This video is so awesome! Thank you so much for making it! Frusciante is one of the best guitar players ever in my opinion. He is criminally underrated!
i feel like john frusciante prefers the easy and melodic riffs, but every once in a while he pulls up a jimmy hendrix out of his sleeve to make sure people understand it's a choice hahah
"Can't Stop" encouraged me to pick up a guitar at seven. I'm twenty-five now. John is my number one guy ever, hands down. I've dissected every album to feature him in my young adult life. In high school, BSSM was 90% of what I listened to back and forth to school and work. But there's something about the riff to "Dani California" that just clicks for me. Relatively simple when you look at the chords, it just drives home how important rhythm playing is, it's all in the hands. And then to climax with such a killer solo. It's, to me, what guitar playing is all about. And like the top comment on this video says, I too cannot wait to see what he has in store for round three.
@@EnterJustice and it's such a stupid thing to do. If I want to hear Scar Tissue, I'm not going to come to this video just to listen to someone play the intro. But if I've never heard Scar Tissue before, watched this video and liked the sound of the riff, I'd go look for the original to hear the rest. It's just good publicity to let people do covers.
It's ok even if you tune your guitar correctly you won't get the same sound 😂 It was argued whether it was tuning issue or recording issue but turned out John tuned it with intent.
@@ashcrimsonl I saw a video on this. Apparently, one of the strings (forgot which) was tuned a little flat because it sounded actually more in "tune" with the song. It's not actually too difficult to replicate the tuning if you do it by ear instead of those electronic tuners.
I love how in the Mothers Love era John kinda followed the trend at the time: high gain guitars (he played ibanez at the time) with heavy overdrive, even the production of the records. Then in BSSM he went off and found his signature sound (single coils and with less overdrive) and just developed from that through the years. Even crazier to think that he was just 20-21 years old at the time and his sound is instantly recognizable and distinct from everyone else.
@Luke uh, alternative picking for scar tissue is difficult and I've been playing for a while, snow is one of the most difficult riffs for a guitarist. this would take a new guitarists possibly months
His rythm playing is what makes it difficult to replicate his songs. As a lead, he's also great, he was a great tapper back in the day (im pretty sure he still does) and his alternate picked scale runs (ex. The last lick on Dani California Solo) are also very impressive and wild.
Nothing but love for this video, Nikola! ❤ The quintessential RHCP riffs in one take ❤ Thank you so much for this and for all your hard work! Stay safe and well 🙏
@@nikolagugoski hello my friend how you doing? Hope well. I have a sugest for you: in your lessons you could spot the key, it'd be great, like in dani california we've 3 different tones. Thank you very much for your nice work, i've learned so much from u.

Frusciante gets a very clear top end to his tone by splitting off a DI and mixing it in. A lot of his clean sounds are just DI and he's driving an analog console to get some edge. It's a big part of how he and Flea mix their tones so well. Often they are both going DI, leaving space in the lower mids where the two amps would otherwise compete. It's something to experiment with if you want to nail his sound.

His solo stuff is great too. So much songs from him.
This is probably the best summary I've ever seen of John Frusciante
Snow is not easy riff bro, it’s one of the hardest ones 😅
Absolutely. The man can absolutely shred when he wants
@@toguedani9673 Who said anything about Snow
You never realize how much Flea’s bass playing compliments the riffs until it’s absent
The same way you dont realize how much RHCP lost its soul until John goes missing. Good music still? Sure, but Johns guitar is the backbone.
Otherside exemplifies this
@@GenjiroKibigami That's right, Flea and John complete each other and i think they should kiss, in his essay i will-

Completely agree, I had BSSM in my CD tray and it never came out
You know your playing is spot on when they copyright claim your cover
They've been copyright claiming covers for a while now. Damn shame.

Ah, John Frusciante. The number one reason players give for buying a sunburst strat.
I personally love the turquoise strat and the seafoam green one
@FeS FeO2 that's also a beautiful colour. I forgot to mention, the Daphne Blue Strat is also ever so lovely
Haha, it’s true, though. He’s why I bought mine, lol.

Exactly
Damn, you must've been practicing for years on these riffs because this is some clean shit right there. Love you, man.
"Knock Me Down" is still my favorite RHCP song. I'm old, I guess.
Nope, you got good ears. And you know what music is about !
🤜🏻🤛🏻
Sound a bit like a page riff... 🤘
Totally agree! After One Hot Minute they got mainstream anyway!
Same here!
I’m 27 and it’s in my top 5 for sure
So looking forward to what John will do in round three.
Ed Mathews I can’t wait, hope corona at least brought them more time to compose new music
Apparently he's been heavily into UK Drum and Bass the past few years 🤣I am absolutely buzzing at the idea of a 174bpm Chad John Flea madness 🕺🕺🕺
so do I, dude
Tom Brunyee oh, you want flea and John at 174 bpm? TH-cam search "John flea Omar". Thank me later...

He only followed the trend on Mother’s Milk ‘cause Michael Beinhorn, who produced that album, insisted on John having a metal guitar tone
His lick is not difficult to play but difficult to create, he is creative guitar player, I love RHCP era with him
Not difficult? Please. His phrasing, chord shapes and runs are challenging.
@Luke uh, alternative picking for scar tissue is difficult and I've been playing for a while, snow is one of the most difficult riffs for a guitarist. this would take a new guitarists possibly months
I agree with you *mostly* cuz some songs with alternative picking are pretty hard but are really easy if you fingerstyle those riffs.
Their licks are very easy to play it.. wrong. He got a technique that is kind of unique.
