Rafa Saji awesome indeed, but if you want more like playing in the style of John, check Dave Simpson's channel, he has a playlist on how to play like John Frusciante.
This is a gorgeous song. The sheer GENIUS of Frusciante is in his ability to weave a symphony of VERY simple guitar parts into a glorious movement, each little element contributes so much to the whole and it creates a delicate melodic movement that is so much more than the sum of its parts. It's actually an extremely simple pop song (verse C-D-E, C-D-E, chorus G-D-Em-C) but his brilliant arrangement gives it depth, emotion, and beauty that is like nothing else. Of course Flea's plodding baseline helps too. But yeah... Love this song, love the Chilis, just a great compostion and fine example of John's ability to take simple phrases and weave them into a beautiful guitar sound thats both unique and expressive. Good video too! Nicely demonstrated.
Outstanding. This is probably my favourite song of theirs and I hear they don’t do it live very often due to its complexity. Take a bow sir you nailed this.
Sir, what a wonderful job you have done on this, thank you very much, I am just starting out recently and applaud you for spending the time to do this, GOD bless you.
Thoroughly enjoy this lesson: Easy to read and practice playing along at slow speed. Questionable eye sight and slowing down come with age I guess. lol
Indeed they are. A triad is the smallest chord you can play, consisting of the first (root), third and fifth note of the respective scale. The first triad he plays, fretting 12 all across the first 3 strings, is an Em triad, consisting of the notes E (first), G (third) and B (fifth) of the Em scale. There are many ways to play triads but the most common way (and the way John usually does/did it) is by fretting any of the common major or minor barré shapes (E major and minor, A major and minor) and picking across the first three strings. In the case of the Em in the beginning you could technically play a regular Em shaped barré chord at the 12th fret (So an octave from the open Em) but a triad gives a sense of harmony of the the rhythm or what the bass is playing and is less "full". In this song the first Guitar plays Em (Em shape at 12th fret) to D Major (E Major shape at the 10th fret) to a different voicing of Em (same chord, different position) as an Am shaped barré with its root on the 7th fret. Oh and on a side note, technically most of these triads are what you call chord inversions. Em/G for example because the G is the lowest note in the chord, instead of the root note. Sorry if you didn't care about any of this, in parts I just wanted to see if I could get this together myself because I only started playing a while ago so maybe take it with a grain of salt as well :D
Marcel Riemer No..No. I appreciate that entire explanation. In my journey of trying to learn theory, I can tell you that I understood 100% of what you said. Thank you very much.
So this is why we don't see it live..even with the loops live just ain't going to work all the time. Is this why we don't see dosed live as much ? The different guitar parts would have to be looped correct ? And live that ain't really easy being way this is.
i didn't realize this song was like every single frusciante technique/style in one song
Lol

Very observant haha! Arpeggio triads, strummed triads, simple pentatonic riffs and what else?

Are the 1st two things you added to the loop from guitars 1 and 2 called "triads"?

Subbed. Is there a way to play it on one guitar or using a looper? It might be worth having a Skype session to work it out.
Thank you! Probably not the whole song. But definitely you can play the intro using a looper
