Kareem only played 18 seasons. He DID in fact score a 3 pointer late in his career - on something like 17 attempts - but that's not enough to have a serious impact on your slightly exaggerated claim. If you look at Kareem's ranking on Points Per Game, it's barely Top 20 - still impressive, but not "the best". He's not even in the RUNNING on most rebounds, 4'th all time despite playing 5 MORE SEASONS than Wilt or Bill Russell and a TON more games - his RPG is only 25'th all time. If blocks had been tracked for the entire career of Bill and Wilt and Kareem and Nate Thurmond, Kareem would AT BEST be 3'd way behind Wilt and Bill, and while he'd be ahead of Hakeem he might also be BEHIND Nate - but again, MORE GAMES AND MORE YEARS his BPG ranking was notably lower. Kareem in the Top 5 is debateable - he's got a good case for it, but there are 9 or 10 players that have a good case for it. Top 10 I believe to be unquestionable. Shaq is NOT a Top 10 player IMO, he's a little OUTSIDE of that ranking. Same for Isiah Thomas and the Doctor and Scottie - though they might be better "fit" with some other "best players". The late Jack Ramsey once had a personal stat tracker and after the game his stat guy recorded Wilt with 25 block shots in one game.

Kareem was awesome. Really one of the Greats!!!! Unfortunately, not a guard. He was dependent on his guards to feed him. He could never just take over a game by himself. That's why Jordan is the greatest. Jordan has the unstoppable fade away, like Kareems sky hook. But Jordan was the leader and floor general. He was in control of the ball. He wasn't dependent on anyone else. Not Kareems fault of course but it's the difference.

@@truthseekerv1318 of course not. Centers in his time growing up & throughout his career would have never been allowed to bring up the ball to initiate offense. @@tyjohnson3111 Kareem is #2 on "most games played" - including postseason. Robert Parrish is #1 by a few games. Kareem is, for example, about 17'th (from memory, I might be off a spot or two) on the all time "career points per game" list - but when you factor in how many games he played, you get the all-time points leader. Only Wilt and MJ were a LOT higher on PPG (there is a huge group of players around 24-25 ppg, Wilt and MJ were both a hair over 30) but Wilt only played 13 years and MJ 14 or 15. Longevity MATTERS on those "totals" lists, and Kareem is VERY VERY high on the longevity lists (both in years played, and a hair more so on number of games played) - and having been on teams that routinely made DEEP playoff runs also helps. Wilt also loses a little 'cause the playoffs had fewer rounds AND fewer games in early rounds than during Kareem's career.

Just a few things here. Kareem was all NBA 2nd team 5 times in his career Won a ring his second year 1971 in the league but never got another ring until 1980 when he paired up with Magic and Worthy two other hall of famers. Now that is a long time between rings. Lead the league twice in scoring in 20 years and only lead the league once in rebounding and was 6 time mvp of the league which was 5 times in the 70's and only once in the 80's. Lets be real as we all know or should know that the NBA was for sure the weakest era of the NBA in the 70's. So again Kareem was a great player but his wins and stats speak more to longevity and not dominance and only being able to win one rings in 11 years before he one and one in 1980 when hooking up two hall of famer doesn't show he was dominate at all but rather good for a long time. Sorry but the truth is the truth. The man entered the league in 1969 and only won one ring until 1980 thanks to Magic and truthfully I think Magic would of won without Kareem because Kareem was not dominate on those teams in the 80's but he was good Here is a test for all, the greatest centers of all time played against who? Russell played against Wilt and Wilt played against Russell and Kareem but..... Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Ewing,, Matumbo played against each other. So tell me who else was Russell's competing in the 60's beside Wilt and Wilts competition beside Russell's and Kareem but in the 90's Shaq, Ewing, Hakeem and Robinson all had to play against each other and a few other hall of fame center. People never question the competition at the center postion Wilt, Kareem and Russell played against in the 60's and 70's
To me, Isaiah Thomas is just a snake. The guy at one point in time called Jordan the goat. (I believe it was after MJ’s 2nd retirement when he won his 2nd 3-peat). Now at that point Kareem had retired for close to 10 years. If Isaiah really believe that Kareem is the GOAT, the argument would have been made and settled at that time ( when Both men won 6 rings , MJ by his 2nd retirement had 5 MVPs VS. Kareem’s 6 MVPs , MJ had 6 FMVPs vs Kareem’s 2 FMVP). Yet Thomas decided to go with Jordan as the GOAT when MJ was at the height of his powers and popularity after winning his 6th championship in one of the most dramatic fashion in NBA history. Then years later, once Lebron came up and started winning Championships, Thomas was quick in switching his view in favor of Lebron being the GOAT ( especially when Lebron won his 3rd chip by beating the 73-win warriors in 2016). Since then Lebron has lost a few finals (to the warriors )and had a few disappointing post season appearances ( not making the playoffs in 2019 and going out in the first round 2021) The argument for Lebron being the GOAT over Jordan had somewhat died down in the last few years ( too many finals losses in a softer era where stats are over inflated due to rules change and a much faster pace) Nowadays, instead of hyping up Lebron, Thomas has changed his stance once again and reverts back to claim Kareem as the GOAT. Isaiah is basically willing to elevate and hype up anyone who is worthy of the GOAT considerations over Jordan. The guy is basically incapable of giving Jordan credits when credit is due. He’s still harboring a lot of hate on Jordan because it was Jordan and the Bulls that dethroned the Isaiah lead Detroit Pistons. It was also Jordan who was blamed for Thomas not making the Dream team. IT is still bitter about these old beef with Jordan, especially after the last dance documentary came out which didn’t paint him nor the Pistons in a positive light. Heck, the Pistons bad boys in the late 80s was playing dirty. They were playing football and wrestling while other tried to play basketball. They were a bunch of dirty players on that team whom by today’s standards and rules would get ejected in the first 5 minutes of the 1sr quarter. If those bad boy Pistons played in today’s league, half of that roster would probably be suspended for the entire season for getting so many Technical and flagrant fouls called on them. Yet Thomas seems to be quite proud of his bad boy days and the way they roughed up and beat up Jordan. I have no respect for a player like Isaiah Thomas, the guy is basically a sore loser and while he often gives his professional opinions as an NBA analyst, there was never any no objective insights he can offer when it comes to the topic of Michael Jordan.

For reference, Vince Carter DID play in 4 different decades, but only 1 season in the first and 2 or 3 seasons in the last - but that was all about TIMING on *his* 23 season career.

I think you are on the right track for me I think Kareem is the most accomplished player in basketball history when you look at his overall career high school at Power Memorial High School city Championships 2 city player of the year awards at UCLA 3 NCAA Championships (first school to do so) 3 Final Four MOPs (the only player to so) NBA 6 Championships 6 time NBA MVP ( only player to have 6) 2 time Finals MVP (in 1985 at age 38 the oldest player to do so) so when you look at his career no other player has those types of accomplishments
When you can wear your rings on more than one hand. That's ELITE company.
His greatest accomplishment is 2 Finals MVP....14 yrs apart.
When you need every finger on both hands, that's ALMOST unique.
2 players with THAT claim - Bill Russell with 11 (who won MORE championships than Kareem, at one MORE level (Olympic Gold)), and Bill's long-time teammate Sam Jones with 10.

BTW - Kareem's all-time points record is likely to fall soon - to a player that will have more seasons played at that point, Lebron.

The only reason Kareem developed the "sky hook" is that dunks were ILLEGAL while he was in college.

Would've had an Olympic Gold Medal too, but he boycotted! Wish he was on the Dream Team.
Picking mom up at LAX after her China trip. Kareem walks quickly out of terminal into a waiting limo.

Kareem was all NBA 2nd team 5 times in his career
Won a ring his second year 1971 in the league but never got another ring until 1980 when he paired up with Magic and Worthy two other hall of famers. The man entered the league in 1969 and only won one ring until 1980 thanks to Magic and truthfully I think Magic would of won without Kareem because Kareem was not dominate on those teams in the 80's but he was good
Here is a test for all, the greatest centers of all time played against who?
Russell played against Wilt and Wilt played against Russell and Kareem but..... Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Ewing,, Matumbo played against each other. So tell me who else was Russell's competing in the 60's beside Wilt and Wilts competition beside Russell's and Kareem but in the 90's Shaq, Ewing, Hakeem and Robinson all had to play against each other and a few other hall of fame center. People never question the competition at the center postion Wilt, Kareem and Russell played against in the 60's and 70's
Jordan is the goat 🐐
Overrated Sell out
Kareem>MJ
Is ring chasers a scam please tell me
To me, Isaiah Thomas is just a snake.
Since then Lebron has lost a few finals (to the warriors )and had a few disappointing post season appearances ( not making the playoffs in 2019 and going out in the first round 2021)
The argument for Lebron being the GOAT over Jordan had somewhat died down in the last few years ( too many finals losses in a softer era where stats are over inflated due to rules change and a much faster pace)
Nowadays, instead of hyping up Lebron, Thomas has changed his stance once again and reverts back to claim Kareem as the GOAT.

He couldn't shoot against the Bullets in round 2 and the Knicks lost in 7. It was the only time the Bullets beat the Knicks in 6 playoff series in those years. The Bullets went on to play the Bucks in the finals and were defeated. A healthy Reed and the Knicks play in the 1971 finals and Alcindor/Jabbar would have had no NBA titles until he played with Magic in 1979.
Reed was a two time NBA finals MVP so stop your nonsense. If you think 6 and 15 is good so be it. I think 6 wins and 15 losses sucks and that is a fact. Willis Reed won 15 of 21 games against Lew Alcindor/Kareem Jabbar!
@@jacksmith5692 A lot of ifs and ifs. Ifs just don't count.
@@alokobaju8288 6 and 15 against Willis Reed and seeing how great Reed played Alcindor in the 1970 playoffs at under 6'9" is not a if and neither is Reed being a two time finals MVP or averaging 32 and 15 in the first four games of the 1970 finals against Wilt before his early game 5 leg injury. No if's there, all facts my friend!
This man…said Willis Reed.
Listen, Willis Reed isn’t in the same breath as Kareem as an individual player. Case closed

Kareem>MJ
Kareem had the greatest basketball career of all time.
Kareem is not the greatest player, Kareem was only the best player in 2 of of his 6 Championships.
He was better than Magic in 1980 we all know that through the first 5 games.
Carried his team to the Finals in 1974 with Oscar on his legitimate last legs.
Played through a merger & integration of the 3PT line.
Arguably the greatest 2-way player ever.
Need I say more?

Was Kareem better than Wilt?!!
It's a matter of opinion, I think there about equal in skill
There both top ten all-time greats, I'm not sure who's better but I think they were both great
Yes, easily
12/25/21
In my opinion lebron is not number 2,kareem is the number 2
He is the GOAT if u think about it compare him the Jordan both have 6 rings Kareem is the greatest scorer ever no one could ever stop the sky hook Jordan only had his athletic ability which most nba players already had. Kareem is the GOAT looking at the numbers
Clown 🤡 the is a reason why he is always left out in the conversation
Skyhook just that, Dude can’t even jump
How many finals MVP out of the six finals
He won 2 meaning 4 times in the final one particular guy was better than him
You can’t say that about Jordan
He was everything you need to cheat to win something or he is taking everything
