- Making your parrot or bird’s nutritious food is easy and fun to make at home. Knowing what goes into your parrot food is excellent peace of mind to ensure they get all the nutrients that their diet needs. Parrot chop can be made with many variations in the recipe, which is good for keeping your parrot exposed to different veggies, fruits, grains, and seeds. Some of the ingredients used in this video are not organic, which is OK; not all stores carry all organic items, so don’t worry, wash everything thoroughly before chopping it up. For our parrot, we like to have a large variety of things in his chop, but aiming for 50% vegetables, 40% cooked grains/legumes, and 10% dry ingredients is an excellent guide to keep in mind. Prepare and cook the grains and pasta before mixing them into your chop.
***Please remember DO NOT to use ingredients that might be toxic to parrots such as onion, avocado, rhubarb, and mushrooms. If you are still determining if an ingredient or food item is toxic for your parrot, please get in touch with a local avian veterinarian for guidance.

Jesus! the bird eats better than most Americans lol! But I'm a vegan so really happy to know my new bird friend will eat what I eat! I just rescued a wild baby rosy-faced lovebird from a cat! My local bird sanctuary nursed him back to health; they figured his mama may have died because he was starving too! So... I just invested about a hundred on a cage etc to start the journey with my new parrot friend (his name is Ipo, means sweetheart in Hawaiian). I'm hoping he'll love as much as this food as I do ;). thanks for the video!
Ha! Yes, he does have a large selection to eat. It’s all about giving them options and trying new things.
I got my first parrot yesterday and was looking for some tips, I was wondering about the food, thank you for this video. I named by parrot BLU😋😋💜💜😁😁
Thank you for the feedback. Has "Blu" decided on any foods that are favorites yet?
@@videoparrot He likes lots of fruits except mangoes😂😂, he loves plantains, bread and milk also, he's a baby so he's sampling a different variety of foods.💙💙😁😁
@@katherinejoseph7060 I read that milk isn't good for birds!
@@Eithetraveler He loves apples🤭🤣🤣
Thank you!
Great video, and Chico looks so happy and healthy! I'm getting a green cheek this week and this was an awesome video to come across for preparing for him to come home. Liked and subscribed - thank you so much!
Chico is a happy boy when it comes to his chop. He is usually a little slow to adopt with new additions to his food as he will pick around the newly added things. You will find what your bird buddy likes over time but make sure to introduce new things from time to time. And you're welcome for the video. Thanks for liking and subscribing!
Dang what a spread! Just head to a buffet. Faster and cheaper. :) Good job. I think I will try a few of these as well.
We try to keep a large spread to give Chico all the good stuff he needs. It is impressive once its all laid out on the table.
Thanks for the tips !!
You’re welcome
so helpful and thank you :)
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Looks super thank you I will try a few of the veggies for my two birds. At the moment I have tried some carrots and they have not realized its for them to eat. Any tips will help. From South Africa.
Sometimes mixing the veggies together with one or two of the veggies or fruits they are not big fans of will help "trick" them into liking them. Try smashing up a couple of blueberries with the carrots.
I have the same cage too. :)
This cage is one of my favorites also. Lots of places for different bowls and it also has a nice upper deck for him to hang out. The powder coating they use for the cage makes cleanup a lot easier for sure.
What foods are raw vs cooked in this mix?
"parrots" eat very different folks! A lovebird can not eat the same as a conure or a budgie! Please do your research. For the LOVEBIRD peeps here (haha.. peeps... yeah, that's on purpose) - Lovebirds Love millet because that's what their ancestors ate! AND IT IS HEALTHY FOR THEM! just gotta get the "correct" kind i.e. PEARL millet - (sorry... this is so confusing but thought I'd let others be just as confused as me & maybe someone can figure out how to actually get the pearl (non GMO'd etc millet seed to America!! lol :D ) - th-cam.com/video/Sj0LKZiHaUI/w-d-xo.html
