    The key to aluminium upgrades is to use them where you need to add strength / rigidity but leave some parts plastic to be sacrificial in a crash.

    • @francisdapro3296
      @francisdapro3296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What parts would u say is sacrificial. Just looking for advice

    • @owd7150
      @owd7150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@francisdapro3296 lets take the front end for example, so you would get the front end in alloy such as hubs, front arm holders, suspension mounting plate etc but you would keep the actual suspension arm plastic, so in a crash the plastic suspension arm would snap instead of bending the more expensive alloy. It depends on the car really but I always try to have one weaker point to take the pain from a crash, preferably a cheap and easily available part.

Dont screw it to tight its never good. So all peeps buy the wltoys if it breaks just buy a new one cuz its cheap.

    I've got a 12423 (sc version of the 12428 buggy) that I've modded nearly beyond recognition, and YES, the screws are garbage! Gives me anxiety like nothing else 😳 Other than that it's been a solid runner. And for you upgraders out there, the only metal upgrades needed are the diffs, the rear linkage mounts on top of the axle housing, and the driveshafts, and when picking a driveshaft make sure it has u-joints, not ball joints. Other than that, if you're looking for a ton of top end speed, don't even worry about taking slop out of the steering, it'll straighten itself out by around 30mph. Plastic takes crashes wayyyyyy better than the cheap aluminum parts. I've had no problem running 4s in mine and it'll ride the wheelie bar all day long!

    Great vid guys, I have a 144001, 12428-b and a a949 rally, I think the 12428-b variant gets overlooked, its a great little overall car, it can bash and to a degree it can crawl, Kev's video showed how good it was on a 50 odd degree climb😊 . Theres so many of these now and ive only been back in the hobby for about 6 months and already seen some good quality jumps. For folk like myself, im starting a after school club for autistic kids these little things are brill, lots of tinkering and if they break it doesn't cost me too much, I also reach out to Rc content makers for their banggood cast off's and to buy their broken bits etc but apart from 2, most have been a flat ignore or worse,accusing of begging . I get they probably get masses of spam but ive never once asked for anything free, and always asked for them to price. Anyway way off topic, keep up the great vids from a Brit 👍

    I run a 12428 with the metal gears which needed modded to mesh properly but is SOLID now, and the 12429 which is a bit sluggish but basically bulletproof and gets it done with the bigger tires. Hands down best "bang for the buck" rc vehicles I have ever owned. Both were purchased brand new for under 80.00 each to my door!! PS: the dog has more fun with them than I do...!

    They are absolutely right, I changed everything to metal to mine but when they collide it's a disaster, just change the electronics and the tires, not the rest

    • @M4CHINE69
      @M4CHINE69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus plastic is kinda better because if it is not brittle and then you collide all the energy will just get absorbed and won't break the part since it will deform and go back to its original shape

  • @gbraadnl
    @gbraadnl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For some of the parts, like turnbuckles, swing arms, etc I replace them with the LC Racing plastic parts. You might have to swap some of the bearings as these aren't direct replacements... but your car will be much better when it comes to crash resistance; and the parts aren't that much more expensive.

    That green 120428 literally is upside down on my workbench right now, with 3 or 4 screws snapped off in it. Including a long one in front that holds the "upgraded" front diff in place! The rear one was a "snap", but dear God that rear one!!! Not to mention the servo broke due to me wrenching on it to get those rotten jagged half screws out. If it wasn't my 8 yr Olds, it be in recycling bin. Definitely a love /hate with those guys. I'm a sucker for those oversized brushys.

At Christmas I got 2 x 144001's for me n my 17yo son. We have had a BALL. Massive fun, but. Geez I have bent n broken a lot of stuff. Mine is at the stage where most gears are in trouble. Loved the platform and wanted to no what it was copied from. I found a bloke in Victoria (Ebay) that sent me a LC Racing EMB- Truggy. OMG what a difference in Quality, speed and handling. twice the price and twice the car. Down side is parts are 4 weeks away if you order the correct bits LOL. Was offered a 144001 copy of the Tacon car for $73.00. 540 or 550 giant brushed motor that runs super hot. Within 5 packs I bent both shock towers multiple times (2 or 3), bent 2 shock shafts beyond repair, broke 1 C-hub, pulled a screw through 1 steering knuckle, severely bent 1 A-arm at a screw hole weak spot, broke both rear wing mounts, bent and straightened 2 drive shafts...... Other than that it’s been just wonderful. Replaced everything with pretty red aluminum parts, runs again. Did not bother with the wing. First cash offer takes it home, I’m done with it.

    I have a Wl Toys 12428... I’ve taken it apart 50-60 times ... every screw... it’s one of the few I had no probs with...make sure the quality of the hex driver is good too... I’ve stripped those .... use heat on the screws that stick and don’t force em. Only the motor mount screws have been tough , but with heat and patience they too have been removed... I swapped out all electronics, multiple times too. The one complaint is the receiver and controller suck, they too have been swapped out... Dumbo RC controller ,savik mini servo, 2-3 s gool rc esc and 3900kv motor.

    Always enjoy your videos. You guys are great and fun to watch. I have purchased 2 WLToys RC’s based on TH-camrs great reviews (not you guys). They are cheap and maybe a good toy for a youngster. My reasons not to buy any WLToys RC.
    1) Banggood - they are a terrible company who have a reputation for ripping people off . They are on several consumer sites in the states, in the NOT to deal with group. BTW Banggood owns a large stake in WLToys and control distribution. In the states they are a nightmare to deal with, forget anyCS. My first car took 3 months to arrive but the website said 10-15 days. I sent several emails, none where replied to. It came damaged, again no CS, luckily I used AmEx and they dealt with them and protected me. AmEx could not reach them as well. You all being in Hong Kong may have much better shipping times.
    2)all that pretty metal is junk, paper thin. It bends soooooo easily. Metal is only good when it’s good metal. My shock towers and shock shafts bent on my second run (not bashing). In comes Banggood again, ordered new parts all in one order, never arrived They hit my AmEx before shipping (illegal in the states). You can guess, no CS response. Thus my last try with Banggood and WLToys. That car went in the trash where it belongs.
    3) you get what you pay for, these are cheap for a reason. Like you said even the screws are junk. These are Chinese pieces of poop.
    4). I LOVE THAT YOU GUYS ARE HONEST about products. Banggood (WLToys) sends most TH-camrs with decent sub counts), all free stuff. I got recommendations from a few TH-camrs who get it free and don’t want to piss off the free gravy train. They said a positive stuff, unlike you guys who tell both sides.
    Keep up the good work!

    WLToys are great in the beggining but as soon as they break it's hell! I would not recommend people to buy WLToys if they want to modify them but for a kid they should be great.

    Great video! The issue with the soft metal applies to everything metal coming from China or India. Great tech and poor quality material. Such a shame unless you're willing to put the time in on changing out every screw. I'm definitely not going to be buying anything but the k969 as I live in Arizona and everything is hot most of the year.

    I have 10428 buggy, this has the 2 speed mechanical gear box which is cool. The suspension is surprisingly great once I got the shock oil changed. All the parts are of decent quality, no slop like on my HSP SCT (sad because it hauls ass) but can't trim the steering since everything moves a lot at all the pins and joints. The number one reason why not to buy WLtT are the all built in electronics and 5 wire servos. By the time you are done upgrading that, you have yourself an Arrma.

    Great video, as usual...and totally agree about the horrible screws. They are what immediately broke on Augie where the front shocks connect to the tower.
    BTW, what was the white buggy that showed up in the video (toward the front).
    Happy Monday Amber and Joe!

    I noticed you losing signal at not too far of a range. I've had the exact same issue with my a959 and a979. If you want to upgrade you have to do transmitter, receiver, esc, and servo.
    But, you can get all that for like $40. I made my a959 brushless for about $45.

    Thanks for beeing honest. Most channels just show a bash session and then jump to the next car. It's always helpful to get ar review after using a car for a few month. Then you get the reality :o)

    A little bit extra... bro... its 100 vs 4-500. For the cost of a traxxas id rather have a team associated. Wltoys is a great way to start and buy upgrade electronics before buying a high end kit, especially the new 104001.

    I think it’s worth mentioning that although these cars are cheap..... online purchase, online parts ..... supporting local hobby shops if you have one is important to the health of the hobby. I’d gladly pay a few dollars more to support a community shop. Ever see bangood listed as a race sponsor? No and you won’t.

    WL Toys hit the big time? I bought a little helicopter from them probably 8 years ago, and was impressed by the quality and price then. I still fly it occasionally. I’m not giving up mine and my son’s Traxxas collection though.

    Quality control is the same for almost every brand, especially rtr cars. I've had empty shocks and diffs in my Traxxas and arrma, almost empty... And I've had a lot of electric problem too, especially Traxxas but the warranty is very good. Buy a kit car and build it yourself, you'll learn a lot and at least you are sure your car is build properly 😁 and no I'll never buy a wltoys but I'm sure it's a good first rc car. Greetings from Belgium and stay safe
