This 1988 Classic of Bright Lights, Big City with Michael J Fox. it’s one of those movies. I could just watch and I never get tired of it. His performance in this movie. It’s just amazing. I only wished this movie got so more recognition and appreciation. It’s one of my top favorite movies of all time. It may be 2024, but from time, I’ll bring back to 80s and put it on. its a decent movie, but felt incomplete. needed more scenes with the new woman Vicki. needed a better resolution with Amanda, as Jaime really says nothing to her. the whole resolution to the movie felt so abrupt the old writer who took Jaime out to lunch seemed like a pointless character.

This film would have been valued more if it was cast properly. MJF was miscast in this and it wasn’t a great vehicle or fit for him. Just like Casualties of War which was another bad decision. I can understand he was looking for serious and dark material to build on as an actor but they sure didn’t help his career. After BTTF I think he got type casted in that role so anything dramatic was not always a great suiting for him.
I think he's great as Jamie, and especially good in the latter part of the movie. I also think it's really hard to translate the book into a film. The film just doesn't convey the intensity of the book in so many places, imo, particularly from the beginning chapters.
he's not the problem. the story just feels very superficial and its catharsis realizing his buddy would be a great match for his superficial ex wife and he's going to start over.........it feels too fast the whole scene from him at the party to eating bread on the docks is SO fast. not to mention the heavy handed symbolism of him trading in his glasses for a simple loaf of bread. it needed more scenes with the new woman Vicki (Tad's cousin) - that felt more authentic than anything else
