Was too tired to post anything that really reflected my thoughts last night so i will do it now. Aside from the talented artists and devs who optimised the game let me focus on the actual game play and RPG. The companion system has been done before in RPG games and I love it, especially when the game is single player but as mentioned in my review these companions are nothing but extra spells hidden behind a clunky delivery system. They can't die and accessing the combo spells is a joke. Companions should feel like other players, they should be mortal, they should make a difference, you should value them and get attached to them. Starfield made the same mistake, they made them donkeys for carrying your shit and Dragon Age just made them extra spells for you, zero immersion, in fact I ended up hating the lot of them. The dialog options are horrible as is the writing and that is because they hired people more interested in pushing "the message" than making great character arcs and realistic banter between companions. Everyone is friendly, sympathetic, understanding, kind, generous no matter how much you try to piss them off, it's nuts, the entire game is treading on egg shells for fear of doing anything offensive while at the same time being highly offensive to many people. The combat has some amazing abilities that look and sound awesome, even abilities we have all seen before are brilliantly done such as frost nova and slow down time. Aiming is good, I never used lock on once, I love playing free in combat and this game let me do that. The problem is they made a poor interface, focused the combat around spammy light and heavy attacks as your mana runs out way too fast early game and made accessing and remembering your constantly changing team attacks very hard. They also designed the maps poorly, you know exactly when you are going to be attacked. I am saddened more than angry as I know I would have loved a proper version of this game where the characters are more realistic and gritty, where the combat was less focused on spam and more on your abilities, where companions meant more than just an extra few spells for you and where the writing would immerse me in a huge world linear or not. I often felt that I was surrounded by political activists not fantasy characters in an RPG. A massive wasted opportunity and how anyone can say this game is good is beyond all comprehension, it has some good things which I reflected in my score but as a fantasy RPG it's a disgrace.
I replied to a few people saying the problem lies with these narrative development companies, they force studios too use them, I said such as sweet baby inc as a example, I then looked up who and if this game had a narrative development company attached, and there it was on Reddit Dragon age veilguard.....sweet baby inc ....your honor I rest my case.

Matt, I was able to defeat the Ogre by not moving. I just stood there and either dodged or blocked while my INVULNERABLE teammates did the job. It was completely challengeless, a combat like this can NEVER be good if you CANT LOOSE, I played it on the hardest difficulty too but I can cheese any situation by...just moving since my teammates are invulnerable. Such a combat is not salvagable, its game journalist design in that you cant die. You cant even jump off a cliff and die, you cant even fall off those things you balance on - nothing! I agree it looks good but whats the point if you can never be defeated?

Huge wasted opportunity here to make a spectacular RPG, they had the artists, sound and even the combat could have been worked to be great but nooooo they chose to pander to the tiny percentage of people that pretty much don't give a shit about video games and release this festering pile of RPG rubbish, no one wins, we all lose. At least they are the ones losing all the money.
The pandering in games is killing the writing and immersion (and player counts lmao). Sad to see games die, so many years of hard work from so many people.
DragQueen Age: Wokeguard On the other hand, im kinda glad theres no more amazing games every month like it used to be when we were kids. Cause now id never get to play them all. TBH I deliberately avoided every chat option to discuss gender, you can see this at 1:59 when the chat option opens, I also immediately skipped all scenes with it on display, am done with being preached too by these people. Also there are loads of vids out there discussing it all, I wanted to focus more on the tiny bits of the game that are decent and get the point across that this could have been a great game.
@B-26354 Spot on mate vanguard is another like Blackrock they are major shareholders in most big companies. Sickening what's happening. Most of the masses are truly blind to the real sinister motives behind it all
When this game was called Dreadwolf, its director was MArk Darrah, a Bioware veteran. After he left a trans person, Corinne Busche took his role. We can clearly see the results.
He returned for the development of THIS game, and he is actually very happy with the results. He is nuts too. He had even trashed Origins to make this game look better.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Every bit of dialogue in this game sounds like it's straight up from a SCOOBY Doo episode. Rooks response wheen should simply be replaced with 3 options. "Zoinks" "Jinkies" "I'm a trans individual who is started to feel safe in they / thems own skin" Nothing has weight to it. No as actions happen on screen. You are told about stuff you didn't do later on and then the companions simply forget about it.
I'm playing Mafia. 'Wasn't expecting to empty my Tommy Gun into Don Morello today. But, you know, it's one of those days. Paulie, let's go for smoothies.'
Main character is going to be transperplexual who has an identity crisis the whole game and preaches to the players constantly about the plight of the alphabet brigade. Oh and probably is afraid of guns because guns are bad, despite it just being a tool...
Expect nothing any more: Elder scrolls 6, GTA 6, whatever, expect nothing and not to buy. Wait and see if people say it's good , PEOPLE, not paid game reviewers.
There was a video about a young guy who grow up with Disney style “we are in a movie wink-wink” storytelling and was flabbergasted upon watching Lord of the rings where every single character took themselves seriously.
Hate the combat system. Hate when they try to make a mix of an RPG and action system geared towards the ultra casual. Making it mediocre. If you want to go action, go full devil may cry action. Don’t give us some half way BS. Or go full rpg with turn based or something. The gameplay with the combat system looks so generic and casual, it doesn’t interest me.
Feels like the only Dragon Age ever to have some tactical sense and need for strategy was the Origins. From there to here was only a downhill on the general gameplay and combat
Cant wait for the DLC where the Qunari have a story hour at the local library for the children of the village. And if you choose all the correct dialogue options the Qunari will trow a P Diddy party.
Bioware has repeated what theey said earlier. There won't be a dlc. They will have people of course patching bugs while the rest pivot to working on Mass Effect. It seems they don't have the people to make a dlc and also work on Mass Effect. No to repeat: No dlc for Veilguard.

The media's really trying to push Dragon Age: Veil Guard as a success, but honestly, the numbers don’t back it up. For some perspective, DA peaked around 70-80k players on Steam, while Skyrim, a game over a decade old, had over 200k at its peak. Even Starfield hit 300k, and both Starfield and DA had similar budgets, Starfield was around $200 million, and DA supposedly cost between $150-250 million.
From what I'm told, this game has your character being too nice and has no balls basically. Everyone in the game is too afraid to offend other people that they are all nice no matter what. Not sure how true it is, but every dialogue wheel option that I've seen in this game that's supposed to be "mean" or "assertive" always comes back pussy whipped

Writing seems to be the number one issue with any entertainment media in the past five years. So many talented people who put their heart and soul into a project, only to be completely wasted and shadowed by incompetent, woke, childish, braindead writers. I still feel that dragon age origins was a bit of a lightning in a bottle moment that they've not quite recaptured in any other version. But at least it did have a bar across the bottom and you could put whatever spells in the slots. So weird to remove such a simple but effective design.
@@Matthewjs33origins and Da2 is good bro. You might have to go back and play them and you’ll see why we are so pissed. I get 2 was rushed and hated on but it is very good writing and the villains are so good it makes you care about the ending.
This honestly points out the one part of woke ideology that pisses me off the most: they aren’t the only ones who made the game. There were actual talented developers who slaved away on a combat system, on level design, on stability and sound and this and that. Every little thing needs a crafting hand. Then, after all their sweat and tears and strain, the writing team steps in, paints it hot pink and glues a dildo on. If you speak out against this, you’ll be fired.
That’s probably exactly how it goes. A small set of talentless activists bullied themselves into these jobs and positions and basically damage everyone and everything. I do think however this wont go on much longer , most of the public are annoyed by them and companies are losing money
As usual youtube is being anti free speech again. I can't say anything negative about this topic because my comment is auto-deleted. I can open a ticket to valve support asking what i said was against the guidelines or whatever and they will reply that the ban was justified and close the ticket. No reasons given because there were none. Just having the wrong opinion is enough to get you banned on steam. Anyway, i agree and it happens to me too. I'm so sick of this BS. The only thing we can do is just not give them any money. The most annoying thing about the youtube delete bot and the valve support team is that they will never tell you what you said that was naughty. They won't even tell you they deleted your comment. i'd be careful. being banned, even parmently, across multiple steam forums can lead to a complete community suspension for weeks to months to years on end, and more and more of thiese soy developers and mods are taking power in spaces.
I tried to play this for myself and I could not stand it for more than 3 hours. The biggest sinner for me was the dialogue. It's so bad. It's like half the people are behaving as if they are talking to babies. It just gets on my nerves.
Unfortunately, after three hours you missed the window for a refund. Now you're stuck with a game you despise and EA and Bioware have your money and will count that as a success and approval even though it isn't.
I could only ever describe the art style of this game as fake pre-rendered mobile game ad. Same with UI. All the left extremist pandering aside it has even bigger problems. This is one of the most sterile, uninteresting, generic fantasy worlds that has ever existed. And it's a setting for a story that wouldn't even pass as a fanfic to a real deal. It's very very sad. Reviewers that called this "bioware's return to form" can only be two things - actual paid shills, or complete morons. And one does not exclude the other.
Probably both. John Epler tweeted that he'd hoped the reviews would call it "a triumphant return to form" (his exact words). I wonder what they got paid to do it.

Now, I expect the worst, until an occasional great game like Black Myth Wukong comes along.

Veilguard is, indeed, an action-adventure with RPG elements, just as you said. BioWare made that choice, and they have every right to do so. Dragon Age now feels more like Mass Effect, which I personally love! This decision opens it up to fans of games like God of War, The Last of Us, and the Star Wars Jedi series. Hardcore RPG players are disappointed, which is understandable. But no one has the right to judge BioWare for their style and choices. Art is individual, and if you don’t like the game, just let it go. There’s no reason to troll online and keep bothering those of us who do love the game. Let us have our fun, and go play what you enjoy. I’m lucky enough to love both complex RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 and action RPGs like Dark Souls, along with entertaining and polished mainstream games like God of War or Veilguard. I’m 30 hours in and loving every minute of it. Sure, the game isn’t particularly challenging and it does guide you along quite a bit. Plus, it’s geared toward younger players, which I think is great. And if I’m ever in the mood for blood, gore, and complexity, there are plenty of games that focus on that. I get the criticism and disappointment, really. But please stop trolling and let those of us who enjoy it have our fun. I’m extremely happy with it and especially thrilled that BioWare didn’t make this game dependent on multiplayer, monetization, or season passes. Plus, Veilguard is highly polished and bug-free-a rarity these days. Thank you, BioWare, for this fantastic game! I’m already looking forward to Mass Effect 5 and hope you stay true to your style.
Two of the wokest investment firms own a large portion of EA, so EA has sold their souls to them to push wokeness. Blackrock and Vanguard are two of the largest institutional investors in Electronic Arts (EA).Their stakes in EA are significant and represent a substantial portion of the company's ownership. Here's a breakdown of their current holdings: Blackrock: As of June 2024, Blackrock owns approximately 10.2% of EA's outstanding shares. This makes them one of the largest shareholders of the company. Vanguard also holds a significant stake in EA, owning approximately 8.4% of the company's shares as of June 2024. Even with a 10% stake, an investor has considerable voting rights at shareholder meetings. While a 10% stake may not be a controlling interest, it can still provide significant influence
Blackrock/Vanguard (same thing) own the major shares in practically every major company in any industry you can think of and have done for some time. Look on TH-cam for a video called MONOPOLY: FOLLOW THE MONEY. It explains plainly and shows how anyone can see for themselves. The fashionable politics of the times have no bearing on this and vice versa.
Why Blackrock and vanguard are so adamantly against straight people is odd. Pretty sure they don't want anyone to have babies lol only reason I can think of as to why they invest so much in medical abortions/contraceptives, LGBT crap and buying all the family sized homes and leaving them empty or too expensive to rent
Companies need to stop making these deals with the devil. BlackRock and Vanguard may have money to burn, but studios need to make a profit on occasion.
Well, this comment on Bluesky from David Gaider (22/9/2024) hasn't aged very well..... Thank you for the kudos, but I think you overestimate my influence. My god, why the Ogre looks that way we will never know. Remember how good and intimidating they looked in Origins... that first boss fight with one at Ostagar? So great. This? I don't even know what they were thinking here 😐
Also you briefly see Morrigan at the start of the video. If her name wasnt on screen I wouldnt have recognized her. The darkspawn look has been changed like the Ogre as well.
@Nomisdoowtsae Yeah they butchered the wonderful Morrigan too X.X Also completely ignoring any of the choices and decisions related to her from previous games. Agree, the darkspawn look goofy as all hell here.. they were so well done in Origins, Orzimmar and the deep roads section was a highlight.
Thats the messege of the game, when you missgender someone you say sorry and kneel and do 10 push ups because you facked up. Before this modern games, games used to be about friendships, brotherhood, about self sacrifice, about doing the right thing but now its about your pronoun is more important than saving the world.
Mass Effect 2, the game most people (not me) agree is the best Mass Effect, really started Bioware down the path of the "walk along this empty corridor and you're completely safe, but as soon as you enter a room and you see conveniently placed cover dotted around - prepare for a fight"-trope. Completely immersion-breaking console damaged crap. In ME1 sometimes you had to fight out in in open or in tight corridors without cover - as it should be because sometimes life is hard. Andromeda actually managed to pull the gameplay back towards good, but is seriously flawed in many other ways instead (2D characters, my face is tired etc). I'm sorry to say that Bioware peaked with ME1 and DA1 IMO. New exciting worlds to explore. Many well written characters and story. Lots of impactful options for gear and skills for both you and your companions. All this made those games feel like proper epic RPGs. Sadly, Bioware will never top those games again.

The entire game pushing virtue signaling, to the point where you have to apologize for using the ‘wrong’ pronouns through an in-game cutscene that plays out for 2 min. Forcing political agendas and pressuring players to adapt to certain moral views takes away from the enjoyment and genuine immersion that gaming should offer. I play games to escape and experience new worlds, not to have my worldview questioned or policed. If this kind of one sided moral imposition isn’t a form of bigotry, then what is? Games should be about the story, the challenge, and the experience, not pushing personal ideologies on players.
My Conspiracy theory: there are some people who hate games and gamers and they want to see them less, so in order to destroy the industry, they infiltrated every successful gaming company and they forced this kinda stuff to annoy gamers, gamers buy less games, gaming companies will bankrupt, less games, less gamers. Mission accomplished!
Not as effective with games, when small indie companies push out amazing games, also other countries aren;t neccessarily affected as much with the mind virus, and Countries like Japan push out generally better games then the West does.
Good on you for calling this out. I refunded my Steam version without even playing it. I am a gamer of near fifty years in the scene and I am pissed off of having real world ideology and politics pushed into what was once an amazing escape from the real world. Gaming used to be creativity, amazing worlds and characters, fun and interesting design and stories. Now it's mundane shite that also includes political nonsense to spread someone's ideology and worst still not even give you a choice. Other games use Diversity. BG3 is an example but it was well written and not rammed down my throat. It gave the players choices ...it allowed you to avoid or interact with it. Garbage like Veilguard is an invasion of personal privacy, it's brainwashing and is disgusting to force this into anyone, regardless of whether they like it or not. If gaming continues this way then rest assured AAA games will vanish. Political themes and agendas should never cross into video games and also who did the writing for this game? It's an embarrassment. How can you have Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack and then make such a poorly written game?...
BG3 was well written when it comes to DEI? Mate, most people in that game are gay/bi. The world in BG3 has that typical American metropolitan diversity. You can't not interact with these things. I like the game, but let's not pretend it's not full of "modern audience" nonsense that makes observant players cringe at best.

Matt,
I was able to defeat the Ogre by not moving.

"A TV licence in the UK costs £169.50 per year" Christ Mack, no wonder you don't have a TV anymore. I wouldn't either as an American with that, thanks for the review my guy.
youre legally required to have it but the TV goons thugs they hire to bully people cant legally enter your house because theyre not cops so really its optional.
There a lot of videos on YT of BBC tv license goons trying to coerce their way into homes.
They need to stop paying for those. The TV license commissars can't enter one's house without one's permission, like vampires they have to be invited in. There's no way I'd pay for that propaganda slop.
But I only use my TV as a screen for games or DVD movies. American TV is trash just like British TV.
in Germany iirc they just dont even ask, they just include it in ure taxes...
The worst thing is, the BBC has a crazy huge archive of some amazing TV shows, documentaries and news broadcasts spanning nearly 90 years. If they put them up online, and offered them to a global audience, they'd be making an absolute fortune.
@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer Would take too long to review and censor all of them, can't have the sheep getting any ideas from them.

This was a MILD RANT review compared to the Test Drive Solar Crown MEGA RANT review.
It's the stages of grief. He's moving from anger to depression
We've all been there. A game that could have been great but it was ruined by the woke mind virus. You dont feel mad you just feel like you've lost something.
I remember the first time I went through that . . . when TLOU2 made Joel stupidly blurt out his and Ellie's real names to strangers, and was then golf-clubbed to death by Abbeast, a creature who somehow managed -- in a post-apocalyptic world -- to have a supply of testosterone, and enough extra food to dirty-bulk.
Now, I expect the worst, until an occasional great game like Black Myth Wukong comes along.
Because he's more passionate about the Test Drive series. I don't think he went into this being a Dragon age fan.
Anyone ever hear people try to justify this and other products by saying “All fiction has politics and social commentary in it”?
Well there’s a difference between them being inspired from historical politics and contemporary politics. The best fictional universes ALWAYS use the former give me ONE example of a modern politics inspired universe (Or shoehorned into an established universe) that works AT ALL 🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️🛎️
Disco Eylsium. But politics there are about how to structure a society and it's finances mostly and it has a default 'all viewpoints are shit' stance on things.
That's what always cracks me up about these people, they act like there's been no total ideological shift in the last 25 years and you're a conspiracy theorist for even noticing 😂😂😂
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the wokest game ever made. Dragon Age Origins was woke. Dragon Age 2 was woke. Dragon Age Inquisition was woke. There’s never been a dragon age game that wasn’t super woke.
Yeah and what they usually mean when they say that are actually movies that highlight core human values that make you rethink politics. They cannot see the difference from that and political lecturing /propaganda.
It's a real sad state our western society is in.
@@fozzle6503
25 years ago it was 1999. 25 years before that it was 1974. There was a total ideological shift between 1974 and 1999. In 1974 the boomers were objectively racist in the majority. Over those 25 years, Gen X stopped hanging out with their racist friends and the baby boomers stopped being vocally racist for the most part. White people stopped saying the N-word in public by 1999, when it was very common in 1974. By 1999, gay people had come out of the closet, and just a few years later Queer Eye for a Straight Guy would cause Gen X and the boomers to start accepting gay people in the mainstream.
Culture changes, man. Gen X and the baby boomers are the 2 most culturally similar generations in American history, and there was still a massive ideological shift for those generations.
What you’re describing is called “growing up,” and as you get older you’ll start to figure that out. Culture always changes. Think about it this way: when dragon age origins was gay as fuck, nobody cared. When dragon age 2 was gay as fuck, nobody cared. When dragon age inquisition was the most trans inclusive/gay inclusive AAA game ever made, nobody cared. Now culture has changed over the last 10 years, and now people are throwing anti-gay tantrums and whining about wanting games to be their safe space.
Bioware looked at Baldur's Gate 3 and said they wanted NONE of that success
They really could've gone back to Dragon Age Origins style of Dark Fantasy and Tactical Combat
I would be so all over that.
What, there's no bear fkn in this one?
The reality is it doesn't matter what the general public think, all of this is being funded by large investment companies who are turning round to developers with clauses that demand certain amounts of representation or certain types of of writing.
You as a consumer can't hurt them with your wallet really, these companies are funding these projects entirely.
It's a form of social engineering.
BlackRock is one such investment firm and is very open with what it demands from corporations it's investing in.
If that was true, we wouldn't get games like Space Marine 2 or black myth Wukong that reject wokeness.
@ninochaosdrache3189
1. This is entirely true with AAA game development and Black Rock has even released the clauses it expects CEOs to follow for projects they invest in.
2. Those are AA games funded largely via different capital streams.
3. It would pay you to actually research things before typing them out, I'm extremely knowledgeable on this subject.

Mortismal Gaming is one of the biggest shills now after his positive review of this garbage!
Bro took Sweet Baby Inc. money and promoted Unknown 9 on his channel and then pretended that he's apolitical. What a rodent.
Yeah, his channel started to stink of corporate money a while since.
His reviews are incredibly generous to big budget games and a lot of smaller games he talks about in a way that makes you think he can't be bothered to play them.
I’ve heard people say he couldn’t possibly 100% all the games he says he does in the time he says he does. Idk I don’t care to look into it, I have enjoyed some of his videos especially his Divinity 2 series but man truly disappointing to see him pandering for a few bucks. Even people praising him for doing a build video after…

If someone is considering getting into Dragon Age, just get Origins.
It started it all, is half the price of Veilguard (on sale it goes for about 10%) and mainly: it's a truly fantastic game.
Yes! I love that game.
Is it easy to get into? It looks pretty clunky from a modern point of view.
@@ninochaosdrache3189 I played it again last year and I wouldn't say it aged poorly. Few technical issues and other hurdles can be solved by some fan-patch or modes. Anyway, it was and remains a worthwhile experience.
This is so depressing, why are they catering games to an extreme minority of identity abbreviation nitpickers ? Isn't it proven enough now that almost everyone is tired of this kind of shite?
Because pushing the message is more important.
I was more excited for this review than the actual game
EA had a soul to sell?
Why Blackrock and vanguard are so adamantly against straight people is odd. Pretty sure they don't want anyone to have babies lol only reason I can think of as to why they invest so much in medical abortions/contraceptives, LGBT crap and buying all the family sized homes and leaving them empty or too expensive to rent
Companies need to stop making these deals with the devil. BlackRock and Vanguard may have money to burn, but studios need to make a profit on occasion.
The weird thing is these Ruthless companies and investment groups are pushing DEI, when we know they could care less about it and are soulless

Thank you for the kudos, but I think you overestimate my influence. By all reports, the writing is stellar (which I’d expect no less from Patrick and their team). As for the rest, whether you think it’s good or not it would be no different if I was still at BioWare.

They don't even bother trying to be subtle in their subversion anymore.

I can't stop laughing at that Concord inspired player character. Well done!
Ahh the only review I was waiting for...
I MISSED THIS! Definitely NOT being recommended :(
3:25 Even without the incessant political sermons, you'd still have writing so bad that even the characters aren't immersed in the world of the game. Also, i am not going to give them even an inch, the game is complete trash, propaganda and no person under 20 years should play it because it's extremly damaging for their mental health. Especially people in depression
Agreed. We have to stop this molly-coddling talk giving them a little leeway and need to put our hands up and say, "NO!"
Fire the writers I don't understand how these for profit companies keep letting this type of design ruin the games they pay for
No, they are not the ones who are the reason for why the game is how it is. It is the management, the higher ups in general. Completely boot out the Management and then you will see things change for the better. The people that make the writers write garbage are the management.
@@IzzyGames874 I mean the company is filled to the brim with trans wokies. Maybe the higher ups hired them. But this is the enitre company. Bioware should end.
What a shame is right. Origins really played a huge part in my start as a PC gamer. How far we have fallen. Appreciate you taking another for the team lol
This released 9yrs after Witcher 3
My Conspiracy theory: there are some people who hate games and gamers and they want to see them less, so in order to destroy the industry, they infiltrated every successful gaming company and they forced this kinda stuff to annoy gamers, gamers buy less games, gaming companies will bankrupt, less games, less gamers.
Mission accomplished!
Yes, it's about destroying a hobby that a certain demographic(white guys) enjoy.
They did the same thing with movies. Comic books. Tabletop games. All forms of entertainment have been infected.
Not as effective with games, when small indie companies push out amazing games, also other countries aren;t neccessarily affected as much with the mind virus, and Countries like Japan push out generally better games then the West does.
Don't forget: creating excuses to push streaming instead = monthly fee = endless profits.
Now now, don't be antisemitic
Origins was a real RPG, 100% recommend that one
Ahh shit here we go again.
