Chat GPT will save you these days the most simplest repairs are best found with openai. Check out the craziest issue I just shared. Lights flickering caused by a damn ninja coffee maker. Years of dealing with it. Twice had DWP come out thinking I've done everything else and it was possibly unbalanced loads on the main panel... Google had been useless and this time decided to use ChatGPT and it took me directly to someone who had an identical issue as I did. It's helped me so much. You can describe the littlest details of what you know.. It's like a sketch artist. It will give a result, then you can continue asking for improved results based on any additional info you provide
I just rinsed the rubber valve and all other pieces under the green cap you showed in the video under warm water and put them back. I didn't even need to order anything! Thanks Jeff!
Thanks, I googled Korky fill valve and your video popped up. Super easy to follow and cost $4.80 inc tax but best of all NO headache trying to replace the whole unit
TY! Saved me a ton of money. I didn't need a new valve. I cleaned out that part and a ton of crap (teeny pebbles) was in there. Put it all back together - done! 5 mins worth of time and free. Thanks again!
Thank you!!! We have an older Toto dual flush toilet with the green 528 fill valve. Took a bit to figure out what was going on since we weren't having the typical hissing noise. In our case, the water fill was stuttering on and off, which was then causing loud knocking in the wall. The Korky replacement cap cost $5 at my local True Value hardware store and was the perfect fit, and was so simple to follow your instructions - fixed it in about 2 minutes :-) The previous gasket had completely degraded and was in pieces. So much money saved not calling a plumber!
After playing with replacement valves and replacement caps and cleaning the filter, with varying success, I’ve learned that $9.88 (currently at Amazon) to just replace the entire unit is easiest. Turn off the water, flush, a few unscrew and screw back ins, and you’re done. No disassembly, no “will it work” after a fix, no “what fails next” in a few months.
I searched for leaking Toto toilet and found this video, watched it, ordered the part, replaced it following the exact steps and my toilet which has been hissing and charging my water bill for a year now is finally quiet. Thank you!🎉
Thank you! I've had that hiss for a while now and recently my toilet started taking longer to stop running. Yesterday it got to almost 10 minutes so I had to figure out what to do. Found the part at a local Ace Hardware for $5 after viewing your video and seeing the comments where to buy. Quick easy replacement just like the video and now everything functions as it should.
Appreciate you, sir!! Just wanted to say that I (like many commenters) inadvertently ended up fixing my toilet by taking one of the steps you showed here. After following your disassembly steps, I found that our green valve filter (?) was partially caked with brownish sediment. After cleaning it and putting the valve back together, our toilet water level is back up and flushing like new.
Thank you so much. I watched way to many videos and now I know how to completely install a toilet. But with you my friend I can actually fix my toilet instead of just using the hole where the toilet used to be
Thanks, Jeff.- great video! I didn't even buy a new flush valve. All I did was take everything apart. Rinse them off and put it back in again and it's working just like a champ, you were wonderful, thank you.
Thank you sooooo much for the video! I did go to Home Depot and Ace Hardware. Neither one of them had the valve part however, Amazon did and you are right very inexpensive. Again, thank you so much for sharing. My toilet is not hissing! Whoop whoo!!!!
Thank you so much Jeff! After watching this video, I went to Ace Hardware to buy the replacement cap, and was able to fix my toilet! No more hissing sound!
Jeff, you're fantastic! We, who are not fix-it kind of people at all, watched your video and fixed our running toilet for $6.60!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Just like to thank you for this tutorial...I see it is 4 years old, but it saved me! I had a gurgle sound coming from my TOTO, and when I followed your directions found that valve to have serious gaps in it. Had to order overnight from Amazon, but just installed it and voila! Back in business! Thank you very much!
You saved my day as my toto toilet is hard to unscrew flush valve (I do not understand why it is designed in such a way ). In order to change valve, you need to disasseble toilet from bottom first. Fortunately I saw your video and get it fixed by only chaging cap!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Perfect instructions! Simple, clear, and to the point. Thank you! I found the part on-line, got it at my door next day, and then it took me 30 seconds to replace. I will come back for other questions in the future, for sure!
Jeff Thanks so very much Watched the video Bought the $6.00 part Toilet fixed 15 minutes later Awesome dude Well done Your step by step directions were spot on Thanks again so very much
Got the part on Amazon for $7. Home Depot didn't have it. Perfect fix. Same toilet in other bathroom last year I called a plumber and also asked to fix dripping sink. $450 later sink still dripping. Shame I didn't see this last year and save. What a rip off some people are. Thank you Jeff!
I can't thank you enough...... I thought I would have to call a plumber but after watching your video, ordered cap off of Amazon, $7.99, I fixed in within 3 minutes. I can't believe how easy that was. Greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks for saving us a bunch of time and money! We couldn't get the fill hose to come off but were still able to pull the top off the unit, with a little effort. Thanks for your simple explanation and demonstration.
Worked great for a different problem: tank filled, stopped, then started filling again several times briefly before finally stopping. That rubber gasket was torn. Picked up the Korky R528 equivalent replacement at Menards ($3.49). Easy repair and it worked! Thanks for the video
Big thanks for the links! Saved me a lot a research time. The replacement cap fit more tight, but it works great. It's still a bummer to buy a full cap with valve, when all you need is just a rubber part! While removing the the hose I broke the nozzle on the cap, so I ended up using the advantage on new cap, but it doesn't mean that you have to buy so much to get so little.
Jeff, you saved my manly honor! I brought a Korky replacement valve and spent better part of the afternoon trying to install it, but water kept leaking everywhere until I realized that the bottom stem was too long for my rigid water line. So then I had no choice but to reinstall the old one and deal with the hissing. Almost threw in my water drenched towel and asked my brother-in-law, who’s much more handy, for help. But your video saved me! And now he will never know that I almost had to beg for his help!
Terrific video. Thx. The green cap I struggled with until I saw that when you put your right hand over the cap, at the bottom near your thumb is a small flap that if you pull forward with your thumb it releases the cap easily.
Thanks, Jeff! I just replaced the flush valve cap and now my Toto no longer hisses and leaks. Easy peasy and you saved me money to boot. Much appreciated.
our higher than usual water bill was the big motivator for getting this done. Found your video, then picked up the part at our local Ace hardware store (Korky Replacement Cap No.R528) for $5.50 and followed your instructions. Oops, forgot to check the filter - but the hissing leak is gone and peace is restored. Thanks!
Wow. Thank you Jeff! I first tried to replace the flapper gasket and that didn't work. I ordered the Korky fill valve replacement after seeing this video and no more no more running water in the tank. I had a plumber come and quoted me a replacement toilet installation for over $1k. Needless to say. I won't be calling him back.
Thank you! My toilet has been hissing intermittently almost since the day it was installed (6 months ago). I figured it was just a faulty factory part and went to Lowe's and picked up a replacement fill valve. It wasn't until I realized that I would need to disconnect the bidet as well and went looking for a video on that (I didn't install it so wasn't sure how to do that part). I have replaced plenty of toilet fill valves in my life but none attached to a bidet. I came across your video and figured I would try this first, as it is most likely the rubber seal you described, that is the problem. Five minutes and all set, thank you!
I never reply to vids - but like many have said, this not only worked, saved money, but more over save me a ton of time (especially if like me, you have a TOTO AQUIA 2 that requires a bigger tear down to replace the full filling value unit). BIG THANK YOU @JEFF
Thank you. You just helped me fix my toilet. The valve cap wasn't turned clockwise all the way so it was causing the floater to hit the side and not initiate the refill. Watching your video helped me to disassemble the valve and figure out what was going wrong. It's now flushing like a champ.
Still useful in late 2024! I fixed our 20-year-old Toto toilet. I am not a handy person at all, but this video is clear, short with perfect sound (i.e., it was obvious this hissing was what I could hear too). - Removing and putting the top cap was a bit challenging, but feel you way around and will find the holding tabs. - The floater valve was super easy to remove, thanks to the video - The valve assembly was the most challenging. It is as simple as the video shows, but mine was stuck. I had to use pliers, for more torque - On my old toilet, the hose was stiff. I used a hair dryer to soften the end before connecting it to the new valve assembly
This 2:42 mins video probably saved me $125-150 in plumber cost ... more importantly I was not able to get one for 3-4 days. Original part was $9. Job done in less than 5 minutes. Thanks a lot Jeff!!
Thank you. You saved me the a lot of money and trouble. I was going to replace both the fill valve and flush valve, plus put in a new gasket between the toilet base and back. I bought a Korky Quietfill Fill Valve replacement cap at RONA for about $6.00 cad.
Thank you so much for such a clear, fast and informative video! Was able to easily replace the top cap & valve much to the surprise of my husband. I'm in the US, so your tip to buy the part at Ace Hardware paid off too. Double thanks!
Thanks Jeff. Was ready to order the complete fill valve before watching your video. Got the original part from Amazon (a little pricier that what you mentioned). After the first try I still had a problem, but I figured it out. In the case of my valve, the diaphragm had deteriorated so bad, that there were small pieces of it stuck to the diaphragm seat. Once I cleaned of all of that thoroughly from the seat, the fill valve was fixed. Also I have very hard water. That green cap was coated with white mineral deposits and was stuck in place -- took a little effort to remove it. Anyway this is just a heads up to others repairing the Toto fill valve. My Toto toilet model number, fyi is ST243E.
Thanks to guys like you and videos like yours ... for $7 we have a "silent and working" toilet. PLUS .. you even gave me the part to buy at Rona (in Canada0
Thanks, Jeff. I had that exact problem and that exact fix did the trick. The part was about $7 Canadian at my local Rona. The Korky brand part for their universal fill valve is the exact same part for the Original Toto brand GMax fill valve.
I had the right part but your video gave me more confidence in disassembly. Thanks! The outflow bit broke off in the hose when I pulled it off and I couldn’t get it out, but fortunately there was enough slack for me to cut a quarter inch off and still have it fit.
Wow! This was awesome. Fixed in 5 minutes! BTW: Our toilet wasn't hissing/leaking, it was filling in an on-off sort of fashion, with water spurting out the top of the plastic piece.
Thank you! Fixed mine in 10 minutes, had a small panic moment when I saw the water overflowing but fixed it pretty quickly rewatching how to lock the mechanism.
Jeff, you are the man! Thank you for this video. It worked for me too. I didn’t see your video until after I spent $25 on a replacement, but you saved me from needing to swap out the entire device. Cheers!
Thank you Jeff- Your video made it easy to fix the loud hissing sound. Turns out it was just the filter (I didn't know my toto came with a filter). You're awesome!
Thank you! In my case, it was making hissing noise and water was continuously flowing. All I had to do is follow your instructions and just clean everything out. I didn’t had to replace anything! Once I put back everything together, the hissing sound stopped!
This saved me not just $20 but lots of hassle. We have a skirted toilet and the nut the attaches the supply line to the fill valve is impossible to reach by hand. Replacing the whole fill valve would probably require unmounting the toilet. So.... THANK YOU for sharing this info!
.....just completed the job myself...it was quite difficult to remove that top cap which was concerning....I thought I was going to crack or break it but I squeezed it a couple of times and twisted ever so slightly and it eventually disengaged....but it definitely wasn't so nicey nice as shown in the video....but the rest of the job was as smooth as silk....ty for the video...I'm a new subscriber
Thank you!! I've had to replace the whole thing before on a different toilet but this is SO much easier. Not to mention cheaper and faster! Thanks again!
The Korky R528 Replacement Cap from Ace HW did the trick for me. On the back it says fits Toto too. $3.99. Thanks for the quick fix. I was thinking it was a leaky flapper instead.
The rubber seal on mine was cracked near the edge. Local Home Depot didn't have the cap - just the whole mechanism for $26.99. However our friendly neighborhood Ace did stock it - $4.99. Thanks!
Not only does Home Depot not have the part, Lowes wants 30.00 for it. At the Toto Parts store, it IS 5.00 but cheapest shipping is 21.00! Amazon is the way to go. 7.00. Thank you for the video!!!!
Thank you! We get really hard water out here. I took it apart per your instructions (tough because of all the hard water) and rinsed everything out and put it back. May have to replace the cap in the near future but for now it stopped the hissing!
I was wondering why my water bill went from around $180 per month to $320 over the past couple of months. Thanks for the video on how to replace the worn valve!
Thank you so much for this tutorial Jeff!! My Toto toilet is maybe one and a half years old and started hissing about 2 weeks ago and so annoying because it's so close to the master bedroom. I took all of the components apart on the left side rinsed them under hot water put them back together no more hiss.. so I did not have to replace any components but will know what to do if in the future the hissing doesn't stop after rinsing the components at least I know what valve to purchase.. Thank you TH-cam and Jeff 😊
Glad it worked! I had cleaned mine all out with vinegar a couple times and even tried some silicon lubricant but once the gasket was dried out it need the replacement :)
@@JeffMikolajow thanks, and I did not use vinegar, I only rinsed with water, but if it happens again, I will rinse using vinegar, I do have super hard water in my home :)
Plumbers said we needed a whole new toilet, but me and my grandpa found your video and fixed it no problem. Thanks a ton.
Amazing! Easy fix, seems to be getting harder to find the cap. Cheers!
New toilet?!?!?! Questionable plumbers...

Excellent!
Thank you for sharing! As a 70 year old woman, I found it easy to fix my toilet! Bless you!
You are so welcome!
I just rinsed the rubber valve and all other pieces under the green cap you showed in the video under warm water and put them back. I didn't even need to order anything! Thanks Jeff!
Great tip!
Thank you Jeff, this video is still helping people in June 2023!!!
Thanks, I'm glad it helped you! Seems people still like simple and to the point 😃
Thanks! Was able to just buy the piece on-line ($8), not the whole assembly, and changed it in 5 minutes. Really appreciate that you posted this.

I am not a handy person at all, but this video is clear, short with perfect sound (i.e., it was obvious this hissing was what I could hear too).

- The floater valve was super easy to remove, thanks to the video
- The valve assembly was the most challenging. It is as simple as the video shows, but mine was stuck. I had to use pliers, for more torque
- On my old toilet, the hose was stiff. I used a hair dryer to soften the end before connecting it to the new valve assembly
Had to order the part off Amazon Home Depot, True Value didnt have it. Got the part for $10 fixed the problem no problems now. Thanks
can you post a link to the part?
Thanks Jeff. This is exactly what I needed. Minerals from our well had clogged the filter
Jeff - thanks for your help. Fixed the toilet easily and for under $10!

Thanks Jeff! Just fixed mine as well following your video. Took a little trial and error but got it working.
Thanks for the video. I did it in less than 5 mins thx to you! I just cleaned my cap off and replaced and so far no hissing!
Nice work!
THANK YOU! YOU PROB JUST SAVED ME $300. This worked the 1st time.
🤘 Yes!
Great video! Easy to understand and easy to follow. Made my toilet repair quick and cheap.
Thanks, Jeff. I had that exact problem and that exact fix did the trick. The part was about $7 Canadian at my local Rona. The Korky brand part for their universal fill valve is the exact same part for the Original Toto brand GMax fill valve.

Worked perfectly. Could not find the part in a store, but found it online.
This fixed my hissing problem and was so cheap! Five bucks! Thanks for the clear instructions!
You're welcome! 🚽
Thanks Jeff. Now I can finally get that thing to stop wasting water.
Thank you! In my case, it was making hissing noise and water was continuously flowing. All I had to do is follow your instructions and just clean everything out. I didn’t had to replace anything! Once I put back everything together, the hissing sound stopped!
Perfect! I do this to mine a couple times a year to keep it working properly - they're always covered in a bit of mineral deposits.

Thanks Jeff. You saved me time and money.
The Korky R528 Replacement Cap from Ace HW did the trick for me. On the back it says fits Toto too. $3.99. Thanks for the quick fix. I was thinking it was a leaky flapper instead.
Fantastic! Thanks for the part #
Thanks for a useful, well made video! It turned out with mine that there was a bit of gunk that just needed to be rinsed off, no replacements needed!
Awesome! Yes, I open this up and clean it out every 6 months or so as it tends to get clogged.
The rubber seal on mine was cracked near the edge. Local Home Depot didn't have the cap - just the whole mechanism for $26.99. However our friendly neighborhood Ace did stock it - $4.99. Thanks!
Thank you Jeff. Worked perfectly- once I found Korky part.
Amazing tip! Saved me from replacing the entire unit!
Glad it helped!
Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out how to take this apart, and you explained it perfectly!
Thank you Jeff, this saved us so much time & trouble.
Thanks Jeff! This was a quick, easy & cheap fix for my Toto toilet! 👍👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you! So easy to fix thanks to your video. Most likley saved me a couple hundred bucks for a plumber to come out.
Awesome! Glad it worked. Cheers.
Thanks! This was exactly what was wrong with mine. Took two minutes to repair it!
That's awesome, Jeff!
Thanks a bunch ($25 USD worth!) for this useful video. I had a similar problem and a new cap fixed it right up.
Excellent!
Thanks for the clear instructions--I was able to fix mine this morning.
Fantastic!
I was wondering why my water bill went from around $180 per month to $320 over the past couple of months. Thanks for the video on how to replace the worn valve!
Thanks, this exactly what I'm looking for and saves me $20.
Glad to see it worked for you, Louis!
Very helpful! Thank you! 6 year old Toto just started hissing!
Mine wasn't filling the bowl fully. I replaced the valve as you showed and it's great now. Thanks
Jeff, I have three of these little buggers, and NO FEAR ! Thanks
Thanks for the video, Jeff. I ended up just buying the whole assembly, but it showed exactly what we needed to do.
yes it is and I'm glad to run across your video. Thanks for posting this!
My wife was able to fix our leak by herself for $5 thanks to you. She says your video was masterfully done. Bravo!
So glad to hear!
Thanks! Fix worked like a charm.
Great to hear!
Very helpful video.
