Nice review. Really like this WLToys buggy.. it is good that they have fitted so many metal parts onto the buggy. Not sure why they have not fitted the hex screws but chosen the Philips screws, but shouldn't be too difficult to replace them. I still really like this buggy. Well done mate! 😊👍🏼
Nice video, that buggy looks really good and runs pretty well too. I've seen a few different reviews of the WLToys 104001 so far, they all seem to say the same thing, it's a good basic 1/10th buggy that's got loads of potential. I'm very tempted to get one at some point, although I'd replace the stock electronics with something a bit better. If spares and upgrades are readily available it looks like a winner!!
I have 2 of them... VEry reliable.... If anyone is thinking about getting one... Grease center gearbox, an front an rear diffs.... You'll thank me later.... Had both buggies for a year with hours on both. ( one is brushless)... no breaks.... Original drivetrain.
think i'll just be keeping my hsp xstr at least i can get a full sized batery in it!! and it will run 3s out the box, and gose like sh** off a shovel, by the time you get a brushless system for the wltoy and servo your prob looking at around the same price anyway, although the hsp has it's flaws too, front arms, servo and shock towers are all rubbish and nead upgrading prity much out the box. but the thing that i hat about the wltoys is it looks like they could'nt botherd finnishing the front end.
I was looking at some buggy's and I really don't see many reviews of the Traxxas Bandit. I really want to see a comparison between the bandit and the 144001, to see if the extra money is in fact worth the investment into the traxxas. I know Traxxas has a great brand name, and lots of parts availability but it seems like nobody reviews the bandit. Being 2-3x the price, I want to know!
Yes its not as fast as 144001 ,but it seems very stable and steering seems tight,so it will be a great buggy for the track... if someone wants to get serious they can always upgrade either keep same motor add a esc that handles 3s and do a battery and sero change and get a 35 mph car...or like you say go brushless and use stock 2s and get around 40 mph which is more than enough for any track to win if you have a good driver... great car...nice review.
I have one on order but I think WLToys made a bit of a mistake with this one. The price is fantastic but for a few more ££, fitting a brushless system from the start along with a three-wire servo would have been well worth it. It's so slow out of the box you are paying for electronics you will just never use. Gavin
i would agree Gavin they definitely missed an opportunity. Even selling it as a rolling chassis would have been a good move to make as most will convert to brushless anyway. Selling it for a slightly higher price with a mild brushless system and a 3 wire servo would have been the best way to go and it had potential to be a massively popular buggy but i do feel they have got it a little wrong. 24mph out the box compared to the 124/144 doing 30+ and cheaper/smaller it really is a tough one. That said it was very smooth and felt at home on the dirt. Cheers mate
Good review of nice bit of kit. I say this is a good challenge for FTX Vantage . Can get Vantage with Overlander 2s Lipo of same capacity and a charger for about £120. Wltoys has nicer bling but I'd say the FTX has better transmitter. I've got an old WLTOYS with this transmitter and it's very basic and toy like.
looks like theres plenty of room behind that motor so a 3670 brushless should fit in there easy think they have a 5mm shaft so may need to drill out the pinion or get a new one as i guess this uses a 3.7mm shaft stock

Most people that are gonna get these are gonna go brushless anyway so the speed don't matter ..and for bashing if u do keep the stock system in that should be plenty fast .I will be getting one and putting my tenshock 3800 kv brushless motor in it
sounds like a plan. I think brushless is the best way to go anyone who buys one will crave that extra speed almost straight away. They should have sold this brushless RTR :/
It looks like a nice budget buggy. The only thing I don't like about WL Toys is the Flimsy Body Shells and Wings...... I imagine brushless upgrade would be pretty epic though.

Not a bad strategy to sell 2 cars instead of one though as every bus this one, Reviews it as great but needs to be brushless. Then they release the brushless and everyone also buys that. I’ll wait for the brushless.
I love this...I bought the 124019 with the same batteries....the batteries are junk. My hobby store said to "de-salinize' them and discard. How long does it take you to charge the batteries that came with yours ?? Can you charge yours ??
I just got back into RC trucks after close to 20 years. I started off with a 1/12th scale(Chinese) monster truck. Awesome fun affordable and tough. My issue is as I look for a 1/10 scale to move up to the battery costs are crazy for anything over 2s. Have you noticed the same issue?

What's your opinion on the reliability of the diffs? I have fully upgraded the heck out of my 124019 (4S 60c, 3500kv 3665 motor), she flies dangerously fast but it's just too much for this platform. I'm looking to go a bit bigger and can't decide between the 104001 (and upgrade that as well), or the the Absima Stoke 6s
Have only ran 3s on this so i cant comment about 4s! But i cant see them being a huge issue people are running 4s/6s through 144001's which are 1/14 without issues haha

This car is going to boost the 144001 sales ! It sounds like the flop of the year, slow, fragile, expensive. For the same price you can get a 144001 ( costed me 52€ last buy for aliexpress anniversary ) + 120 Amp brushless kit. Shame on 104001 and long live to 144001 !
I am a massive fan of the 144001 and covered it a lot on the channel. The 104001 was slower as you see 24mph compared to the 144001 stock speed of about 30ish mph. I still think the 144001 is an excellent value rc but the 104001 does fill a gap for people who are looking for a slightly larger rc and is a very good platform to convert to brushless should you wish to do so. The servo even being stock was incredibly smooth and overall handling was great. For the money I think it offers a lot but it will come down to a matter of personal preference on which one to buy.

104001 vs SST Racing 1937 pro?
Speeds not that far off . 45kmh is 27mph a few runs it may losen up for another 1-2 mph. Also depends on how good that cheap supplied battery is .

i charge at 2.2a as its a 2200mah so about an hour i have no idea what it is on the USB charger as i use a mains charger!

I bought the 144001 today, it will arrive next week. Is it suitable to drive in sandy dunes and beaches or might those be too rough for the buggy?
you should be fine the stock tires are carpet tires so you may want to look at a proper set of off road tires to get the most out of the buggy

These batteries are NOT LI-PO's. None of the wltoys batteries are.
