    Hands down this is my favourite football discussion ever. Not just this bit but the entire interview. It is refreshingly honest and the two managers are being totally themselves. There are no sound bites, pr exercises, media savvy posturing, just two football managers doing their best to be civil and have it out with each other. Like Clough Revie too was a total legend, but Clough was a brilliant orator and he got his points across in the most entertaining way. Best of all these two managers were both being themselves.
    I have watched this interview dozens of times over the years and it always captivates me and brings me back in time to another era and a more 'innocent' way of football. Although football was much rougher back then, and tackling could be downright evil, there was an honesty and innocence about the game before it became over commercialised and all the money and PR firms stepped in.

    If you watch closely you will notice that Don Revie seems intimidated by Clough and rarely looks him in the eye. I am not taking any sides, but from what I can see we have two VERY different managers with completely different values and approaches. Great footage, thanks for putting it up.

      Leeds could play great skilful football at times, but they had a cynical dirty side to them. Fact.
      He also thought the lure of a bag of gold from the UAE was more appealing than managing his own national team.

    Don't know much about English football in the 70s but this is top notch viewing. A shame TV stations can't run interviews and conversations like this now. These days football commentators and interviewers think they are as important as the players and managers. Most interviews are either about scoring a 'gotcha', luring out a controversial statement or creating a headline. The best interviewers know when to shut up and let their subjects speak, as this bloke did.

    Clough came into an ageing squad all due testimonials in an age when players didn't earn much and needed the money from it. It took the club 20 years to recover, if they'd have given him time they would have ruled Europe like Liverpool did.

    Clough to lower smaller teams to the highest biggest prizes in football, very special together. Clough/Taylor are unique no others can or have had the ability to go to any club and make them Champions within a couple of years. If England had them they would of won World cup with them, it would of been Clough/Taylor picking the team from clubs who they wanted, then making the team winners. They only had a small budget at Derby and Forest but they did it, if they had so much choice as England managers they would of produced the greatest England team ever seen. Forest Euro Champions 2 years in a row, from nowhere they were best in europe for 2 years. England would of been best in the world at least once maybe twice with them.

    • @InTheArchivesAgain

      England have since since 1966 been total losers, the biggest travesty in English football history is not giving the job to Clough, he was then and no one ever since the only man who may have done something, the reason he never gotthe job, England like nice "yes" men, and not sure of your age, but in the disasterous world cup of 1970, when asked what he'd do, he said I'd drop 11 players and start again, he was too radical for English football, but by god he would have changed things

    • @Adamb87
      @Adamb87 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      England would of won the world cup perhaps twice in a row with the very very special legends that are Clough and Taylor. The two of them would win the world cup with the inexperienced and rather shit looking squad we got for 2014 World cup. Nothing has touched the brilliance of Clough and Taylor but the FA never wanted them but they did want Keegan, Hoddle and McLaren who just scream failure at worst mediocre at best. FA is still a bunch of motherfucking old school board types from the 1960's they should let the Manager who is the best be England's Manager not middle of the road quarter final sorts like we have had. Massive respect to Bobby Robson he offered to let clough step in but FA said no way. Sir Bobby was worth calling a good manager for 1990 Italy.
