the increase battery discharge warning is a protection mode every BMW has to protect the battery and leave enough power to start tehe engine but in many cases the battery still fine but it is not to maintain all the components on. this problem affect all BMW with Idrive from 2002 and up.
good voltages
12.1v + ignition on engine off
12.5v + ignition off engine off
14.5 v ignition on engine on
if the voltage is lower than 12.0 v that means that the battery needs replacement. the battery can still be good for other older vehicles.

Thanks for the video! I actually found another way to measure the actual voltage. Just activate the secret menu with the button on the instrument cluster (entering the sum of the last 5 digits of the VIN), and it will show you the system voltage, with and without running engine. So this gives you exactly the same information as on the external meter, but without opening the hood.
Okkk and how to fix that problem? Alternator is ok,new baterry,software updated,no comp misstake minus sensor is new....what is problem ?
Also don’t forget to check all your fuses! After power failures sometimes fuses blow.
I enjoy getting the best info from you on my 2009 bmw 750 li I have this same exact problem and supposively my battery was change but now it’s turned off all my electrical radio doesn’t work at all, please help

When the car is on, the alternator is charging the battery so you see the alternator voltage. I'm experiencing this right now. Battery before starting is 11.4 - 12.1 if I'm lucky. Then it goes to over 14 volts once started. It's not taking a good charge from the alternator though so gonna need to replace my second one in about 8 years I'd say.
Does your car have the N63 engine?
It can charge the battery but no the alternator is not designed to charge the battery it’s designed to maintain the battery

The purpose of the alternator is to maintain a battery charge not charge it. It also runs all your accessories. Battery only has 12 V versus alternator put out anywhere between.13 to 14 bolts while running kind of like a inverter I guess
This is a common issue in vehicle with the very defective N63 engine (piece of garbage) from voltage battery issue and unusual oil consumption. Only addressed by a new battery, under the BMW customer care. (Up to the dealer). Car accessories pulls power when the car is off. Replacing battery every 2 years.

So I have experienced low battery capacity on other cars. The electrolyte level in the battery was low. Refilling the cells with distilled water and charging the battery restored the battery capacity. Have you ever done this with a bad BMW battery? Second is there a special procedure for removing a BMW battery?
Update: took the battery out and checked the cell electrolyte levels. Had to add more than a pint of distilled water to top up the cells. After charging the battery capacity is like new.

The type of battery you need is the gel battery. "AGM"

But if the battery is indeed bad, can you actually repair it with a charger that has pulse repair mode? It looks like that's worth a try...

Hi I got that problem battery discharge while stop. BMW x3 2013. I checked battery and alternator still the same stupid me don't know anything . I live in Toronto Canada why I change the alternator because I had an oil leak so all the oil went into the alternator 😢 make a story short my mechanic on vacation for the Christmas season he back on monday January 16.so I went to a different shop thanks for your tip anything else you can help me with I'll be greatly because this vehicle is expensive

My 2016 bmw 435i xdrive is having a charging malfunction could that be the alternator or the alternator fuse?
Currently having the same issue and spent alotta money on brand new battery, still having same issues

Many BMW with the N63 are known for increased battery discharged
Yup i have a boarder line 12.2 as well and even tried fully charging it but it will drop right down to 12.2 and another way is to put your radio on and you will see it drop fast under 12 ! My battery is only 1 year old Very disappointed !
In virtually ALL of these videos you guys talk about the battery discharging either overnight or when the car is shut off. But why does no one mention or diagnose when the battery dies while driving??? Same discharging message, same ‘drive longer distances’ message, but twice now all the systems started shutting down within 5mins of these messages. Thankfully I keep a jump starter and battery charger in the car. But is this also a sign of bad alternator? Replaced AGM battery and got it programmed so it’s new. Not even a few days later messages popped up again and systems shut down and car shut down WHILE driving. Please advise!???

Same issue here. Was driving and ALL power went off. I was on a not so crowded road so I was able to pull over safely. The tow truck driver had a portable charger so he gave it enough power to get on his flat bed and it shut off again. Trying to diagnose the issue with not much progress

HI I have a BMW X5 E70 2007 I JUST REPLACED MY BATTERY ON THE CAR BUT THE ITS DISCHARGING WHILST THE POWER IS OFF AND DOESNT START AGAIN WITHOUT A BOOST. HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE DISCHARGE???
this happened to me on my 1 series and it turned out to be the starter, one day it just didnt start anymore, replaced the starter and the problem went away

It can be the kombi.. instrument cluster drains battery when they go bad..am having same problem

What if your battery is good, and it still does that.
Probably your IBS is bad. It is the negative cable of the battery
If that's the problem, did it need to be reprogrammed?
