Meanwhile, the Light and Void are fighting constantly in the background. Sure, the ASGs (Alien Scaly Goats) mostly becoming demons courtesy of Demon Galactus didn't help, but there was already plenty of fighting, before even the beginning of his Burning Crusade.
If a race get to much Power some of them get obsessed, same with Nightelf (Quel'dorei)

I remember back in 2004 playing warcraft 3 and I was traumatised seeing Archimonde’s cinematic of destroying Dalaran with just a chant.
They did him dirty in WoW!
The sandy destruction isnt it. Oh boi i remember watching that countless times as a child. That burn into my mind and turn me into a mage. That why i play mage in all games still XD
That shit was scary, imagine you are just some resident who is trying to survive after the attack of the scourge and all of sudden one tower just randomly collapses. You'd assume it is a mage, but you have no idea of who or where he is all the while people are dying or getting hurt. Then all of sudden the rest of the city crumbles.
And that is why I main Paladin. people think nowadays that the good righteous warrior of the light is corny and think evil shit is cool. but thats because they havent seen TRUE evil. Ive seen true evil. there is nothing cool about it. That is why i will always walk the path that fights against it. no matter how many scoff, i will remain as the light in the darkness, even when all other lights fade.

Fantasy is a powerful tool and does have a greater impact in the real world than we would imagine, yet, it is not seen as something dangerous when we use it to subvert values that are objectively good for all humans.

Technically, half the things we thought were "Legion's fault" two expansions ago, can now be shifted to "Jailer's fault" or "Void Lords' fault".
9.1 datamining basically points all the blame to Sire Denathrius and the Jailer. Basically.

The capitol would have been a fully repaired flying Exodar instead of a portion of the Exodar’s parts turned into a small ship that doesn’t require a Naaru
I used to look at Velen as the least interesting leader, but after this I honestly see him as one of the better just for his not being fooled by vanity and power over essentially selling their souls.
Velen is a pretty complicated character all things considered. He had to deal with the knowledge that having his people take refuge on various planets would turn those planets into big targets for the Legion, specifically Kil'jaeden, to attack. He used his faith in the Light and "destiny" to deal with his increasingly guilty conscience, somehow trying to justify all the deaths that happened by following the path of fate.
That's also why in Legion Illidan heavily berates and criticises Velen since he unlike Velen was someone who constantly defied his destiny, i.e. by carving out his golden eyes (a sign of greatness in Night Elven culture) and refusing to become the saviour by killing the Naaru. Interestingly enough, Velen completes his character arc by taking Illidan's advice by becoming proactive and trying to defy the path he had foreseen in his visions.
The Legion expansion really did a good job showing off the complexity of the character. Highly recommend questing through the entire expansion on an alt, since a lot of it is shown in game.

Realistically he only _seems_ somewhat bland compared to the others because... Well really, what do the Draenei care about the stupid factions wars of the Horde and Alliance? Like, obviously the Draenei are pretty pledged to the Alliance and will do what they can to help and such, but Velen himself tends to stay out of it. And the other leaders know that, Liadrin especially seems to be the main Blood Elf to vouch for not waging war on the Draenei.
And lets be real... after Legion, when the Light Forged joined in and the Vindicaar was their little temporary home before they could settle properly on Azeroth (which is still yet to really be established in them doing that ingame), the Vindicaar was _basically_ an Orbital Defense Platform with the power of pure light. If Velen and the majority of the Draenei were really super into allying hard with the Alliance, _what the actual hell_ would've stopped them from raining Holy Destruction upon Lordaeron and Sylvanas' Undead forces at the start of Battle for Azeroth?
Velen and his followers probably could've easily stopped majority of BFA, or at least the Horde/Alliance fighting part of it, but why should he pick a side? He's probably in the camp of characters thinking _"Lightforged Jesus, are they fighting again? Why?! Fuck it, I'm staying out of it. Exodar for some reason still needs attention in fixing up."_
Velen is a 'bigger picture' sort of guy, as we saw with Burning Crusade and Legion. He'll step up when everyone is under threat from something that's not their own stupid decisions.
@@IBrowneeI I really like that explanation. Its real hard for him not to take the slow and steady approach when he's nearly immortal.
For him, all these crises and wars will be over almost as fast as they started. So only the really big end of the world stuff registers an immediate response.
Also i think we kill his son in the legion expansion. I remember it was really sad. Dude has been trying to do the good thing. He is a boomer, that has probably done more good for the universe than anyone else. Always tries for peaceful solutions. He is like dumbledore or gandalf. Staying back for most of it, acting in important moments. Not revealing his hand untill necessary.
I can't overstate how much I love this. The Draenei are my favorite race, and this vid is marvelously animated and with hilarious commentary that's the *perfect* balance of silly and respectful!!! It's almost sad how hard that is to come by. You've gained a fan my friend!
Fun fact, the Eredar were potrayed as an unimaginable evil demon race that was one of the causes of Sargeras going mad, because Titans had no concept of evil or ability to comprehend somebody doing bad things. They were imprisoned and later freed by the gone mad Sargeras - before they retconned it in TBC.
Didn't disappear from the original creation story however, which was online on the WoW website until at least... I think Cataclysm? Or MoP.
But there were broken draenei in warcraft 3 already, they didnt seem evil

If they're gonna do the whole "oh light can be evil, too" they can do "well, Man'ari aren't completely evil and this bit here decided to join the Alliance because screw the Horde". It's not even very different from what they did with the Void Elves, who are literally infested with void and void is supposed to be on par with fel anyway.

Archimonde was one of the strongest eredar there ever was. As you ve very well presented, he basicly singlehandedly annihilated Thal'kiel's little army. He was not as cunning as Kil'jaiden or as gifted as Velen but his raw power supplemented for it. That's why he was the legions field commander. And that's why he was very efficient with fel power.
And in Mount Hyjal he's a cocky boss with a win-more ability set, meaning you'll either wipe on him for hours or kill him easily.

I like how dreadlords have become what the eredar were supposed to be. Can hardly say the eredar are the masters of deception or that Kil’Jaeden is the universe’s best strategist anymore 😂
Blizzard are so fucking bad at writing stuff it's insane. Shadowlands is just a fanfic of already bad lore that even made it worse.

The writers who created the Warcraft lore stories don't actually work at Blizzard anymore, so it basically is fanfiction.
To be fair Dreadlords always was the manipulators and such, and it helps that they always betrayed and such even in warcraft 3. The eredar always was too high rank to get the more interesting stories. Still I just hope they will hire some dam writers and make their stories a little less complicated so the main plot of a expansion isn't ruined because they cut some content or need to rush stuff

So Kil'jeaden is responsible for the Jailer and Denathrius' toy soldiers, the dreadlords for joining the Legion. We will see how that turns out.

I kinda wanna see Eredar become an allied race now. Like survivors from Argus who were forced to take the fell and work for the legion against their will but were freed after its destruction
Yeah except none of them were forced. Every single Eredar that worked for the legion was voluntary. Or else they would have left with Velen

@@NoobsUnited9000 Velen's son for example was forced. He was captured by Talgath on Kil'jaeden's orders and turned into a Man'ari.

@@GearShotgun It's true, many, if not most, had fel forced on them unwillingly, but the problem is fel is just THAT corrupting; having one's entire being, body and soul, infused with it kind of overwrites whatever personality the person had before. The old them is dead, what exists now is a demon with their memories.
I gave up on wow this year, but these videos are fantastic. This is probably one of the best yet.

I honestly would like an offshot of Man'ari Eredar to be playable. Maybe kinda how the Night Warriors Elfs customization is unlocked but along with the new features you can play as warlocks as well but only with the red skin.

@@Andrew-Thalmann forsaken are a specific group of undead created by the plague of undeath unleashed on lordaeron, who later escaped the Lich King's mental control. The plague was designed specifically for humans. Sylvanas was an elven general killed and raised as a banshee by Arthas using the power of Frostmourne. She's not technically a forsaken- she just led them.
@@alexandergreene461 They weren't raised by a plague, like Forsaken, which are technically ghouls, were. All DKs were raised directly by the Lich King.
Really wished lore could be conveyed in game this well, maybe with aptly implemented story mode campaigns.

How about that time when after Garrosh died the iron horde joined the ranks of The Horde and brought their technology like the iron Stars, and the alliance had a oh crap moment? And then suddenly nothing happened with that and we're supposed to pretend it never happened or made a difference
I thought we stopped him in the time Loop before he was actually able to get the portal working to go to the Past and meet the original hordes invasion.
I wish I had this video before Legion came out. That expansion was awesome, I should have learned more about the lore.
yeah would've been nice- though a lot of this lore was introduced or fleshed out more in Legion so getting it beforehand wouldn't have been possible.

After the Shadowlands, I don't think all Dreadlords are siding with the Burning Legion. Mal'ganis sided with the Death (Denathrius) and Lothraxion sided with the Light (Xe'ra) while Tichondrius and Mephistroth sided with the Burning Legion (Sargeras). Like humans, some are good, some are bad.
That's actually makes the most sense out of anything. If they were creatures from their own home world that developed naturally into a concept of free thinking life like the races on Azeroth then it kind of seems obvious that they all be different inclinations of personality and opinion. Someone probably see the burning Legion is the best thing ever others would see siding with the afterlife as they're guarantee have a free out no matter what goes down. And some are probably out there just doing their own thing for their own sake because screw everyone else I'm a dreadlord.

Fun Fact, Kil'Jaden is voiced by Lex Lang who has done a lot of anime/cartoon/Power Rangers/video game voice work such as Geto from Jujutsu Kaisen, Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin, Edgar from Durarara, Ecliptor from In Space, Zen Aku from Wild Force, Dr. N. from Crash Bandicoot and Kenny from the Scooter Episode of South Park.
Archimonde is voiced by David Lodge, whose also done a lot of anime/video game/Power Rangers voice work such as Jiraya from Naruto, Captain Jeralt from Fire Emblem Three Houses, Grigori The Dragon from Dragon's Dogma, Villamax from Lost Galaxy, Loki from Lightspeed Rescue and the Fake Igor from Persona 5 Royal.

Anyways, you could pick any story from the warcraft universe and make an amazing tv/movie series out of it. Still waiting for them to transcribe everything in the Arthas: Rise of the Lich King book into a movie trilogy. It's a goldmine that'll never be tapped, sadly.

the draeneis and velen lore is what brought me into wow, i remember i was in high school when i bought the Rise of the Horde novel which tells velen story aswell as the orcs corruption and the interactions between Velen and a kid durotan it blew my mind since i didn't knew shit about lore i just had played warcraft 1 and 2 back in the day, since then i always main draenei paladin
A bit late now, but I typically play as a human or human equivalent as I do in FF14.
But damn, if I’d ever played WoW the Dreinei minute have changed my mind.
You know, I keep hearing some fans say that the "draenei retcon" was one of the worst retcons in Warcraft history. By making it that Sargeras was corrupted by the (demonic) dreadlords, or his own observations on the possibilities of the whole universe being already corrupted by the void; instead of Sargeras being corrupted by the Eredar. But, in all honesty, what did this retcon really hurt? Not all that much detail was elaborated on/established about the eredar beforehand, and the story Blizzard came up with the coming of the Burning Crusade (or possibly before) was a hell of a lot more interesting than what they had before. It gave the eredar, and by extension, the draenei, a much more detailed and storied history. Now, this is different than what's going on with Shadowlands right now, because in Shadowlands, Blizzard has been upheaving DECADES of clearly and explicitly established lore that we've experienced in game for ourselves! There have been characters in game that have TOLD us that certain things are the way they are, and then in Shadowlands, we're expected to just forget about all that. Yeah, don't think so. So it's for this reason that I'm actually perfectly alright with the "draenei retcon">
the draenei retcon is genius because it makes both sargeras and the eredar much more complicated and interesting than they were before. sargeras choosing the path of destruction willingly for what he perceives as the greater good makes him so much more compelling than just being corrupted by the eredar
