Cue funeral dirge! Dum da dummm... Thanks for posting this. I'm working with a 2x8 foot table space so it's great to find such great examples of what can be accomplished in limited space. Please send my condolences to Carl's family. 🥲
Your layout demonstrates you don't need a large layout to have a nice ops session. Too bad Carl did not live to see another day, he violated so many safety rules it was only a matter of time ;) It is good to see you are having fun operating. I look forward to following your progress. -Tom
Thanks, Tom! I’ve been following you for some time and you are the inspiration for the figures during the operations and also the operating derail! -Dustin
@@poorfrank Hi Dustin, thanks for your comments on being an inspiration for your ops sessions with the figure and operating derail. I find it helps to visualize what a real crew would be doing and slows down the session. One prototype note for you, a conductor should not be on the side of a car for a coupling as they can easily fall off. The crew should stop one car length prior to the coupling, and then conductor will dismount and observe the coupling from the ground. If you have any questions on ops you can contact me through my website at www.thomasklimoski.com Your layout looks great and I am glad you are enjoying operating it.-Tom
Haha, yah I was in a rush to film it and was having some track issues I needed to sort. By the time I realized I had missed that step, I was most of the way through... hence the disclaimer not to be like Carl (was easier than reshooting lol).
That was a great post. LMAO! Really good way to start my day and coffee. Your Feed n Seed sure looks a lot better than mine. Nice scenery not over done. Thanks much for sharing this post.
Dig a hole right here, mark it with a cross for "my pooch, named Carl, got hit by the train"! New subscriber here. Cool little switching layout. Yes, I'm a truck driver, but I started out as a HO model railroader. Just taking a break as I'm remodeling the basement for my new and improved modular, portable, free-mo-protolanced port layout. Inaddition with an N scale home town free-mo-lanced switching layout. Port layout is MoPP Missouri Pacific Port, Port Arthur, Texas. Hometown N scale is MP/KCW. Missouri Pacific and Kansas City Western division. Road diesels are the KCS SD70ACe's with MoPac GP's as locals. That was fun to watch!
Nice video, interesting layout, very nicely scenicked. I was hoping to see the green boxcar get moved, as well. Maybe next time. Thanks for producing, posting and sharing this video.
Beautiful layout subscribed ! Just started building my layout first one ever and videoing my progress .This hobby has a endless amount of ideas you can do which is the best hobby in the world .
Love the one rusty hopper and the aliens on the side of the other! Carl was funny until he ate ballast. He'll be missed. They could have waited for rigor mortis and used him as a tie. His hi-viz could mark a clearance point. It's what he would have wanted. 5:50 They'd never push a car that close to a set derail IRL. They'd remove it when they lined the switch for the siding, before starting the shove.
@@poorfrank thanks for the sub man! Glad to hear you'll be publishing again, I really like your style. Check out my vid where I almost get hit by a model train - it cracks me up! Maybe we can brainstorm and swap ideas sometime. Take care - Bill.
Good scale speeds. No HO scale wobble or sudden starts that would scale up to a three foot leap forward from a standstill that drives me crazy when I'm trying to make my train move realistically. Does your Loco have low gearing?
Always fun to switch..I could do it all day ....if you want to add some variety , look at JMRI operations ...not too hard to learn …generates a lot of variety in switching ...nice video ...especially the ooops ..handled well
Very nice layout and operation. Where or what did you use to make the porta potty? Simple things like that make a difference on a layout. I never thought about it on mine until I seen the one you have
It is a BLMA models porta potty. Might still find them kicking around if you search for them-BLMA was bought out by Atlas some time ago. Thanks for watching!
My great uncle was killed in the 1930's while switching cars in a snowstorm. He was caught between two boxcars. All they had to bury, according to my grandfather was one leg.
@@dotbmp If you look, it should be possible to find a dealer in Europe. If you import it yourself from North America, you're likely to have to pay customs duty, making the model much more expensive.
@@beeble2003 its actually turned out to be cheaper for me to buy it in the states and ship it here and pay import tax then the local dealers, and the North American shops actually have things in stock compared to the ones in Europe. Crazy times.
If you ever talk to anyone that wants to buy a ‘rapido’ Gmd-1 in n- scale, and uses atlas code 55- steer clear of them. Bought two of them and they hesitated, jack rabbit starts at times and stalls on the switches ! Hope this will help someone. Take care. 👽

I simply love the simplicity òf small shelf layouts. 😊
Small modules with great scenery and prototypical speeds is all you need. Love it!
I agree, thanks!
The end was a real tear jerker. Great video!

Hard to believe this much operation can be packed on a module with a single siding and a crossover. Nicely done.
Thanks very much!

Looks like Carl is hanging in for dear LIFE!!!! Very funny and nice modeling and track work nonetheless the less. GOOD JOB
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
If only I would have learned that a small switching layout could be so busy and interesting. What a fool I was not to see it.
I freaking LOVE the Muppet graffiti on the grain car. Very nice!
Thanks-I had it commissioned. Just had to have one like this, so I can’t take credit for the paint job!

great video. Nothing in model railroad is doing operations. I was a freight conductor for 20years and it doesn't get old seeing this

Haha. Thanks!
I can relate to the humor - I have a "Carl" on my layout, his name is Leon. Well done. I subbed. Take care - Bill.

Before that elevator loads any covered hoppers i think they need a spout for them. That looks like a spout to load boxcars only. Love your layout

Nice OP session poor Carl, is he next to Frank where the red ferns grow? LOL
Carl was reincarnated as “Fred” shortly after his demise lol
OMG!!! Poor Carl... But CN knew how to bury Mistakes!!!

With all the shenanigans going on with operations on this RR, it may be fitting to add a "G" to that covered hopper marked with LAUHOFF...

The world's strongest conductor to be able to put the derailed car back on the tracks.

Very funny channel. It’s gonna be like Star Trek, every time you see a new guy on the away party, you know who’s gonna die. Lol.

Should Carl get a ted shirt for future videos?
Don't worry, Carl should be back in no time. But you forgot to put the derail back in place.
Don’t tell the FRA 🤫🤐
I just saw this video, I like your track work and your scenery, what brand track is that? It’s awesome Ty
Thanks for watching! It’s Microengineering code 83, code 70 on the siding.
About to build essentially the same track plan, but in Sn3. How deep is your layout?
It is 24” deep x 8’ long
FUNNY!!! great layout that can keep you busy.
Thanks!
What size is the layout looks great!!!🇨🇦🚂
Thanks! It’s 2’x 8’.
What locomotive is that?
Do you have an overall shot of your layout or sone linked track plans?
Greta stuff! You should have way more subs! Gary
Thanks, Gary! I’ve got to get posting again…
Damn it Carl!
