    Great change in pace and detail from the normal video - well done for mixing it up.

      Thanks! I have done a few before and there's plenty more still to come

    Exactly the problem I had, but had to get to the lower pawl in both shifters. Dried up stuck grease! I agree with not taking the bottom spring out below the plastic piece as it is a real bugger to get back in but the whole shifter body can be removed from the housing to get access to the lower pawls both of which were stuck on mine. I took a photo before removing each piece so I put them back correctly. Took a few hours but I’m pretty sure I could now do it in under 20 minutes now. Nice patient clear video that will help a lot of people.

      Thanks! Definitely takes some time the first time. Worth it though!

    This is sooo helpful, I was about to toss that same LX shifter, but I will give it another try now...

      I definitely understand the frustration of just wanting to toss them. I've felt that before when repairing shifters..

    Very clear and helpful!
    I had two frozen Altus(?) shifter on my Raleigh Pioneer build and having previously seen how you fixed them in your previous videos I opened them up and quickly freed the stuck pawls with some WD-40 and using a tiny flat head screwdriver to reach inside and wiggle the pawl head to break the rust seal and let the WD40 do it’s work!

    • @wewillmakeit3615
      @wewillmakeit3615 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WD40 is not a lubricant. Your "fix"won't hold for too long, I'm afraid. You can try an free up those pawls using WD40. But I would suggest to flush with brake cleaner and using a light oil for lubrication afterwards. If that doesn't do, the old grease ist too far gone and needs to be scraped off. Like seen in this here video.

      @@wewillmakeit3615 I did use other lube after I’d flushed it all out and had freed it all up. Works fine so far 👍🏻 If it ever needs a full rebuild I know I can refer to this vid.

    nice one
    I took my Sram Rival hydraulic (road) levers apart after the rear derailleur stopped shifting. dot 5 fluid everywhere and 3 hours of swearing later the lever was back together. the fault was at the derailleur end after all that, and was a 5 minute fix. oh how I laughed...

    It's an achievement in its self operating on those while wearing those gloves, tried using them myself but always end up chucking them in the trash... 😆
    Good work on the shifters tho!

    Just got a pair of LX ST-M570s. Sticky when they came, and I took a look inside. Quickly desided to try with lots of lube first and that did the trick. Smooth clicky shifters now. But patience and lots of pictures will take you through a job like that. And never ever rush it - you cannot :)

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah a flush of lube can work if they’re not too badly gummed up already.

    Ah, I will have to take a look at mine. I have a set of XTR shifters, from the same era, and the rear shifter is snow slipping. Thanks.

    dont remove the pawl. Leave it in place and push it back and forth 30 reps and you'll be fine!

    I have a XTR M910 set that has the shift indicator spring that has disconnected and does not move. Can you access from the top? It came undone when I took out the Allen bolt on the bottom. It would be helpful to see if possible. 😮

      Sorry - I've not worked on those shifters - I couldn't give you an answer on that one.

      @@MonkeyShred thanks for the reply. I was able to take off the top plate of the indicator housing and able to reseat the indicator lever into the pin on the shifter. All good now!
