You need to have a conversation with your landlord. As a tenant, you deserve to have repairs made in a timely manner. Don't let landlord attitude keep you from asking for what you need. I am a landlady, and when they call, I'm on it the same day. Getting my rent and keeping my tenants is my priority, plus not relying on a tenant to try to fix what I am supposed to fix, with the result being they could do more damage by not doing it right, or the problem may be bigger than what the tenant thinks it is. Fixes need to be done right, and related issues need to be identified and fixed too.

These videos (and this overall formatting) is absolutely incredible. Cutting the back out of that tank was an awesome idea. I'm a student living in one of those overpriced housing complexes where "everything's included" and my toilet's been running for a little while (about every 5-10 min or so; you can hear the drips leading up to the sudden rush of water). The maintenance guy's a schmuck who doesn't know a socket from a screwdriver, so I repair virtually everything that goes wrong in the apartment myself (besides HVAC work involving anything more than condensate pan clearing and filter swaps). I just don't trust the guy to not make an absolute mess of the place.
Anyways, this video helped me not only fix the issue, but it also broke-down the process of how these systems work on a level that, as an engineering student, I found really interesting. Thanks for the quality content. You really know your stuff AND seem to genuinely enjoy teaching people about it! Subbed!

After watching your video, I was able to determine the cause of the problem and replaced the toilet fill value at a cost of just under $7.00. In a time like these when money is "tight", you saved me the cost of hiring a professional plumber...just the service call alone would have been $90.00 and that would not have included the part and installation charges. Thank you, kind sir!

Success! I simply had to adjust the fill valve level and it turned out ok. Might not be the long term solution but adjusting/fixing it myself saved so much money. I know TH-cam can get a bad rap sometimes but I've saved so much money in repairs thanks to videos like these. Thank you, Roger!

Thank you Roger! This is the in-depth, informative, educational video that I needed to get the job done. Thank you! You went above and beyond. For many, this would cost days waiting for a plumber to come out and charge hundreds. You allowed me (and others!) to save money and gain the confidence to fix another toilet. Just in time for Father's Day too, again thank you!

I hop on TH-cam and find your video. You literally saved the day. Although my toilet is older, I was able to find the blockage near filter causing the issue. Thank you so much!!! You are awesome.

Great help! After you showed me how to open the valve on top I was set. I didn’t drain the tank. Turned water off, dropped float, opened top of off valve. Sure enough, filled with grit. I used a compressed air can to blow the grit away. Worked perfect and now my toilet operates as it should! Thank you sir!

I am so happy that I found this video. I’m a former soldier from the British military, then when I came out of the military, I went into the corporate world of banking and finance, and then I became a coach.
I relocated from last year from Germany and took over my family house in the Caribbean, and both of my toilets were playing up with continuous running water, and the fill valve would not deactivate.
I was panicking, thinking that this was going to be horrendously expensive to be repaired, and at worst, I may even need two new toilets. However, I found this video.
I watched it and said to myself, “that’s too complicated for me I would never be able to do that”.
Two days later, I thought “what could go wrong”?
So step-by-step, I followed your instructions and hey presto, I have two perfectly functioning toilets, flushing better than ever.
Thank you so much for your guidance, please continue making videos giving such a value and I will make sure I share this on my corporate page.

I had a squealing noise coming from my fill valve whenever there was a change in pressure and started watching your videos. I watched the one on a running toilet and saw how to check/change the diaphragm. I shut off the valve, released the pressure by pushing down on the float, twisted and removed the diaphragm valve, put it back on, and the squeal is gone. Thanks so much for what you do, you're a life saver.

THANK YOU. You saved me desperately needed money and stress relief from this detailed video. Water line constantly has dirt grains from city flushing lines that clogs flush valves. The city no longer gives warnings so we can shut off water to prevent dirt in lines. So now we constantly have to clean all lines, valves, etc every time they clean lines. If not pay plumber to REPLACE parts which I discovered only needed cleaning.

Thank you so much Sir! My valve was a little more complicated than lifting and turning to release it, but your video gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to proceed and figure it out. After the valve was removed, I found a small chunk of rust that was preventing it from sealing fully. Removed that, reinstalled, problem solved! I thought for sure I would have to go to the hardware store and hope that I bought the right replacement valve assembly. Not necessary now.

Excellent tips Roger, this video saved me time and money! All I did was clean the diaphragm valve to remove dirt and then adjust the float cup 1/2” below the overflow tube to prevent water from running into it. For some reason the float cup was set above the overflow tube when tank was full so water was always flowing in. We’ve been turning off our basement toilet after each use for over two years now (it’s been an issue since we moved into the house). And it took all of 15mins (including watching the video) while my 7mo baby was sleeping!
