Want to be even MORE angry about the writing and what could have been? True story… The writer that CREATED Varric put up such a fight over trying to keep his character consistent with the past entries in the series that BioWare got tired of it and just fired the writer, and Varric is killed off literally out of spite right at the start of the game. Don't you dare forget the Shitquisition. DA2 had 18 months to explain why it's not as great as Origins, yet even that outclasses Inquisition in any, every and all aspects. Have you played DAO recently? They literally look like humans. @TheQueenskingdom like you said, because of limitations but they were meant to look like the games after. They don't have any limitations and yet went backwards. And with DA2 it's a mute point because veilguard combat is atrocious itself.

@@Bignuke87Again can someone explain to me what was the point of that "push-ups" scene? Why did they put that in the game? Why??????? Who was this made for????
Actually, I can. Peter weekes was literally quoted like a year or two ago saying on twitter he wishes he could make everyone who misgenders someone do pushups. Then they literally put his(?) Power fantasy INTO THE GAME!@@DylanOakley-v3k
The sequence of Isabella doing push-ups while getting on a soap box about how apologies work is *why* I believe the writers wrote the characters after *themselves* . We can't disagree or offend any of the characters because the writers *are* the characters. How Bellara physically recoiled in horror when Isabella "misgenders" Taash is how they expect (and demand) people to react to that. The desire to be "treated like everyone else" is just wanting to be treated as an equal in society and that is the baseline of expectation from one human to another. That is equality. No more no less. What is *unreasonable* is saying that's not good enough and expecting/demanding special treatment and special consideration FROM everyone else and THAT is what people have a problem with. Thats aligned with the fallacy your feelings are everyone else's responsibility to manage, placate, etc.. "You HAVE to affirm me". You HAVE to treat me different from everyone else otherwise you're a bad person. You don't want to be treated EQUALLY, you want to be treated SPECIAL.
Its b/c that claim has always been a sham, they've never wanted to be treated like everyone else b/c by and large they already were. Being judged by your appearance is something literally everyone has to deal with, and learning to deal with it in healthy ways is part of growing up, or I guess it usually is. Most people aren't one thing or another they wish they could be, the rest of us have to make peace with that. Why should we be coerced into helping people unwilling to do what everyone else does, lie to themselves? I mean unless the person is having physical hallucinations that they have sexual organs they don't have, everything else we associate with being a man or a woman is cultural. When someone with gender dysphoria says "I just feel like a man/woman", I think "well what does that mean to you? Why do you need to be a man/woman to be those things?"
That scene is repugnant. It has absolutely nothing to do with pronouns. It's just bullying and social jockeying. Someone making a trivial, human mistake now has to humiliate and prostrate themselves to acceptably apologize. And notice it wasn't even Trash who pointed it out. Nope, the other characters have to white knight on Trash's behalf, because of course non-binary people have no agency of their own and it's the responsibility of normies to correct themselves. Also, of course, a simple "My bad" isn't enough. Nor is a gushing "I'm so sorry" because that "takes attention off the non-binary person". But doing ridiculous pushups, which also takes the attention away, is permitted, since it's also humiliating. All because someone momentarily didn't counteract a lifetime of pronoun use and make a special exception for this one person. These are utterly ridiculous Calvin Ball rules. I've known LGBTQ and trans people most of my life and not one single one was hung up on this BS except the ones who changed their orientation like the wind for attention. 9/10 it was the straights just trying to one-up each other with "calling it out" to "prove" they care more than the next one. And what could be the ultimate proof but to cram this sh-- into a Triple-A game. Whoever wrote this trash probably sees themselves as the most virtuous in all the land, the ultimate feather in their cap. If anyone ever calls them out for anything they can point to this moronic claptrap scene as their undefeatable UNO reverse card.
Unless of course that person is a woman with big boobs, then they not only deserve no consideration, but apparently, must be rendered an impossibility.
When you make a game that's inclusive and progressive, you can't include the option to be mean to said characters because they know people will pick them.

I still can't believe those hack writers destroyed the entire southern region of the world, just so they didn't have to worry about player choices carrying over from past games .
That wasnt the writers, the game director recently said in an interview that they didnt want to handle each variation and felt restricted. Leadership makes these choices.
@marcialhd You know the places and people in Dragon Age: Origins, 2, and Inquisiton? They're all dead and got destroyed by the Blight. Everything, every choice, from those 3 games are completely invalidated in Veilguard. Fereldan destroyed, Kirkwall destroyed, etc.
Eh. That's like saying you knew Mass Effect Andromeda was going to be bad because it wasn't called Mass Effect 4. Nah, the trailer for Veilguard was clearly an appeal to "funny and quirkly adventure characters with a pixar-like design" and that's what started this entire pain train of reviews even before the game was out. But here we are, people are actually saying DA2 and DA3 were great compared to this game. How times have changed.

I also hate the story concept that you have 2 ancient elven gods hell-bent on destroying the world with Blight and the only thing actively fighting them is a tiny group of "veilguards"... in Inquisition you built up an entire Faction/Army big enough to rival an Empire to fight what is essentially 1/10th the threat... Nobody takes you seriously, the Wardens ignore you, when clearly something is wrong when the entire South is under siege. And then one day I see a video talking about dragon age, veil guard, Saw a little preview. I knew better than to get super excited Because that's just how things work now with video games. But I thought, How can they really ruin this? I mean, aside from the obvious, like changing all the characters into being super woke, They have everything they need to make a good game. Just build on what worked before, Optimize it, Improve it maybe. Be a little bold here and there and try some new stuff. That improves the experience maybe. But the story and the characters. It's not like you're building from scratch. It's like a book series, You're just continuing the story, Whether it's the end of the story or just another saga. In the story doesn't matter. I feel like Joe missed almost all of them so he could rant about pretty subjective small topic points.
@arkainin4638 I think that's my biggest problem... everybody is just happy and gets along... nobody has any convictions or beliefs, the good guys are good guys and bad guys are bad guys... inquisition had annoying characters because I disagreed with them and their beliefs, here everyone feels like a carbon copy of rook's beliefs but with different accents and looks... even when I condemn a followers city to be destroyed by a dragon he is agreeable and not upset in the slightest at me... which is ridiculous, even if you ultimately understand only 1 can be saved you would be pissed tf off that it wasn't your city chosen 😂 dialogue is flat, characters are uninteresting, you return to the same areas again and again, they can't even be bothered to make a new arena to fight said dragon in... its just an extension to the 1st fucking area from the intro... the only improvement from Inquisition was the combat system. The gear system is worse, the characters are worse, story sucks, maps suck, its just an average game at every stage.

I read someone say that if I don't like Veilguard, it's because the game wasn't made for me. But that's exactly the problem-it should have been made for fans like me, the ones who love Dragon Age. Instead, it feels like it's catering to a temporary audience that may not even stick around. If you want to experiment, create a new medieval fantasy RPG with its own identity and go wild. But when you're working with the Dragon Age IP, don't completely change everything for no reason. It's frustrating and disrespectful to longtime fans.

Inquisition was trying to tick Dragon Age Origins boxes while trying to hold on to its Dragon Age 2 inheritance, that's why it failed to fully satisfy both audiences. But it was a good enough game on its owm that it got more new players interested in the franchise, and it ticked enough boxes for veteran players that we were all gunning for a sequel. And we got this. We gotta let go, OG Bioware isn't coming back.
For now on, I’ll consider Inquisition + Trespasser as the final Dragon Age game(especially for a cliffhanger) after seeing this joke of a sequel. Glad I didn’t spend money on this disappointment. God help us from Mass Effect…

Only difference is a few extra points in war assets and different intro scene. Points that are easily acquired throughout the rest of the game and multiplayer from doing much smaller side content. Did you confront Ashley about her xenophobic outlook on intergalactic cooperation? Doesn't matter, because most of her entire character arch in the first two games is ignored and changed to "Special Forces Soldier Barbie with an Alcohol Problem." Did you save or destroy the Collector base? Doesn't matter because Cerberus (which is now a full-blown army capable of waging open war across the galaxy instead of sneaky black ops organization) still salvages something from it. And if you did save it, all it amounts to is, like the Rachni, a few extra war asset points. And that's not even mentioning how much the writing removed the menace and mystery the Reapers had. @@alexschott2092 I agree with pretty much everything you said here except the last part. Reapers are absolutely still a menace throughout the game. The starchild stuff only comes up at the very end. It's only once the skybeam is in sight that their portrayal turns outright silly.

Shouldn't be hard. The game, from what I understand, takes so many liberty's with the lore it's basically an alt-universe. I think to save this franchise they should do a prequel called Dragon Age: Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain, and the story will be about how Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain turned into the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain, because i think the main problem with Veilguard is that the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are not fleshed out enough, the Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain lore was side lined, so obviously the new game Dragon Age: Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain makes sense, so we could really understand what caused Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain turn into the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain

@@DylanOakley-v3k peter weekes said he wished he could make everyone who misgendered someone do pushups, like a year ago
@DylanOakley-v3k because apologies aren't enough, you must also whip yourself to show submission lol
You nailed it
Its b/c that claim has always been a sham, they've never wanted to be treated like everyone else b/c by and large they already were.
Especially cramming it into dragon age of all things. The same series where you can choose to kill a demon possessed child.
Unless of course that person is a woman with big boobs, then they not only deserve no consideration, but apparently, must be rendered an impossibility.

13:45 I think what made the combat frustrating for me was invisible companions that the enemy completely ignores... so youre stuck 1v25 half the time while your companions do next to 0 damage and arent even a useful distraction... you can cheese any fight by running around waiting for combos to reload to detonate and do damage, anything other than a warrior build is pain since everything agros you endlessly.
Nobody but a bunch of borderline criminal secret society type organizations are willing to help... there is 0 conversation or debate around the ethics of said organizations and you just magically take on gods that dominated the ancient world for thousands of years until one of their own worked against them... shit game
Remember when Duncan killed that guy in cold blood for refusing to drink the blood? Pepperidge farm remembers but Bioware sure as fuck doesnt.

"That guy" drew his weapon first.

THANK YOU. I might be new to Dragon Age but I just played Origins and the whole Joining is super secretive for a reason. Meanwhile, we've got Davrin just spilling to everyone and apparently you can be a Grey Warden now without doing the Joining, too. You also can opt out with no repercussions. Also, sure would've been nice if we had that villain show up in Origins to suck up the archdemon instead. Talk about watering down the Dark Ritual or if you do sacrifice someone.
@@FurbleBurble It is implied that few survive the ritual, so it wouldn't make sense to go on with it knowing the odds are against you. But the catch is... No one knows the odds because the ritual is secret.
The way it works is a grey warden will recruit you if they believe you have a chance to become one. Here, you may accept or refuse their offer. However, once you get to the point where they explain to you how the ritual works (drinking the blood), you cannot back out of it anymore. You can either accept and drink or refuse, in which case they will kill you on the spot to keep the details of the rituals secret.

I liked the game overall but I’m surprised you didn’t mention that none of your choices from previous games matter at all. Southern Thedas is screwed and nothing we’ve ever done helps it. None of our companions have cameos or quests based if they survived previous instalments. Is Architect helping with the blight? I let him live but that’s completely inconsequential. What is Hawke doing (if you didn’t left the, in the fade)? No idea, the game doesn’t care so why should you. Here's one thing that is truly exasperating about Veilguard: It has forced the bar so low for what a Dragon Age game is. Despite me really disliking Dragon Age 2 so much that I dropped it after a while (and admittedly not having played Inquisition to date), those sequels are so astoundingly more "Dragon Age" than this mess that I'm actually a little bit eager to go back and give them another chance.

I didn't play dragon age Inquisition, until about a year ago, when I noticed it was free to play on the xbox pass or whatever. I was in the mood for that type of game, so I gave it a shot. Absolutely loved it couldn't get enough, I 100%Ed that game. I did everything that there was to do. I was very sad when I was finished. But lo and behold. They dun fucked it up.

The gear system is worse, the characters are worse, story sucks, maps suck, its just an average game at every stage.

That is not an unrealistic theory you got there. That can happen. I see that on terminally online people all the time that they don't just act online the ways they do but offline as well.
I miss the dismemberment in Dragon Age Origins... and never got to see it again...
Origins will always have a special place in my heart.
Me playing city female elf rogue origin: escaping a human douchebag house covered in tons of blood and decapitating the fucker in the end with my two daggers.
And that was just a simple prologue.
Bodies often explode into bloody mist in DA2, and some of those blood will stick to your characters
@@cjnf11 In the first town you kill an entire group of men over a disagreement in a bar and have a conversation with the owner as the thugs bleed out on the ground next to you.
When you first come upon the warhound the owner is about to cut his throat because he doesn't want to watch the dog succumb to the sickness. Hell, they make you choose between killing a possessed child or trying to find a way to exorcise him.
Dragon Age was built upon harsh realistic examples about the fleeting nature of life in a dark struggling world.
The only way to save Dragon Age is to completely remove Veilguard from the canon entirely and hire an actual competent team.
Shouldn't be hard. The game, from what I understand, takes so many liberty's with the lore it's basically an alt-universe. Gilhan'nain was goddess of the woods and I remember reading a whole codex about her being tricked by a hunter and left for dead. Whereas here she is some sort of Dr. Mengele, immoral scientist character. Like, wtf is this?
Yea especially since Veilguard its basicaly a reboot but instead of restarting the universe they just purged every area of every single past game so that every past choice or story of previous games is invalid
But they could get sued cause they are purple and blue haired people with strict pro nouns
Just call the next game “Dragon Age Dreadwolf,” pretend Veilguard never happened and make the DA 4 that people actually wanted.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard really makes you FEEL like you're fighting the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain
Lmao 😂😂😂
It gave me goosebumps every time we fought them...
@@jonbaxter2254 fought who? surely you dont mean the ancient elven gods elgar'nan and ghilan'nain
It's a return to form of the ancients elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain
Im not a dragon age fan....explain the joke. Are they pronouncing it wrong or is it just the sheer amount of times their names are said?
I wouldn't review shit like this unless I had Jack Daniels sponsoring me.
Seriously, if modern games treat you like a toddler, Failguard treats you like a toddler with down syndrome.
My favorite part was when the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain said "we are the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain" and then they ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nained all over the place
LMAO I love this meme is so stupid
Do you know where to get the book of the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain becasue I wanna make sure the book of the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain is actually about the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain to make sure it's about the ancient elven gods Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain.

No.
When the review is more entertaining than the game.
I feel like theres some beauty in it. Its good that ppl are rejecting the weird woke nonsense finally...
hey at least they have the diversity, gotta love the diversity
Actual genuine criticism of the game. Wow I am impressed.
I agree. Killing them should have been a deeply sad and emotional experience. However they were cheap Disney villains with little back story and no complexity. So sad at the state of the game
@@RubyRose23328 Just in case people had not yet established you were R slurred from all the comment spam you've been doing on Joes video, you go and say that the overly sarcastic, absolute mockery of a post is what you deem "wow genuine criticism". Please refrain from using the internet for awhile.

Ah yes, the ancient elven gods Elder Scrolls and Gilligan.
Bro I didn't even realize how good we had it in DAO, that intro with Duncan telling the Darkspawn story solos all of DAV
Watching Duncan kill Jory because he refuses to drink the dark spawn blood because he fears dying and leaving his wife/child alone, sets the entire tone for the Dragon Age universe.
Compare having to kill an initiate who refuses an order, leaving his child without a father to having a character do push ups because they misgendered someone on their team.
That sums up who far the series has fallen.
I mean to be fair, DAO story telling was a blast
Can't lie bro I love how long Angry Joe and other Joe stuck together. I was a teen watching these guys I'm now 30😂 Thier brotherly relationship is one a Kind!

At least Andromeda was in another galaxy that we can completely forget about. Veilguard has utterly destroyed Southern Thedas, destroyed the lore, and destroyed our beloved legacy characters. This game is an insult to all REAL Dragon Age fans.
And Andromeda was slapped together in 18 months. This game has no excuse.
Don’t worry, Mass Effect is likely to get the same treatment. 😢
It takes place in Northern Thedas.
@sonnenblumefrau2048 I know that, I'm just stating that Bioware destroyed Southern Thedas so they wouldn't have to include anything from the past 3 games. Which is lazy/incompetent writing.
