- An overview of my HO scale model Railroad that depicts ABC Railway and CSX interchange just south of Akron in Barberton, Ohio. The first 5:30 is an introduction and background of the real ABC line.

A friend sent me a link to your video and I was surprised to see that you used my track for your layout. l am glad to hear it has worked out for you and I like the changes you made to accommodate your prototype. The ABC Railway is a fantastic line to model and will give you lots of operations. The swing bridge is a neat way to give you easy access to the train room when not needed. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more videos.-Tom
For some reason I really like it when people take the time to show their research and ground their layouts in reality. It is a good window into the creative process. You appear to have made many excellent decisions, not the least of which is borrowing from the Georgia Northeastern, which has also provided me much inspiration. Your swing bridge and drawers are great - I wish I had that kind of talent. Subscribing and going to watch your other videos now!
That’s a nice layout and well organized space. Looking forward to trains running!👍🇨🇦
Thank you. Hoping to get out a video of operations this week!
Nice layout, I was born and raised in Barberton area. My Dad worked at PPG, as a kid they had their a railroad that brought limestone from the mine in Norton to Barberton. It a major cause for my love of trains. I do have a layout in O scale two rail. Keep up the good work.
That’s awesome thank you. My next layout will be more prototypical for Barberton as I learn and design better
What a wonderful layout! Thank you for sharing it with us!
nice looking layout... good stuff
Nicely done
Everything looks fantastic, great job!
Thank you I appreciate it
That swing gate is a modern master piece. Real smooth.
The drawers and their location are brilliant!! Its one of those " why didnt I think of that?!" deals.
Thanks! don't worry for all the successes I had, I also had those "why didn't I think of that?!" moments with my layout.
Looking pretty good. Nice concept for a small area
I like ! Your work shows a great layout. Be proud !
Thank you appreciate it a ton
You have done an excellent job on your layout. You fit a lot of operation in without making it too crowded.
Thank you. Really tried to make it open with plenty of space.
Nice Layout! It looks very accurate to the real layout!
It's a nice layout. Quite similar to the 11x10 room size I have where I built the Red Rock Northern. Nice job.
Great layout, like it very much. It seems to have all the aspects of much larger layouts, but without the need to operate with 20 other people.
Thanks. I have definity learned a few things I would do differently on my next layout but happy how this one turned out
Looks great! Lots of fun to be had.
thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Excellent layout , congratulations
Thank you
Very nice, great use of your available space.
Thank you. Always wish we have more space but it’s perfect size for now
Thank you for sharing. Very nice layout.👍👀
Thank you
Sweet layout!
Nice layout based upon interesting prototype.
looking good
Very nicely done.
Thanks!
Nice uncongested layout! Real clean.
Great video. Looking forward to seeing your progress! 😀
Thanks!
Nice.
Very nice layout sir !
Thank you very much!
Thank you for the nice overview video. The names and places are familiar to me. You have done a good job capturing the "flavor" of the area. Will have to catch up on the rest of your layout videos!
Thank you. Are you from the Barberton area?
@@CSXNSModelFan Good afternoon. I live in Akron and did consider the Akron and Barberton Belt as a subject for modules.
Very cool prototype!
Thank you very much. I was lucky to live by it and can’t wait to make a larger layout.
Nice layout!
Thank you. Appreciate it!
Wow that is awesome! Very nicely done and impressive
Thanks for your kind thoughts
@@CSXNSModelFan Hope to see new videos posted!!
@@edtoomuchfun957 That is the goal! I have to admit I have done a terrible job this year but my goal is do better this winter and moving forward. What type of content would you like to see?
Really nice set up you’ve got. Looks like it will be a lot of fun to operate. Will be following along 👍 -John
Thank you. I’ve been watching your videos for years. Definitely has inspired me a little bit!
Great Layout you have there. :)
Thank you very much!
Nice layout, I like the simplicity
Thank you. It's very simple but effective!
Set up well ,an the storage was nice 👍
Thank you. I would like to get an old blueprint cabinet to hold all the rolling stock but this will do in meantime
Came across your channel and was pleasantly surprised... very well done...Awesome!! So I liked and subscribed.. I will catch up with the rest of your vids...Darrell
Thank you. Had to make sure my skills and layout were up to par before I shared it.
Love it ❤
Thank you very much
Very nice layout. This is the layout I'm looking to build when I retire my current layout.
I will be checking out all your videos.
Awesome are you trying to model abc/csx area or just the layout design and fit it to your prototype?
@@CSXNSModelFan The design and fit is what I'm going for. It will still be CSX, just freelance.
I bet a lot has changed in 3yrs…time for another tour 😊
Believe it or not, Since that layout tour video nothing has changed on the layout. I have spent all my time weathering rolling stock or building coke cars!
I love the green button for the crossing signals! Wish I could get them in n scale. Can’t seem to find them anywhere. Beauty layout!
It was just an Amazon purchase
just a great layout and your planning is really great, too !!! our pikes are very similar although mine is 34x15 yet still basically oval.... i do have what i would call maybe a small "helpful hint" ( please remember i am an old retired fart and have been in this hobby for over 60 years now)... i do understand you said it might be too crowded for the center peninsula as was originally pictured in this video. i had the same problem on my pike and realized i needed more switching area as i was just watching "trains in a circle" which got really dull after awhile. this was made worse by being able to see other layouts and then seeing that i needed more "room". here is my suggestion, all being based on adding a center peninsula..
1) it does not have to be 2 feet wide !!! you can get a ton of switching in an area of 1 1/2' wide x 4'-5' in length or even less !!! the artwork/buildings you have are mighty fine and this will allow you to expand a bit.
2) i promise that you will get bored sooner or later even with a basic loop such as it is !!!
3) you will get bored !!!
4) you will get bored !!!
your work/planning/scenery are just beautiful... keep up the good work !!! i have wle/bprr/wny&p/lal on my layout doing all kinds of switching on my "new but small" peninsulas... and boy after a beer or two i am really happy i added them !!!
blessings to you !!!
I actually built the center section. It is about 16" wide and currently in my garage. I figure if I actually finish the rest of the layout, I can add it as an expansion.
Looks really good! Depending upon what material your drawer liners are, you may want to consider putting a layer of acid free tissue paper between it and your rolling stock. I had some drawer liner attack my passenger cars a few months back, and the paint was damaged
I have heard about that. I believe my foam is the exact same as the cradles you buy for working on locomotives. I’m looking every once in a while though to make sure nothing eats the paint.
Nice layout. Based on Tom's track plan it provides fun and operations for sure.
I see that you do not have a staging area. So you start with the cars to move already being in the yard I guess. Please tell us a bit more about the operations you do, maybe in a future video.
Take care.
Take a look at my model railroad operations video part 1. It’s the next video after my layout tour. After I talk about my car cards and waybills I go through setting up an operating session. I’m currently editing the next video of the operations.
Very nice layout, I'm a big fan of urban/commercial area switching. Who are you getting your background building flats from?
Tracksideflats.com. I got #403 HO Scale Industry Set.
Looks like a great foundation for fun. How many trains do you run at any one time and what's your approach to cleaning track?
I usually just run one train at a time but when I have had nephews over have increased it to two or three. For track cleaning I will use mineral spirits on paper towels or Q-tips
What did you use to make the bell sound for your grade crossing? Very cool!

Looks like when I used to run trains for csx through there:

hi your layout is really cool locks fun for ope session will sub thx for sharing.
Thank you hoping yo run an ops session on this within the next week so you can see how it operates
glad you like it its big for ops but fun.
I live near ABC
It’s a neat railroad. I went to school in Akron so I got to see them on the NCS headed to Brittan yard
@@CSXNSModelFan I think you should add the barberton Erie depot onto the layout I think you can fit it on the swing bridge
@@CSXNSModelFan if you need any reference photo just contact me I’ll see what I can do
That’s brilliant idea. That’s right on the way to Continental Carbon I’ll have to work on that after I finish the base scenery around the layout
Background flats are lame as they are , angle then a tad and add a roof. Or a side and create some depth
That’s a great idea sadly don’t have enough room on this layout. Next one tho
