      Most comic packs aren't rare and were actually blown out at deep discounts when that particular line was ending. Now, however, they go for a small fortune.

    One of my favorite "rare" figures was the vac-metal silver Darth Vader they made for Toy Fair in 2002. Some became available through the Fan Club and I was able to get one. I was also able to help some other collectors who lived outside the US to get them as well by letting them use my address for shipping and then mailing them out after they arrived. Collectors helping collectors!

  • @buddyhepburn
    @buddyhepburn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I think the Return cards are not as rare in volume produced compared to the Revenge cards. It may be that they are more desirable to general collectors to match up with the rest of their standard collections where the Revenge cards are more for completist collectors and people who open them and don't care about the card. Boba Fett does seem to be one that people buy up multiples of the same versions for since they always sell out quickly and are in demand.

    Hey Tim great show again tonite! I have two 3 3/4 inch Star Wars figures that I and I think other collectors consider rare. The first one you mentioned in your video and it is the Jar Jar Binks in carbonate on a Phantom Menace VC card that I bought from Amazon about a decade ago. I think it was a San Diego Comic Con exclusive which helps make it so valuable and rare! The second figure that I have that is definitely rare is a Legacy Collection Padme Amidala in the torn white outfit from the Geonosis Arena in Attack of the Clones. What makes this figure so rare is that it was DISCONTINUED to make the orange-striped 3 3/4 inch black series figures that you can somewhat find out in circulation now on EBay & Amazon but if you can find a picture of the Legacy Collection action figure and you look closely at it you will see that the black series figure is slightly smaller and the card is definitely different. Great idea for a show tonight! As alway, keep up the great work!

    For me what makes a figure rare is not necessarily the price it goes for but how difficult it is to find even just one for sale at all! I’ve had Star Wars figures since I was about 6 years old but all were played with/broken and I gave them all away to charity I’ve only recently decided to get into collecting and the rarest figures I own are the ARC Trooper 3 pack not very rare to be honest but you’ll be lucky to pick them up at retail price now, great vid Tim!

    1) The "Endor Capture Luke" card back changed a few times after initial launch. It started out with the classic Jedi cardback and there was initially a printing error where the name pill was missing the shading. 2) Kithaba initially launched with a brown head band before changing to the red. 3) ESB Boba Fett had a paint change between 2010-2012.

    Glad ya got one of those Canadian Yoda finally. Awesome figure. Great list of figures to get overall.
    I’ve got that legacy Trando in my Cantina open buying a drink. heheh -never knew he was a rare one.
    Those comic packs. A lot of them sell for quite a bit these days and it always amazes me cause I remember seeing those things just lingering on the shelves warming pegs. At the time when they were being released nobody wanted them. Now all the sudden, everyone wants them. so crazy how things change over time. I think no one wanted them back then cause of the comics. I remember a lot of ppl in my Star Wars club complaining about those comics thrown in with the figures and a sort of stigma was thrown up against buying those.

    Waiting for this video to go live (plug - everyone join Bossk's Patreon!), but I think a workable breakdown could cover 3 categories: expensive, rare (limited production run, etc), and difficult to obtain (convention exclusive, few come up for sale, etc). Obviously a figure could fall into more than one category, but it could also fit into just one category. Also, where a figure falls depends on the collector because expensive for one collector may be manageable for another, and something may be difficult to obtain in one area but more readily available in another.

    Wow, so many figures I got at cost years ago and still have. I had no idea so many of these guys, especially legacy figures, go for so much. I have Leesun Sirlin, Kal Fas, multiple Willrow Hoods (which were DEFINITELY pegwarmers!) and many more. Legacy was an incredible line!
    I sold off a lot of comic pack figures a few years ago, which I do regret. I still have many left, but I could have made so much more money hanging onto those figures for a few more years.
    I was also at comic con when they sold that massive Death Star set and the big set with the Jar Jar Carbonite. Passed on them simply because I didn't want to lug those massive boxes around the con all day. Sigh!

    @Jimmy-hf6ny 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Surprisingly, when looking to complete a 'faction', as a whole, I found the ewoks to be a bit expensive. If you're looking to acquire Cantina characters, Kal-fas is expensive but thankfully most of them are affordable. Jabba's palace can be expensive as well with figures like the Yakface with coin and the gunner, etc. Although the ewoks, individually might not go up that high, they are not the easiest group to complete with items like the comics pack or Warok with Glider can be a little costly. Same with The Walmart Pack or the duo pack with Paploo.

    The rarest thing I have in my collection is a vintage Bib Fortuna with a crimson robe instead of the gray one. Here in Mexico the now extinct company "Lili Ledy" acquired the license from Kenner and sometimes they had to use whatever materials they had on hand to make the figure.

    There are a few figures that I remember buying in stores years ago, because I wanted them for my collection, and I’m surprised to see how much money they are selling for now. Figures like Giran, Tarados Gon. Wooof, and the red bandana variant of Kithaba.
    I think the TVC Gamorrean Guard would be super rare today if Hasbro had never rereleased it. But it was an insanely popular figure when it first came out, so there’s really no way Hasbro could have gotten away with just one release of that guy. Also it seems that the 2019 rerelease is the one commanding the highest prices on eBay.

  • @starkiller9897

    Great video I think most are expensive because of there desirability not there low production numbers. I think the Canadian Yoda must be rare as I don't see them making to many of them. The Barge Yakface another rare one which sadly I need and Jabbas Barge being in Australia I missed it. Prices now are ridiculous but trying to save up to hopefully find out before it gets any higher and I can then never acquire!!

  • @Danikin13
    @Danikin13 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have so many figures, as far as rare I think the only ones I have are the Haslab figures. I do have a couple from the cantina that are rare and now that the Cantina is backed makes them even more expensive. I agree that some figures like the legacy line are rare because things were slowing down for STAR WARS toys so lines weren't mass produced. I'm pretty sure that was around the same time as Revenge of the Sith and that line kind of overshadowed the legacy. That was also a hard time for me to collect so I missed out on lots that I've had to piece together since. I have so many boxes of carded figures and boxes items in storage that by the time I am able to unpack them all I could find I have more rare than I thought. Would definitely be fun to do unboxing videos like the storage space shows. Most of my boxes are only labeled, if at all, with STAR WARS, nothing else. With everything from whole lines of carded figures to ships, creatures, dolls, and other random fandom items carefully wrapped and Tetrisd together. My collection also includes almost the entire original Kenner line so finding things from them that are in good shape can be rare and I have lots of that collection in awesome condition, plus their boxes which show the wear of time but I still have them intact. It truly is hard to say what is truly rare these days or, like you said, just expensive. Always enjoy your videos and May the Force be with You

    I remember when the Canadian Yoda on alternate cardback was on the shelf in Canada. They didn't last long on the shelf nor did the Canadian Slave Leia with multi-language packaging (nice throwback to the old days). I want Hasbro to continue the old style POTF figures with the coins. Yes I have the Yoda and got it graded (9.0), Yakface with coin graded (9.0). Giran is a rare figure and the Republic Clone Commando plus Ahsoka Tano ! Foolishly I passed on the Canadian versions available at retail. US versions was on-line only so I bought a full case assortment and sent it in to AFA (similar to UKG).

    I picked up the Willrow Hood figure a few years ago for £8 in a local collectors' shop. I knew it was rare, but I've no idea of the value... ebay prices are hard to judge because these sort of figures are always 'buy it now' at a ridiculous price that never sells. I have most of the comic 2-packs, but not the one in this video... I would sure like to see that line released again, but I suppose they'd be retailing at around £30 these days.

    One of the ones that I have been looking for was a sort of new set I think it came out either just a little before Episode 3 came out. There was one of the three pack in the Cantina one of them had a praying mantis in it. The other had a blue snaggletooth much taller than the small guy that replaced the taller Blue one. I was assuming it was a cinema scene because it had the cantina bar as part of the whole being of the set having like a playset part of it. The other one I am sorry to have gotten stolen was the packs of the Jedi counsel from The Phantom Menace.

    Hey Bossk, I have just about all the Vintage Collection from 2010 to 2018 kept in cards. Most are in pretty good shape. Some are mint, some are unpunched, some are in great shape. Some are just mediocre. The only really cool ones I currently have are the Mail-Away Firing Rocket Boba Fett with the Star Wars logo, the Boba Fett Prototype Mail-Away, the 4-LOM & Zuckuss Box Set, and George Lucas as a Stormtrooper from the Saga Collection. Then maybe some other odds and ends. Nothing too spectacular. I don't have the Jar Jar in Carbonite, Jocasta Nu rarity, Salacious Crumb, or the Mouse Droid, but would like to get them one day. I may have one or two of the Lost Line figures with their alternate backgrounds. Love the artwork! I also have almost all of the Multipacks and vehicles and playsets but the original TIE Fighter, TESB AT-AT Walker (I have the ROTJ version instead), and the Khetanna. And I sold my original Slave 1 for the new version... as well as the Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run. I have my original MFalcon listed on eBay as the new one is just better in every sense of the word. As well as most repacks, reissues, etc. I love collecting these toys too and hope to keep what I have now and keep going for many years. MTFBWY !! Steve from Texas.

      @@BossksBounty question for you. Do you shoot for unpunched or unstamped? I’m guessing the ones we mentioned seem to be the most rare or hard to find. I’ve also seen the Grand Moff Tarkin & the AT-AT Commander get pricey. As well as the Bespin Leia. The Multi packs can get up there too. I have: Leesub Sirln (£50 through bidding) thought she was impossible to get in UK but after 4 years of wanting finally got.
    Boba Fett VC ROTJ I got him loose as I like to display my figures or customise to improve parts but with the new VC Boba on the way this figure I will probably sell as the new one makes this one very dated. Only cost me £6 though so it’s all the cardback that makes him skyrocket.
    Thrawn and Talon Karde comic pack
    Darth Talon and Cade Skywalker comic pack
    Most of the comic packs are semi or extremely rare nowadays.
    Sky Moore was hard to find in the UK but not extremely pricey
    I do not understand why Ashoka Tano VC is so expensive and it is purely for her VC cardback as she’s available as a 3.75 black series figure
    Anything force unleashed related has always skyrocketed in price but sort of understandably so. I got the pack with Starkiller Raxis Prime style, Juno, a Stealth see through storm trooper (Shadow Trooper) Evo trooper and Kota militia years ago when the game was first out so only cost me s reasonable price let’s assume £40-50 but now it would be worth triple that. I got the one with Darth Phoebus recently for nearly £200.
    Luke Death Star escape. No idea why he’s rare but people want a buy it not price of £50-£70. There are also no good A new Hope modern Farmboy Luke figures as he’s too short and the heads are all awful. With the new 3 pack of Luke figures being hyper realistic (StormTrooper being the standout Luke head to me) I’ve made my own custom Luke with this figure but still it did cost me £44 to get the Death Star Luke and only £32 for the 3 pack of Luke’s!
    Jango Fett VC seems to command high price but got him at £40. Saw him for sale years ago for £20 in a shop and should have bought him then but oh well.
    Disturbance at the Lara homestead is a funny one. Considering you’re buying a rubbish sandtrooper and Beru and Owen power of the force 2/3 style. They look pretty bad but yeah it’s the thin brittle plastic base and decently made top dome piece you’re paying for. Bought mine second hand without the trooper for £28 but new people sell them at £260+
    Certain figures I will never own because I just do not care like the Ice Cream man or they go for stupid prices. I’d like a Nien Nunb but he is £70 or more nowadays. That’s what I paid for my VC Tarkin.
    There does seem to be an unreasonable asking price for a lot of figures but it’s acceptable or somewhat understandable the older the figure. Sometimes you just have to be patient and wait for a new version of something to come out as it will be better and cheaper like the Boba Fett which considering the characters popularity and need of an upgrade isn’t that surprising that he’s being released, or just save up or see if you can find good deals on the rare ones you know they won’t make again for the foreseeable future like most of the Cantina Aliens.
    Great and interesting discussion video as usual!
