I got the Battery Discharging While Stopped after a few days sitting in the parking lot at work. So, I took out my BMW charger to keep the battery in tip top shape. As you can see in the video, different electronics run in while the car is parked.

I got the message Sunday you think I need to charge the battery or replace battery it says battery discharging while stopped: Electrical devices were temporarily switched off what does that mean air condition 12 volt outlet or just the charge the battery or replace the battery? I have the same error message coming up now. I thought it was because I jump started my partner's car, but it is cold outside now, so the weather may be the reason.

Check age of the battery 🔋. When I took my battery out it was 7 years old.
I bought original battery from BMW because it was cheaper than aftermarket. If you decide to change it your self you will have to register new battery. If you don’t you your car will eventually kill your new battery

You should get it in 5 days unless you drive short distances. Was your battery registered when changed?

How often should you charge it after it reaches 100 %? Should you wait for it lose a few percentages then recharge or?
I leave mine on if I don’t drive for more than a week. You can leave it at 100%, it’s a smart charger and won’t overcharge.
i store my car away cause i live in two places. i make sure i lock everything up and shut AC Radio. I have a 2012 750li, i noticed when i came back after 4-6 weeks that same message comes and it goes away when i first drive away. The car starts right up.just wondering why it comes on. when i use the car alot there is no message, it only happens when it sat for long periods.i had my battery checked 3 months ago before storing it and my mecanic saif its perfect.
These cars use power even if the car is turned off and locked. Just look at the security light blinking on the mirror, plus there is GPS, self checks etc. so, even with perfect battery you will get this message if it sits for weeks. These cars require a battery tender like the one in video when not driven.

Hey I have a question man I closed the door of my 5:50 bm W that has soft close feature and now I can't get it open because the seatbelt is the locked in it and I can't get open at all what do you suggest
oh that's something I've never heard of. Have you tried the manual key to open the lock and then..well.. just pull on it?

Any decent trickle or battery charger should do the job.
‘Battery Discharging while Stooped’ came on while driving and it was not cold out. After about 1 hour in, the dash shut down, steering wheel stiffened and gear symbols started to blink. I was able to make it home (5 min away) without stopping, accelerating and adding muscle to turn. I was terrified though. It started this today to tow- same battering reading though.
How do u fix it? I have the same problem with my BMW528i right now but it show me steering problem, engineer too I was fml.

I have this exact problem. And now when I turn it on it shuts off in less than 2mins
This Also Happens From The Vehicle Sitting For A Long Period Of Time. I Was Told Driving It Will Recharge The Battery via The Alternator!!!

Hi bro! how r u? I've an e89 2013 (n20i) and I lost my battery, so I can't open the z4 with the remote control or manual key. You know hoy I can open the car to charge or replace the battery? Best!
You can open the drivers door with the physical key. Then pop the hood and use the two connections in the engine bay to jump start the car or charge the battery.

Hi, i live in Connecticut and have the same bmw x3 2013 and i haven’t started it in about 6 months when i did this morning it actually started but the battery discharge light came on and car took an hour to heat up but also the car wouldnt go as i press on the gas pedal do you think it’s due to the low battery level? I’d appreciate it to get an answer
If the car has started, the low battery would not affect the car moving. What exactly happens once you put it in gear and press on the accelerator? Does the engine rev up?
I started it again this morning and it does rev and drive but the battery light is still on I’m taking it to autozone and get the battery checked. Thank you for taking time to read my comment and reply.
@@Madeasy4you Hopefully you got it checked. If you don't plan on driving much in the future, grab yourself a decent trickle charger for peace of mind.

Yes, you can. You have to realize that in order to fully charge the battery it can’t be a 5-10 minute drive. Also, the trickle chargers condition the battery which is likely to expand the life of the battery.

SimpleCarGuy I drove my car for 3 hours on the highway, but when I turned my car off, the same battery discharge message popped up on my iDrive. The battery got replaced 10,000 miles ago. What could be the problem?

so, without a charger, a drive on the highway should recharge the battery? in winter of course. its been -20 here. right now its above 0. EDIT: i got a new lead acid battery put in. 6 days in and get the recharge light on the dash. i still have the stock agm battery in the house as the volt meter on it reads 12.3v. so im not sure if its the cold draining these batts or the fricken alternator? its a 2012 528 xdrive.
A 20 minute drive will recharge it more or less, but if you leave it for a few days again, it won’t be enough.
As far as the new battery, did you get it registered?
@@SimpleCarGuy the car gets driven every day. it doesnt sit. work is only 2 miles away so no highway time. but on my breaks at work i sit in the car running. i wonder if thats why the battery will drain. it isnt moving just warming up
Correct, the battery is basically not charging when you are idling or just enough to keep things running. Do make sure you register the new battery or the car will kill it quick.

I have a F82 2015 BMW M4 that uses a lithium ion battery. Every time I start the car I get “increased battery discharge” I contacted my local BMW dealer and some tuner shops and they all tried to charge me $1900+ for the new lithium ion battery. That is just crazy stupid... I am wondering if I can put in a normal battery that matches all the specs to my oem battery in the car. Please help me out
I am not an expect on this but from what I know the car doesn’t have a smart sensor on the negative cable as it’s built into the battery. So, unless you can do some advanced coding, I don’t believe putting an AGM battery would work out for you.
Hi, I'm also no expert but you definitely can't just change it without coding it. You'd need bimmercode and bimmerlink to do this as its a two software process. So I think the process is coding and registering the battery so the car recognises it.
This happened to me after driving for 1 hour about 45 miles journey on the freeway doing between 60-100kmp. So am not sure what's going on
If you got the message while driving, it is most likely the alternator. Before you get it replaced, though, I would recommend testing the battery just in case it is the issue. Usually those tests are free at Autozone.

The car was in for yearly check 3 days ago. I think the check for battery but will need to call them tomorrow and see

Probably go into settings and hit reset to clear message
What is the reason for that problem
Most likely a weaker (but not necessarily bad) battery and your car having a lot of loads when it's off.
hello, I have an 04 325i bmw abt 150k miles. It seems to die if I dont turn the engine on and leave it on for a bit, in 2 days. So 2 days on no use, the battery completely dies. I got a new battery and it still happened. Took it to the shop for some other issues but mentioned that and they didn't know. Was told by triple a it may be an alternator problem, my alternator voltage fluctuated between 12.4-13.4. I'l literally send money to anyone who can solve my issue lol. Really don't know where to go from here and am worried I'l end up spending money on an alternator for nothing as I don't think thats a low enough voltage for the car battery to die while not in use.
I don't know much about BMW older than 2008 as that was my first one. Do batteries have to be registered on 2004 cars? I think for 3 series it started in 2006, but I'm not 100% sure. If so, I would definitely check and make sure the battery is registered.
It also doesn't seem like it would be the alternator, unless it is half bad and is on it's way out. If it wasn't charging, starting your car and driving, wouldn't do much good.
I suspect you have a parasitic draw that's draining your battery.
My car literally stopped in the middle of the light went to Neutral by itself and shutoff completely now won’t turn on I have no idea what to do. Please help🙏🏾
I would recommend scanning it with a BMW scanner (Can be had under $100) to see what happened. That's really the only way to know what's going on. Of course, check to make sure your battery didn't somehow disconnect. Do you get any lights, power? Does it crank?
@@SimpleCarGuy I still get power and it sounds like it’s trying to start but doesn’t, unfortunately I don’t have a scanner so I took it BMW today to at least know what’s wrong it. Hopefully it’s not anything serious😭🙏🏾.
Ps I don’t know much about working on cars but from doing research online I think it’s probably the alternator or probably a timing chain or serpentine belt.

What about not driving your car for a couple weeks during pandemic? Drove a half hour and seems fine.
You should ideally put it on a trickle charger. If not, drive it once a week for 15-20 minutes.
Mine did this so I changed battery and still does it. Do I need to trickle charge new battery
You have to make sure to register the battery or your car will kill it within 6 months.

Most modern BMWs require a battery register after a swap. Your car learns how to charge it overtime and give it more ‘charge’ as the battery ages. When you put a new battery in, the car doesn’t know this and will overcharge the battery subsequently killing it in a short time. You can get a bmw scan tool to register it or go to the dealer and they will do it for $100

not helpful. My bmw won't start due to an electrical issue but it sat in my driveway and somehow drained the battery completely. I put it on a trickle charger but after 8 hrs it only shows 3.4 v at my battery. I'm afraid something is still draining it. I want to shut of all electrical use in my Bmw! Obviously its load shedding algorithms worked like SHIT! Only way I can think is to pull the battery out and charge it directly. But I have stuff in the truck and its difficult to get it open. etc. etc.
Tells you nothing.Something is draining your battery like mine at the moment.Only option is a proper auto electrician or BMW technician if you’re rich .
My car has the same problem will taht solve it tho
