from experience, don't put your things in that coast guard bag. everyone brings those and when they get thrown in a pile hardly anyone finds their own. bring something that you could spot in seconds. trust me lol
@@Uscgbibblethat’s how it worked when I went to boot camp in the Air Force. They issued us all our clothing (to include underwear, t-shirts, sox, and even handkerchiefs--all made by the federal prison industries) What they didn’t issue they took us to the exchange to buy with the $50 advance they gave us. Everything we brought with us was taken away and stored until we finished training.
Things have certainly changed. When I went to boot camp we didn’t pack anything. Just show up. What they don’t issue they’ll take you to the exchange to buy: and they gave us a $50 advance to do that.
When I shipped out to Cape May we were told to bring one change of clothes and our toilettes and that was it. The third full day we were given our uniforms and a sewing kit. We had to hem our blue work pants by hand - the type you see in WW2 movies. Then we were marched into a large room in front of several rows of tables that had a 12" x 12"x 12" shipping boxes. We were told to strip naked and ship everything home. The only thing that a person could kept was their eyeglasses and a wedding ring if marred. Then you were given a ditty bag that had all govt issued toilettes, Ivory soap only( no hair no shampoo), razors, tooth brush and toothpaste , ect. What was really back was we were charged $40 dollars for it and we were paid $97.50/mo as a E-1. Mike - 68 P.S. This is my wife's e-mail.
Hey bud, I'm shipping out next month. Thanks for this video, it's helps to be able to see this! Now that you're back, is there anything you took that you ended up not needing or anything that you wish you brought more of? Thanks!
My son leaves on Monday for Cape May. His list of approved items doesn't mention shower shoes or shampoo/body wash. Anything else he should know? I think I'm more nervous than he is. 😂😭
Bridgette Jensen shower shoes will be issued so he doesn't need them, I'd recommend shampoo, and body wash all in ones are easier and save time later in boot camp he'll be able to buy more from the exchange on base
Is all of this actually necessary? Obviously it would help but I was under the impression that you pretty much get issued everything or you can buy stuff up there
I thought they provided you with everything? I was watching other videos that said your civilian stuff gets taken and they give u PT uniforms, toothbrush, shoes, sandals, etc.
Branden Vigil They do provide with you with some items but there are items you should take with you or else you will be stuck buying everything when you arrive at basics. There’s a list of what you should bring and what not to bring on the usgc website
Hey I hope you're still active on this! Couple of questions, I ship out for boot April 24th from Pcola, Florida. Did any of those shampoos or razors get confiscated on the plane? I never have ridden on a plane before and I hear they're strict about that. 2: did you just bring your coast gaurd bag your recruiter gave you and were you able to fit all that stuff in the bag/leave it ? 3: I thought the only bag you're allowed to bring is the coast guard bag you're recruiter gave you? I'm reading comments of people bringing duffle bags etc? 4: would I possibly get in trouble if I put masking tape on the side now with my name on it to mark it before I head to Cape May? Thanks!
james could hello hello sure am, nice.. wait no way im stationed out of NAS Pensacola. my razors were okay the shampoo was okay on the flight but not at bootcamp because they didn't know what could of been in it so it was stored with the bag. Yes, the bag was perfect i recommend a weird tape color/ pattern because most people bring it. For bags i just brought 1, no that is perfect
USCG Mason dope man! As stated before I live in Pcola! Follow my Instagram page @thebarbercorner1 and pm me! I had the option to choose hawaii but I chose Virginia because I have family over there. But every Coastie I've met says Pcola is "Station Vacation" but I've been to the station in Miami and that one is like pure heaven. Thanks for the tips!
Samuel Licon If you haven't gotten anything back yet, you cannot wait around for a Coast Guard recruiter. An application won't do. Call the recruiting center and get things started, they want to see just how interested you are. Hope that helps
Yep, when you arrive you are told to call your parents to say you made it then it's stored till the weekend of week 6 and 7 then you have it the last night of bootcamp
Good luck to everyone shipping out.
And to you! Semper Paratus! 👍

Are there rules on what kind of duffel bags you can bring? Also, couldnt you just tag your name on the CG bag to make it easier to find?

The military requires you to shave every day. No shadows. Bring what you think you need as required by your branch of service.

when you sent your application in how long did your recruiter take to get in contact with you?

Hey I am confused about civilian clothes do we bring extra civilian clothes or not
Mobtown Jacob you can bring a couple sets one to wear there one for the trip home
