word in public by 1999, when it was very common in 1974. By 1999, gay people had come out of the closet, and just a few years later Queer Eye for a Straight Guy would cause Gen X and the boomers to start accepting gay people in the mainstream.
Culture changes, man. Gen X and the baby boomers are the 2 most culturally similar generations in American history, and there was still a massive ideological shift for those generations.
What you’re describing is called “growing up,” and as you get older you’ll start to figure that out. Culture always changes. Think about it this way: when dragon age origins was gay as fuck, nobody cared. When dragon age 2 was gay as fuck, nobody cared. When dragon age inquisition was the most trans inclusive/gay inclusive AAA game ever made, nobody cared. Now culture has changed over the last 10 years, and now people are throwing anti-gay tantrums and whining about wanting games to be their safe space.

Forcing political agendas and pressuring players to adapt to certain moral views takes away from the enjoyment and genuine immersion that gaming should offer. I play games to escape and experience new worlds, not to have my worldview questioned or policed. If this kind of one sided moral imposition isn’t a form of bigotry, then what is? Games should be about the story, the challenge, and the experience, not pushing personal ideologies on players.

Blackrock and Vanguard are two of the largest institutional investors in Electronic Arts (EA).Their stakes in EA are significant and represent a substantial portion of the company's ownership.
Here's a breakdown of their current holdings: Blackrock: As of June 2024, Blackrock owns approximately 10.2% of EA's outstanding shares. This makes them one of the largest shareholders of the company. Vanguard also holds a significant stake in EA, owning approximately 8.4% of the company's shares as of June 2024.

Bioware a studio that once made you cry for the death of an alien becuase the time you spent with them made them feel like family is now the studio that makes humans, dwarfs and elves feel like robots with no social skills or character beyond trying to be the most individualistic person in the room.
Hot tip for you Bioware, If you are intresting people will want to ask things about you, Nobody want's you to talk about yourself non fucking stop for hours on end, or know your sexuality or pronouns. If anyone gave a shit they would ask. Characters are so one dimensional they might aswell be straight lines.
Did anyone at Bioware actually play the previous games in the series? or any of the games from before Andromeda, We had Inclusivity and for almost everyone it felt like it really fit into those games becuase it wasn't applied with a fucking sledgehammer then smeared into the cracks with a oversized tube of glow in the dark lipstick.
And what the fucks up with none of the characters having any meaningful conflict or internal contradictions, You could ask me right here and now what the main themes of conflict almost any companion character had in thier respective games, They even have quotes that sum these up pretty perfectly.
Jack : “I figure, every time someone dies and it’s not me, my chances of survival go up.” - Loneliness and trust issues
Garrus : "It's So Much Easier To See The World In Black And White. Gray? I Don't Know What To Do With Gray." - Conflicting moralities
Allister : What? Lead? Me? No, no, no. No leading. Bad things happen when I lead. We get lost, people die, and the next thing you know I’m stranded somewhere without any pants. - Doesn't trust himself, confidence issues disguised as humor.
These are just quotes and they speak volumes more than the bollucks we get in Veilguard.
Hell even the antagonists of previous bioware games
Malak : Still... still spouting the wisdom of the Jedi, I see. Maybe there is more truth in their code than I ever believed. I... I cannot help but wonder, Revan. What would have happened had our positions been reversed? What if fate had decreed I would be captured by the Jedi? Could I have returned to the light, as you did? If you had not led me down the dark path in the first place, what destiny would I have found? - Always held himself as second best, Too far gone to save but not far enough to not see that thing's might have been differnt.
I feel like the whole writing team could have done with playing some of these games before having started drawing up the story and characters for Veilguard.
I would expect a better story from a cookie cutter MMO designed for teenagers than what we have here. There is no substance, Moral ambiguity or even atmosphere to think about beyond what's essentially a drivel being spouted non stop in the most self centered way possible.
What happened to the rebellious streak we used to love Bioware for? Where have all the good development staff gone? Why did they leave?
Is this the Future of Bioware you are aiming for? A future where is doesn't fucking exist?!

im about 25 hours in so far and cannot see what you are talking about.. I do not understand how this whole game is woke?? It hasnt forced sexual orientation into any of the dialogue, and has given me the option to romantically pursue whatever relationship I want. I do no see political correctness anywhere in the characters or story. The characters all have their own personalities, and I have enjoyed them all.
As far as the combat, I really like that you can specialise each character with differing skills to complement something you need as a utlity or something to take effect during battle.
Graphics are gorgeous! I mean, I really think this game is a visual feast! Loads of detail and atmosphere and variety. I love exploring nooks to find loot chests. There are some light puzzle elements as well. The whole thing feels cohesive and some of ther lighting is incredible.
So far, the only time I noticed LGBTQ+ was in the character creator. It gives you a choice. Didnt bother me. I made my characters and jumped in. The game didnt throw any of it in my face from that point onwards. Just on a side note; I have played games that really pissed me off with the polical correctness. 2 examples; Racthet and Clank Rift apart, where Clank has to remain with one arm because we have to accept that people and apparently robots can be disabled. The second was the Devil In Me, I was penalised for not pursuing a gay relationship at the begining and instead 'friend zoning'.
When comparing this to other dragon age games, it isnt nearly as dark or gruesome as origins. Not as moody as inquisition. But I have enjoyed the vibrancy of this outing. I like the overall design of the quests, being that I have found no fetch quests. Some decisions have had serious weight and have been paying for those decisions.
So this is my bottom line for this game, based on the time I have had with it. It is a well made, AAA game, sold for a fair price (I purchased it for $79 AUD for PS5), it looks and plays great, it doesnt crash or require any kind of patches, great characters, decent story, lots to see and do, and a proper adventure to save the world from the blight and the gods. I do not know if everyone is taking the piss with these kind of reviews? Or just taking gaming for granted? I dunno. This is definitely the front runner for GOTY for me this year and I do not give a damn about who agrees..
Edit: I have now completed the game after 75 hours. Yes, there was political correctness with identity politics that was short horned into the game. I do have a somewhat different feeling for the experience overall.
Positives: I think the story was good with Solas. It did tie the game's story together. I think the art style was great and I really enjoyed building and specializing my character. I can see replays. Combat was fluid, decent implementation of dodge and parry systems, nice effects on abilities and great overall animation. I thought all the characters were very likable, even though Bioware tried it's hardest to make me hate Taarsh.
Negatives: Never really felt like high stakes until the very end. Decisions I made didn't have any real consequences. Dialogue options didn't offer enough delivery variety and choices felt fake when outcomes were the same irrespective of choice.
Overall final thoughts: This game is not really Dragon Age. It is an action, adventure spinoff. Reminded me more of Final fantasy 16 style adventure game. While there is political correctness sprinkled through it, it thankfully didn't ruin the whole game for me. I think Bioware made a great game here, but I don't think this is the game people wanted, especially after BG3 has seen a huge following and this series is very D&D based at its core and this game strays completely from it. It was a fun time though and I can see myself giving this another run in the future. If I was to give it a score, as a Dragon Age game, it is 4/10, as a spin off action/adventure, 8/10. It is no longer my GOTY game. That may have to go to Astro Bot just because of the joy factor I had with it.

The writing wasn't great by any means. It's no legacy of kain. But it was fine. A lot of rpgs have cringe dialogue and this was about average. At least it was comprehensible. It didn't take me out of the gameplay. It could've done more to set the tone but it didn't ruin it. It seems like you just have some kind of personal hangup about it that has nothing to do with the quality of the writing

I have to disagree about the art style. I think it looks like trash. Not that “Pixar” is necessarily shit, but it really just doesn’t fit the content, the more adult themes… it doesn’t fit, and it feels weird and creepy… why do you want the characters you are getting to have smecks with each other to look like Pixar characters?? It’s really creepy to want that…

My Conspiracy theory: there are some people who hate games and gamers and they want to see them less, so in order to destroy the industry, they infiltrated every successful gaming company and they forced this kinda stuff to annoy gamers, gamers buy less games, gaming companies will bankrupt, less games, less gamers.
    Mission accomplished!

Past DA games had always had that "bullshit" as you call it, they just used to be more subtle about it. Wish it was still that way since I hate having my hand held in an rpg, but it's not a dealbreaker. As a fan it doesn't get in the way of love for the characters. I can play this game and then go back to Origins. Role-playing options are a good thing to have in a role-playing game. I don't feel like making a gender-questioning Rook at the moment, but I'm glad to have it as an option. When things aren't an option in an rpg, people get pissed! It's why I'm pissed off rn! All the hairs to choose from aren't to my taste!

I agree. Games should be detach from IRL problems and BS. Because it will ruin the game completely. For example. you ordered a juicy steak and very delicious but there's shit within the vicinity of where you are going to eat the steak. just like this game. It probably a good game but they put shit in there and ruined everything

I don't think that a game which is classed as AAA and has been in development for ten years is considered successful if it only attracts 70k players on it's release date. Plus I really don't think word of mouth is going to help this one regardless of the main stream shills trying to mislead players. My personal opinion is that Dragon Age: The Lecturing doesn't have legs and that the player count will start to drop off next week as people become bored of it, if not sooner.

I have put a few hours in to Dragon Age Veilguard now and it immediately hit me how this is a decent arpg but absolutely nothing like a Dragon Age game. The graphics are quite decent, ambient sound is fine and the rpg mechanics are typical of an arpg, but not a rpg typical of the depth of Dragon Age. But the writing is abysmal. It feels like a high school student wrote the interactions between characters. The banter between characters is so out of place in a fantasy game. These characters are battle-worn, most likely jaded, yet feels more like how teenagers would excitedly talk, and is completely immersion breaking. Especially as these are not new characters so we know how they have previously behaved. This is obviously for what Bioware describe as the "modern audience". All in all, as a standalone arpg, it is fine, as a Dragon Age game, utterly atrocious. It is like if Disney or Pixar did Dragon Age 🤷

Imagine being an artist or area designer working on these modern games, doing a great job in creating a beautiful world, only to see the pathetic writing and dialogue, with every character talking like a 2024 woke college student, instead of a person living in a medieval fantasy world. You'd feel like all your work and effort was completely wasted.

Good on you for calling this out. I refunded my Steam version without even playing it.
I am a gamer of near fifty years in the scene and I am pissed off of having real world ideology and politics pushed into what was once an amazing escape from the real world. Gaming used to be creativity, amazing worlds and characters, fun and interesting design and stories. Now it's mundane shite that also includes political nonsense to spread someone's ideology and worst still not even give you a choice.
Other games use Diversity. BG3 is an example but it was well written and not rammed down my throat. It gave the players choices ...it allowed you to avoid or interact with it.
Garbage like Veilguard is an invasion of personal privacy, it's brainwashing and is disgusting to force this into anyone, regardless of whether they like it or not.
If gaming continues this way then rest assured AAA games will vanish. Political themes and agendas should never cross into video games and also who did the writing for this game? It's an embarrassment.
How can you have Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack and then make such a poorly written game?...

    • @AoyagiAichou
      @AoyagiAichou 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

BG3 was well written when it comes to DEI? Mate, most people in that game are gay/bi. The world in BG3 has that typical American metropolitan diversity. You can't not interact with these things. I like the game, but let's not pretend it's not full of "modern audience" nonsense that makes observant players cringe at best.

Looks like the typical game with decent core gameplay but cursed by awful writing(regardless of the "political content"). I actually like the simpler, cartoonish artstyle, it would have looked even GREATER with some splatter, gorey elements. This style it's easy to read. Most enemies looks way too basic, instead.
A missed chance it seems. It's not my genre anyway, the last proper(non action)RPG i've played was Arcanum back in 2003.
