    I'm a 76-year old female with limited hand strength. Thank goodness for your video! I just replaced the top part of the new valve and fixed it all up without having to unscrew the bottom of the tank which would have been difficult to do because I can't bend down for long and was worried that my hands would not undo the bottom of the tank. Thank you so much for your easy to understand directions!

    Thank you so much for your video explaining the whistling noise and also how to replace the toilet fill valve. First, I was so relieved to find out that the noise wasn't something dangerous like pressure building up. I never would have had the nerve to try to replace the part myself if it wasn't for your video. I got the part and read the instructions that came with it, and I was confused and afraid to try it. Then I looked up your video again and you demonstrated and explained it so well. (A picture is worth a thousand words!) I gave it a try and I did it!! Thanks!

    Thank you so much for showing how to do partial replacement! The hose on my toilet was covered with putty. I live in an apartment and was afraid to mess with it. I watched your video and I bought the part at Home Depot. I did it myself! I have severe ptsd, agoraphobia and anxiety. I'm on disability and am very ashamed I don't work. I hate calling the maintenance guys. They make rude comments to me about how it must be nice to not have to work. Thanks to people like you posting these helpful videos on TH-cam I have one less headache. 👍

      I live in an apartment, too. I don’t like the guys coming in, because they look like they’re shopping the place.
      My only problem for this easy fix and it’s a big one, is that the water valve underneath the toilet is stuck. I used penetrant 2 days ago, even replaced the poorly-fitting handle and am still waiting. Thank goodness I’m going to work. I can use a bathroom without worry, at least for a bit.

    These are really good instructions, but I was lucky and found a simpler way. Remove the cap of the fill valve, by holding up the fill valve arm to horizontal and twisting the cap a quarterturn counterclockwise, like a child-proof pill bottle. It will come off easily. Then you can remove the rubber seal and clean the groove with a soft brush, like an old toothbrush, and replace it. Or you can replace that seal with a new one or even replace the whole cap assembly. All of these are somewhat easier than replacing half the fill valve. I really like your video though, because I don't want to change out the whole fill valve, as that requires several steps to insure you don't get water all over the place.

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if the whole assembly was recently installed, it's worth trying to clean it first. But if the fill-valve is around 10 years old, it's probably better to replace at least the top portion of it, so you won't have to revisit it for a long while. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Jesus Christ I had this problem for about a week and I didn’t even know where it was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from the ceiling. Me and my girlfriend were desperately trying to fix this issue when she bent over and heard it coming from the toilet so she opened the back of the toilet and there it was!!!! Our prayers were answered and we almost went insane. I can still here the noise in my head but it’s really not there that’s how insane it almost drove us.

    Took me weeks to realize that the whining sound was coming from my own toilet. For weeks, I was silently accusing my neighbor of using a Dremel, doing some kind of crafting project. :p

    Duuuude I was wondering where that awful noise was coming from, I looked everywhere and I even thought it was coming from the fire alarm. The noise was so loud it was driving me nuts. I later discovered it was coming from the toilet, after I flushed it, it stopped. All this was going on at 4 in the morning... 😒

    I like the video but, after I have installed the new "flush master" I hear the water escaping to the septic tank while the toilet tank is filling to the flush level. Why is that PLEASE?

    I have had to replace the valve several times over the course of 3 years. It will work fine for a while but then I have problems again. I just wonder if the entire toilet needs replacing?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you live in an area with hard water, the mineral deposits could be a problem for the valve. The only solution would be to install a whole-house water filter. But that's a pretty expensive fix.
      Or, sometimes, you could just flush impurities from the valve, as in the next video. th-cam.com/video/Xv3M6YSwEKw/w-d-xo.html

    I have no idea why you took that fill valve apart! So simple to just put in the whole new valve and then adjust fill level and then attach with nut.

  • @Poor_lil_Monkey

    I installed the exact one you show about 3 months ago and the flapper. But we had the city flush our lines last week and now mine whistles when filling. None of the other toilets do.
    When I turned all my water nozzles in the shower, toilet, and sink, they all spit air until it was out. So I’m thinking air is possibly trapped inside the filler somewhere.
    Any help?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A similar thing happened to me too, after this installation. Try flushing the fill valve as on the next video: th-cam.com/video/Xv3M6YSwEKw/w-d-xo.html

    Great vid! Do I need to buy same brand as toilet? Or is it a general part?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This Fluidmaster Fill-Valve fits on most toilets if you do full-installation.If your current fill valve looks the same as on this video, you should be able to replace just a TOP part. But if you have a different design like Ball-Cock you have to do a full installation. Brand of Fill-Valve doesn't matter.

    • @eawhite09

      what's odd with my situation is that it started once we got a new water heater...I thought maybe it was water pressure? But to get it to stop i just tap the float like your vid. But my toilet also has a fancy setup where it has 2 flush options...i worry ill mess it all up

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done any work on 2-flush systems, so you probably need to do some more research. Good luck!

    Fluidmaster's written instructions say DO NOT move the lock ring. Unfortunately for me, I followed this video and and ruined the new fill valve which would not work after I moved the lock ring attempting to save a step or two. I bought another fill valve, followed Fluidmaster's instructions in the box and things are fixed. Some commenters here say moving the lock ring worked for them. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

      Sorry to hear you had trouble with your fill-valve. I've replaced multiple valves this way and never had a problem with the lock ring. Just wondering what exactly happened with yours... couldn't slide the ring back on the locking position, or the water would not flow through the new valve?
