These 7.3s are going to be amazing when they get all the bugs 100% worked out. The lifter issues still have me apprehensive of the 7.3 Godzilla at this point. Would make a great option for most who aren't towing daily but have a large RV or equipment to move and don't want to deal with new diesels emissions (can't make them disappear easily in many states). The 7.3 has been swapped into a 1965 Shelby A/C cobra and it's insane!
Ill report if mine has a cam failure. So far so good. This engine in a light car would be so much fun. I mentioned id like to have a police pursuit crown vic with one and im not kidding.
I'd like to grab one of these also but as you mentioned there is reports of lifter/cam issues. Here's what I get from that. It's a very small percentage of trucks that run into that issue. They say it's more so the rv's and box trucks that have that issue. Idling for long periods was all mentioned as they don't get enough oil pressure. I also heard it's mainly the trucks that were built in the covid era as the supply chain was messed up and Ford had to source parts from different manufacturers. I was actually at a local Ford super duty shop today and I spoke to the service manager about that issue. He claims he has never had a f250 come through the doors with those issues. Now the 10 speed transmission issue some people are having is a different story. I think a lot of that has to do with the tuning. And apparently in 24 Ford changed some stuff in the transmission so maybe it's resolved now. Ford sure does have tyranny issues tho. I have a mt82 in my Mustang. So far it's been good to me but it gets a lot hate. Same thing with the 10r80 that are in those cars. Once people start putting more power to the ground they start having issues.
@@lobbyrobby your info sounds spot on from my understanding. I had a mt82 in a mustang as well, a 2014 track pack. Good car and the trans was fine for everything but speed shifting. I even had a ford racing short throw shifted. You had to be very careful crossing the gate because the trans rocked when you shifted and the distance to the next gear would change. I should have kept that car it was a fun daily
@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 I have a mgw that's not installed yet and a braided clutch line. People swear an aftermarket clutch really helps with 3rd gear lockout. I don't want to go that far yet. My car is boosted but I'm only at 600whp because of shitty 91 octane. And yes, I said only lol. The supercharger kit is capable of much more. In all honesty tho 600 whp is perfect for a fun street car. When it's cold out the car really struggles for traction anyway and I have zero desire to run a drag pack.
After owning 2002,2002,2008,2011,2016,2019 Superduty F350's diesels and now 2024 7.3 F350 I must say it's a great truck. Got 10k on it too. Flawless as well. Will be taking it across country this coming summer with truck camper. Wish me well.
Have a great trip, be sure to stop and enjoy all there is to do. Most of my road trips for work end up being there and back as fast as i can and i know im missing out on so much. There is a steam train museum iv driven last on the way to Philadelphia now 3 times i havent stopped.
@@ARK.79 awesome. 28k now. 11k miles hauling from East coast to Lake Tahoe and back. Been flawless from bumper to bumper. Hauls great. Wish they had this beast back years ago. I had diesels since 2002. 6 of them. Combined with 10 speed it rocks.
@@jimbobxcityguy5338 glad to here! I bought a 24 xlt 7.3 here in Vermont last week. Rides great, waiting to tow until I get a few thousand miles on it. Feels like it would do well on 8-24hr trips
Great video; I appreciate your knowledge; I learned a lot. I have the 6.8 in a 23F350 CC XL STX and love it so far. Lots of power for me but my first super duty.
The 6.8 sounds like a good option. Eventually the aftermarket is going to love boosting them. The shorter stroke means less piston speed so less load on the rotating assembly. I wonder of the heads are the same as the 7.3. 415 ci is still a very reasonable amount of displacement to work with. Id like to drive one
Iv got a 2015 6.2 it's a good truck. It will haul heavy loads. I have hauled total weight truck included 31k before 13 miles with hills so she does work but I got 2024 7.3 this past summer and the power is unbelievable. No comparison to the 6.2 blows it away.
@@davidbeauchesne1135 the 6.2 was a great engine and i dont think ford gave the platform a fair shake. I feel like they should have explored it further. Mustang wise and even a full size car. And perhaps a higher performance version in an off road trim superduty. For a work engine you are right, it is a good engine but its not comparable to the 7.3. My expedition for instance, would be way cooler with a 6.2. I think a max tow package expedition for one would be super cool with a 6.2 and it would be a good use for the platform
Bro I came from an 05 silvwrado into my 22 7.3 and literally I said to myself one day "holy crap this is a modern reincarnation of the GMT800 platform" Spot on on your analysis.
I traded my 2020 f350 7.3 for a 2022 f450 diesel. Miss that truck every day. I am waiting until I can order a 2025 f350 with the 7.3 again. The extra power is nice when towing heavy, but other than that the gas truck is awesome. So much less expensive to own and operate, super simple and cheap to maintain, great sound, and excellent ride quality due to the gas truck being so much lighter. really a great engine, no direct injection, no cylnder deactivation, and a great sound if it didnt mention it. Pulling a big hill with my fifth wheel when it drops down to 7 or 8th gear, the sound was just magical.
@@japhethwar all very very true. I have a 450 on order since july 2023. It should become a 2025 now. I wanted it for a dedicated tow rig so i can specialize this truck a bit with a topper and a softer suspension system with alot of flex. Right now, im having a hard time feeling left behind with this current 7.3. It does literally everything i ask of it. Including sounding amazing. I know if the choice was get rid of the 7.3 to get the 450 id have to keep the 7.3. If i can swing keeping the 7.3 id consider the 450. That way i can do what i want with the 7.3. A electric cut out in the exhaust would be fun, a carli dominator system and a whipple supercharger would be fun for sure. Maybe someday lol
Had a 2020 F-250 Crew with a 6.2. Great truck. Towing up to 14k on 22’ equipment trailer was effortless with the truck. Sold it when trade values were high. Wanted a 7.3 but there was limited inventory and Ford wanted full sticker for a 2022 when 2023s were out. Nay. Nay. Bought a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with 6.6 gas. Love it so far. Plenty of power when I do tow my equipment trailer loaded. Great video. I’ll definitely take another look at the 7.3 gasser before the next purchase.
Man, you know a lot about trucks and vehicles. I'd like to buy you lunch one day, if you're ever over this way. Me: 23f250, Lariat LB, 7.3, 373e, 2alt, 2batt, etc.etc. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
I do wish i had dual on both. Right now my truck is a daily. The best i could give anyone, have a daily and an off road truck, never intermix the two lol. Or else you will be wondering how to go to work with a broken truck. Been there done that
I'm currently driving a 2018 F205 Diesel for personal use and I love the low end torque. No need to floor it to feel the speed and power. I also drive a 2019 F250 6.2 gasser and it just doesn't have any low end torque. So it's a little slow and not too fun to drive, I mean you have to floor it to feel some power. That being said, do you think the 7.3 Godzilla is a fun engine to drive like a diesel? I know it won't pull like a diesel but I'm wondering if it's fun for normal in the city driving like a diesel.
Yes I have a 2022 Lariat 150 with the baby 6 and I can hear a pin drop maybe when it’s running. It has the sound mat so I checked this morning. I don’t have a reason for the big ones anymore but I live vicariously through you. Great Video Thank You 🙏
Thanks for sharing your video. I'm ordering a '25 F350 King Ranch Tremor with the 7.3L / 4.30 setup and not looking back. 95% of my time I'm just driving around and not towing but I do pull a 14K bumper flat deck, a 21K gooseneck dump, and a 21K gooseneck flat deck from time to time. The gooseneck needs to move my E60R2 excavator or my JCB320 CTL on short trips so it'll need to pull 20-21K pounds occasionally. I have a 07 classic GMC with a Duramax LBZ and I anticipate the Ford 7.3L gas should perform equally as well if not better. These new large displacement gas engines mated to modern 10 speed transmissions are nothing to laugh at! Even though I take my maintenance scheduling very seriously I may just opt for extended warranty coverage. I hate buying extended coverage as I always feel I'm paying for a "possible" repair in advance but perhaps in this case it might be best, just for peace of mind.
@@chrisb_71 i think the 4.30 in your application is a good choice and the chassis will really impress you compared to a lbz. The stability of the truck and the brakes are a night and day difference.
Thanks for the info! I just bought an 2024 XLT last night with the 7.3. My initial drive home is, I was liking the ride. I will update you on my over all thoughts after I drive it. I am from MICHIGAN as well! I just subscribed to your channel.
Just ordered f250 with the 2k power on board if the power goes out, the truck will be idling for days. Yes I’ll get the extended warranty in case it blows up my 2020 F250 sometimes I would sit in the truck and it would idle for hours doing paperwork phone calls I believe it had 58,000 miles on it when hurricane Helene flooded it out so didn’t have to worry about the lifters going bad
I find it hilarious that Ford guys for the last 30 years have absolutely trashed pushrod engines because Ford had abandoned them. The moment Ford announced the 7.3, they suddenly gushed over the idea of a pushrod V8 truck engine again. I think it's great that Ford admitted the error of their ways. Pushrod V8's are excellent for low end torque, fuel efficiency, and reliability. The issues that some guys have had with this engine, I believe, are due to excessive idle time -- lifters don't get as much lubrication when the engine is at warm idle. Don't let the engine sit there idling for 30+ minutes.
I've got a 2023 with 14k miles on it and love it too. Drove it from Ohio to California and everywhere in-between towing a 7000lbs Airstream. It did magnificently well. These are excellent trucks.
I have a catch can in my summer car but I've heard a catch in colder weather is not a good idea. Apparently they can freeze up and block the flow. I have no idea if there's any truth to that tho. I'm assuming you haven't had any issues? And what is winter like in your area? Are you talking really cold like myself up North?
Totally unnecessary if not useless. Just adding more maintenance and failure points. For a boosted, DGI only engine you can make a case for one. For a relatively low compression, port injected NA motor, adding a catch can is a case of “if it ain’t broke, fix it until it breaks”
I have a 24 e350 box truck for my business. I have this engine paired with the 6-speed trans. Its great! Reminds me of the 351 Windsor i had in my 95 e350 years ago. Power house.
I’ve got a 2023 7.3 F350 dually. Northern Lite slide in full time and towing 4100 lbs 60% of the time. 8700 trouble free miles. 600 mile unladen break in with an oil change. Next oil change 1000. Now every 2500-2700 miles. Will continue this interval given it being loaded down all the time. 10y/100k mile warranty via Granger as well.
How do you feel about the 6.8 for someone who doesn’t tow a lot but needs a super duty for when I do? I do lots of daily driver miles sadly with my trucks so the most economic SD is what I need
Hello. I have a 1950 Farmall H Distillate ( it was made to run on kerosene ) it has the row crop front wide spread wheels, and a 1952 H gasoline only with the front narrow wheels and the factory hydraulic system in the transmission.
@@Sasquatchflow the problem is all engines have lifter issues right now. Chevy ford dodge and its all caused by the same thing, either the lifter spinning in the bore so the roller isnt straight or the roller locking up from dirty oil or lack of oil flow at idle or during mds on a dodge or cylinder deactivation on a gm truck. Best way to combat it is to change the oil at 5k and not idle the truck excessively. If i have a cam failure ill report it. But i do 5k oil changes and keep idle to a minimum. So i really dont expect to have an issue. More over with this recall to refresh the ecu with a high pressure oil calibration, my truck wasnt effected by the too little oil calibration. My bet is cali emissions trucks from that area are part of the issue. They lower oil pressure at idle to decrease fuel burned at idle
Sub'd! I daily a whipple 5.0 f150. I wanted a rc f250 with the 7.3, but up in canada, I haven't seen an HD truck promotion for interest rates in years. The difference between my f150 at 0.9% and the f250 at 6.9% is about 15K cad over 72 months. That was the same price I paid for the whipple installed with fords warranty. Beauty truck man! I'm definitely looking at putting a zilla in my 66 mustang project.
@@stephenfrost545 supposedly ford rates at 2.5 are coming but im not holding my breath. I didnt do too bad using a credit union, but i also put alot down on it so i financed very little. Normally i do 5-10k down. This time i did way more because of the interest rates. I think a full size bronco with a 7.3 and old borg warner stick would be really fun
@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 that would be a wicked unit! I love the Broncos, but I'm not paying the price for an unreliable v6. If they tossed any V8 in there, I would jump on it! I'm also really looking forward to musk going after the EPA and NHTSA. This might be the return of big block half tons, sports cars and reliable diesels!!
@ im talking a 70’s one lol. The 7.3 is really what the gen 3 ls could have been. Its the same idea just more stroke and bore spacing. Its crazy what we have been given as hot rodders. The power, efficiency, tenability and you can build it from mild to wild is amazing. Supposedly an aftermarket block is out for really big power drag racing Im not sure ill ever be in that sphere but id like to be in the sphere of 7.3 powered pre runner, rock crawler, maybe ultra 4 build. Someday if the channel grows big, it would be amazing to get into some engine building and some racing with vehicles we build. I can dream cant i lol. But a supercharged 7.3 in my truck is an attainable goal in the short run. I do need it for work right now but we will see how the channel grows
Great minds think a like! I love my '23 Zilla, yes, it's a Zilla. Check out Holley and their swap options for the Zilla. I do like my new front axle, as it behaves better than my '22. Research Dana and their tech on these new diffs. It seems as if they offer much better gear facing with a narrower ring gear. There seems to be 'method to their madness'. Great content! Thank You Sir!
@@Tuishimi well i dont own one. It was part of the buying process. Direct injection without port injection is not something im in the market for on a pickup truck and the 7.3 is faster and tows alot better. So it was quickly crossed off. But down the road if we can pit them head to head for sure we will. But right now as an independent owner i just have to pick one for my uses. Having 403 cubic inches is great and i suppose it was over due, but the 7.3 is 445 cubic inches and it shows. Im surprised they didnt do a 7.0 (427) for trucks. there IS a learning curve on learning to park a big truck. For two months I was doing multipoint turns to back in properly. Now after a couple years I have this down to a science! I know how far to pull ahead. I know exactly where my turn point is. I swing the front end and get the rear moving into the slot. If my initial pull ahead distance is proper I amaze myself at how deftly I can back my crew cab long bed. I would say that my need to adjust once I get the line up correctly by doing a slight pull ahead is about 40-50% of the time. But I’m anal and I try real hard to put myself right exactly between the parking lines. PS - a MUST HAVE are push button folding mirrors. My God what a great feature. That’s just as valuable as the key pad entry and lock on side of the door! You can set the mirrors to auto fold when you shut off the engine. I disabled that so I can do it only when I want to. It’s a 2 second screen feature. I just drove to Houston. Backed perfectly into a pretty wide opening at Holiday Inn parking lot. The back up camera helps so much. This was a parking job where I didn’t have to do a pull ahead adjustment and my wife laughed and said “showin off?” Haha. Another fabulous thing you want on a big truck is 360 degree camera view. My wife’s little Maverick doesn’t have it and she wishes she did. I use it a LOT when I am pulling into a tight lane - one button push and I can see exactly where my front end is without guessing. Love that. I would never buy a 250. The 350 was maybe $400 more? Honestly I forget the price difference. I remember it being next to nothing enough so I couldn’t imagine why more people don’t get the 350? I worried about registration. I live in Louisiana. Great State to live FREE in. I called DMV (yes you can get a human being on the line here and if you are nice she might call you “sweetie!”). She told me I did NOT need a commercial registration. Awesome. Called insurance. They were a little confused but I finally got a Commercial Insurance guy on the phone and he said “you don’t need me. Your truck is not a commercial truck so I’m sending you back the personal vehicle agents.” My 2022 F350 cost me $250 a year LESS than my 2017 F150 because it has blindspot monitoring. Cool. So my PAYLOAD sticker on the door is awesome. 4,069 #. Haha. My old F-150 was like 1,700. My buddy’s 250 diesel is 3600. F350 rides rough. We have crappy roads in Louisiana. I do not text and drive because I CAN’T!! It ain’t that bad though. You certainly get used to it. We use the 350 as the daily driver and grocery getter. It’s an awesome truck. The 7.3 is a mean machine. My wife is five foot Nothin and she drives it like she stole it. It’s just an XLT. All I’ll ever need. I hope to get 300,000 miles on it. I have done 16 oil changes so far for an average of 4700 miles between oil changes. I baby it with fresh oil. Takes me 10 minutes to do it in my driveway. I put an awesome brass valve on the drain pain. I don’t need a wrench. The oil filter is 6” away from the oil drain. No need to jack the truck up. I have a crawler and I slip under there, open the brass drain valve and twist off the filter. Done in no time. Can’t say enough about how great this truck is. I’m an old Toyota truck guy but there’s no way anything that Toyota has could compete with this truck. Totally different classification of vehicle. I just hauled 6 tons of #57 limestone home in a 3,000 pound dump trailer. My truck didn’t really care about that load. Over 35 miles loaded my mpg meter said 7.8. That same trip unloaded would be 15. I hauled 25,000 once but only about 17 miles. I got 7.4mpg. Godzilla is awesome.
Have a 95 k2500 suburban 454/4l80e and a 96 f250 460/zf. Been slowly restoring one while daily driving the other. Fuel in both plus insurance is still cheaper than full coverage and payment. As for the warranty sure its vehicle turnaround. I know several businesses that use the truck till the end of warranty then trade in for new.
In all honestly true i was actually thinking that when i was filming. Im sure some are evap lines. Ill have to trace them all now lol. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thats a good truck dont get rid of it but it is a good upgrade. For years we talked about how cool a 408 build would be sweet in our 6.0’s. Well ford did one better with a warranty and no straight axle swap needed. Thats what i was getting at but i had adhd moments of traveling thoughts lol. But ya 01-07 classic 6.0’s are one awesome powertrain
@ ya man I was looking into a 408 or ls3 with a LSA / 6l90 swap my truck only has 120k and from AZ so zero rust definitely something to think about sounds like we had the same thoughts haha
@ i built a 369 with ported 317 heads and +5cc pistons and arp everything. Should be a nice little engine. I havent ran it yet. I had a kid and shop work slowed down alot. Which means the last few years i rely on the bought not built option. Slowly getting caught up and getting things done in the shop again. The 2500hd isnt at the top of the list i got a few other things in the way im sorting out first. Id love to get the 6.0 running by spring, now its a 6.1 basically.

Had a 2020 7.3 ended up getting rid of it & got a 23 7.3 the throttle lag at take off is ridiculous, the 2020 was definitely worse than the 23, I was concerned of getting in an accident at times, these trucks are nice, but way too much computer bullshit!!! I've heard a pedal monster helps, but why do I need that for the truck to function properly??
@@SteveCallsen you really shouldnt. They are laggy because of emissions. The faster the throttle the more fuel you use and the leaner the engine goes before it starts accelerating which makes more nox. It makes it feel sluggish as you are begging it to get going. I havent driven a 2020. My 23 doesnt feel too bad. It could be snappier for sure but alot of people dont like snappy and they say it can cause people to accidentally drive into stuff. Personally id say they cant drive lol
I have 3 trucks with the triton v10. The 2010 has 180,000 and still runs great. The 03 has over 200k and it currently is running like crap and we can't figure it out. It's going to Ford tomorrow. And the 99 has close to 200k and runs rough but we barely drive it. We just use it to hook up to a water trailer and we drive it maybe 100 miles a year. I want a f250 7.3 but these prices are ridiculous imo.
Reference your statement about the Chevy 8.1L being rated at a lower HP in the later years… The standard for rating HP changed around 2006ish. Typically the same engine that was rated the year prior, showed a 10hp less rating after.
@@cpfpv6410 im an old school cummins fan. I cant stand the 68rfe and aisin and the hydraulic lifters on 2019+. I really love my 7.3. It kinda holds down the fort here. Never complains, always does the job. It lets me enjoy my 03 cummins and my 93 12v. And my dad has a 2016 g56 cummins. So lots of cummins love here.
I had a 2017 powerwagon before my 2019 6.7 powerstroke. And as you see i now i have a 2023 7.3. The 7.3 has way more power and torque. Its way more fun to drive. It is like daily driving a muscle car that has the towing and hauling capacity you need plus 4wd. Fuel economy is at least 3 Mpg better in all equal situations. If not 4.-6. My powerwagon struggled and i mean snuggled to average 11 empty daily driving with even careful driving. You are talking 9-10 mpg if you have a heavy foot. I know the 2019+ 8speeds are better though. But i highly doubt a 8 speed 6.4 can average 12.5 daily mixed driving unless you are driving on egg shells and below the speed limit. I routinely average with mixed driving with over 450-500 mile tanks 15+ hand calculated. The best tank i had was 18.2 and that was over 600 miles worth of an average. Towing 17k equipment trailer i get 11 ish. My dump trailer loaded or empty is 11-12. A tall enclosed trailer is 12-12.5 mpg. A shorter or a boat that is better in the wind gets 12.5-13.5 depending on weight. This is flat land, i dont live in the mountains. So the biggest take away is fuel economy and sporty performance and much better torque for easy daily driving and easy towing. 485 ft lbs is not a small amount and unlike the 6.0 chevy and 6.4 hemi the engine comes alive around 1800 rpm and is very strong 2000-3200 rpm. The chassis cabs have lowered rpm limits. Now that i owned a 7.3, i see they probably still do great. I can tow anything i want with 3.73 gears 2000-3400 rpm. I doubt anything reasonable would keep it from going the speed limit. Check out the 6.7 vs 7.3 towing test the fast lane truck did. They were within seconds towing a grade with the same weight. What that showed is the 7.3 easily is able to hold the speed limit. Now you are going go be working it harder on a grade at max weight but it will still hold a safe speed no issue. Where back in the day gas engines had their hazards on doing 30 mph up a grade with 12k behind it the 7.3 will tow its limit at 55-60 Mph mo problem. My f350 is rated at 18k conventional which is very respectable. 18900 gooseneck if i remember correctly. I have had an honest 17k behind it. It easily goes the speed limit. Hand holds 8th gear no problem in tow haul
@ no problem. If anything comes up ill be sure to share. I actually reached out to dana. Ill do it again. The more subscribers i have the quicker a company will listen to a request. Ill keep trying

@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 no they were the same for the life of the truck. It did have about 3000 hours on it with 18 or 19 percent of them being idle hours though. I try to idle less now and am changing oil more frequently. Went from 10k interval using Amsoil Signature to 3500 using motorcraft
@@dander0091 interesting data points. It will be interesting as more 7.3’s see high miles how they do. If the calibration change really fixes the issue.
@@EricDodgeMusicAndDance well i had a 2017 powerwagon. So before the zf8. The zf8 is a massive improvement to the platform. The 6.4 has worse lifter/ cam failure issues than the 7.3 does and the 7.3 easily out tows it. However the powerwagon is a stellar off road vehicle so i would still recommend a 6.4 powerwagon if you are looking for an out of the box off road vehicle. I wouldnt recommend the rebel with a 6.4 because you can get a tremor with a 7.3 and have a better gas engine. Normal truck for normal truck (non powerwagon, rebel, tremor) i would not recommend a 6.4 for any reason unless you get a better discount and trade in with ram. Even so, even for less money, the 6.4 does not tow as well as a 7.3 or accelerate as fast, or get as good of fuel economy in the real world. And the 7.3 is easier to drive in traffic with all its torque. You can daily drive from idle to 1800 rom pretty easily. 2250 rpm tops
@@EricDodgeMusicAndDance my buddy has one in a fleet truck for work. Its a service bed truck and he said its good right up until you put a big mini excavator on it. Hes a chevy guy though with a deleted lmm duramax. So i think hes being critical lol. My 7.3 does just fine with 17k behind it. Its by far the finest gas truck iv used. I loved my powerwagon, didnt love the 6.4 in the long run. The 7.3 for sure out tows it and its faster and more economical, believe it or not. Those 5.7’s in the half tons with mds get pretty good fuel economy with the 8 speed. My powerwagon struggled to average over 11 empty with careful driving. I routinely hand calculated over 15 with the same empty driving with my 7.3. I can do even better when im driving like an old guy lol
@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4that’s great info thanks. I currently have a 23 f-150 ecoboost max tow and it’s going semi ok for my towing needs and great for my every day driving needs. I’m still studying the best choice gas with the 3/4 ton chassis. My last 2 diesels had catastrophic def and dpf system failures and turbo failures which cost many thousands. So I’m pretty much done with diesels I think.
@@EricDodgeMusicAndDance i have a ecoboost expedition max max tow as well. Love that engine and truck but its nothing like my 7.3. My 7.3 actually gets better fuel economy towing the same trail. The 3.5 is great for a half ton but you will feel a huge difference towing with a 7.3. And i mean huge. 3.73 gears in both if my vehicles. If you tow on hills or have a big gooseneck or big 5th wheel to tow id buy 4.30’s but i two 17k conventional on flat land with no issues with 3.73’s
Does yours have the Dana 60 front end with the manual locking hubs on both sides ? Bc supposedly all the new ones have a smaller front axle now with only the drivers side locking hub. What’s your thoughts on this ?
23’+ f250/350 superduty’s all come with the M235 front axle not the larger M256 (Dana 60). The only trucks with locking hubs on BOTH sides have the Tremor package with the front LSD. Every other truck has a blank hub on the passenger side that is even inscribed “do not turn”. If you don’t want your front axle shaft turning you need to order a hub for passenger side and connect the vacuum line with a ~6” piece of vacuum hose.
I prefer simplicity over new modern comfort. The newest vehicle I have is a 2013 f150 5.0 regular cab. The other two is a 1986 bronco 351 and 1994 f350 7.3IDIT. My 13 only has cruise control and Bluetooth radio for fancy features. The other two trucks might not be as reliable as the 13 once I get them road worthy but should something break I can probably fix it on the side of the road unless it’s a massive failure. The 13 has computers and such that could fail and that’s not something I can really tackle away from home.
Those are factory ford tremor side steps. I actually have a video on installing them. But they go on any 2020+ 4 door superduty. Im not sure if they changed the step location, i bet not. They could fit on older body style superduties too
@@racook7534 its easy to be. They had 25 years of ls engine knowledge to work with and i love that it has a decent amount of displacement. Something the ls7 only got. I think they should have done a 427 truck engine
I am also a Chevy guy. I bought a '23 F350 with the 7.3 instead of the Chevy/GMC for several reasons. Solid front axle. No torsion bars, weak front differential, weak CV shafts, weak tie rods, etc. no, it doesn't ride as well as the ifs GM trucks but that's ok. Port fuel injection. No intake valve coking. No high pressure fuel pump, no expensive direct injectors to fail. No AFM/DOD. GM didn't have their 10 speed yet and it really helps keep gas engines in their effective power range vs the 6 speed they had. Displacement. It makes LS like power except that it has a boat load of torque down low. It gets decent mileage. 15ish unloaded freeway, 14-17 on the state highways unloaded, around 12 in town, 8-12 towing 10,000 lbs at around 70 depending on headwinds. It tows at freeway speeds easily and will hold 8th gear (still an overdrive ratio) consistently. It has 3.73 final drive ratio. I like it so far but only have 8500 miles.

@@toddreeder3082 very exciting time. Im coming up on a year for my F450 but they build them much less frequently then a normal truck. I hear 3-4 months for non f450’s
It would not take much to get 650 ft lbs out of this engine but at 2k thats going to take alot of boost. At 3000rpm 650 ft lbs will not be out of reach. But on the street id rather a supercharger. Instant torque, no hot side piping to deal with or oil being pumped outside of the engine.
Really trying to figure out what engine to get on our "forever" pickup. We are building out our homestead on 150 acres in the North West and will spend the rest of our lives there. We hope to never buy another truck. Assuming that price of fuel is not an issue (we are not price sensitive) but we are concerned that this is the end of the run for V8 engines and refuse to go hybrid or electric - thus we want to get it now. Should we get the diesel or the 7.3 Godzilla? Which is most likely to be running 15 years from now without major problems? We took note of Wranglerstar's 2001 Superduty with a V10 that seems to be running fine after all these years. which put us onto the idea of getting a "forever" pickup. What about the F150 as a forever truck? Is that too risky and too light duty?
Not really any such thing as forever lol, the f250 7.3 is nice and can haul just about anything you need, like a diesel without the weight. buuut the 10 speed tranny they have has had MAJOR issues, be prepared to drop at least $8k to replace it eventually. If you don't need 4x4 f150 not bad option either, differently cheaper to replace that transmission lol and Diesel oh diesel love to hate you, best have a diesel mechanic friend who works for beer or you'll go broke.
My F250 was supposed to be my forever truck but that changed when hurricane Helene flooded our property nothing’s forever I’ll still take good care of my trucks but no longer gonna be thinking they’re gonna be around forever.
@@nickpatsios407 ...agreed regarding the futility of forever trucks - everything dies. But what wew mean by that is we will not be replacing it every three or four years as we have done on all our vehicles throughout our lives. What forever means to us is not replanting it on a schedule. Even if we buy another one we will keep this new one as well, like Wranglerstar did - he kept his 2001 even though he bought the 2022. Strangely, in many ways we like his older truck better as it is worn in and has kinda become part of his story.
@@livewire2k4 basically everyone has a plastic intake for the last 20+ years. Rejects heat better and it doesn’t hold heat as long and its easy to mold smooth on the inside
@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 spend a summer in Arizona and let me know if it holds up. If its reliable and doesn't break easy, then great. Real reason they switched to it, was due to how cheap they are to make.
I hate all the plastic they put on engines now. I have a 15’ F350 with the 6.2. That had the plastic valve covers on it when I bought it. I took those off and put the aluminum valve covers on it instead.
I havent owned a 6.2. As far as i know they are very reliable. I know they suffer from small displacement. I think they are 376 inches. Liters with one decimal places covers 4-5 cubic inches so its not as exact as it could be. Anyway they dont make alot of torque below 4000 rpm. Where the 7.3 makes boat loads of torque below 4k rpm and frankly you can drive this engine from idle to 2000 rpm as a norm even when towing. So i think the 6.2 has alot of merit. It will get the job done but there is no doubt in my mind 7.3 both out tows it and out runs it. Ford did a good job spec wise with this engine. They gave it what it needed to perform well. I dont believe there is a production gas engine that will out tow it. And its a good daily driver engine too. It feels about as peppy as one would want/expect.
All trucks are way over priced by greedy scum company’s. For the money they want all trucks should be completely high quality stainless steel and have lifetime bumper to bumper to original owner. Anything less is a complete scam.
Good question perhaps because its a lower trim truck? My 2019 lariat ultimate had one. I havent really noticed it until you said it. The engine is very quiet but had a nice enough tone for stock exhaust. I wish i didnt value silence so much, it would already have an exhaust system.
Have a 20 year old ford truck, bought new $25k, has 120k miles on it now. Only major issue was the transmission, replaced twice. Then a few dozen batteries, brake pads thrice, rotors thrice, calipers (ceased lol), tires maybe two dozen sets, an alternator, struts, control arms, shocks, lots of misc parts. Still runs fine, i'll get 300k miles out of it, tranny gives me ptsd though, ford can't make them right to save their lives.

@@creaseejohn756 the 7.3 is no joke. Im an ls lover. We have had great luck with tuned 5.3’s and 6.0’s. But having so much more cubic inches if a 7.3 plus good heads makes for a great engine. At some point used buyers will be interested in those higher miles at some point but we have to get them there first.

The 6.8 sounds like a good option. Eventually the aftermarket is going to love boosting them. The shorter stroke means less piston speed so less load on the rotating assembly. I wonder of the heads are the same as the 7.3. 415 ci is still a very reasonable amount of displacement to work with.

Was your 7.3 special order or are they sitting on lot in tremor package?
I'm currently driving a 2018 F205 Diesel for personal use and I love the low end torque. No need to floor it to feel the speed and power. I also drive a 2019 F250 6.2 gasser and it just doesn't have any low end torque. So it's a little slow and not too fun to drive, I mean you have to floor it to feel some power. That being said, do you think the 7.3 Godzilla is a fun engine to drive like a diesel? I know it won't pull like a diesel but I'm wondering if it's fun for normal in the city driving like a diesel.

I ordered your exact truck but a 22 model. Coming from diesel trucks I have not regrets. I really like it.

Its too bad they only used the ls7 for 2 cars and they did nothing with it in LT trim

there IS a learning curve on learning to park a big truck.

I have a ram with the 6.4 hemi it is been a awsome truck but I've been thinking of a 7.3 how would you compare it to the hemi just curious
Where back in the day gas engines had their hazards on doing 30 mph up a grade with 12k behind it the 7.3 will tow its limit at 55-60
Mph mo problem.
My f350 is rated at 18k conventional which is very respectable. 18900 gooseneck if i remember correctly.
I have had an honest 17k behind it. It easily goes the speed limit. Hand holds 8th gear no problem in tow haul

My 24 is one side
My 23 F350 has manual locking on both sides. Does this mean I have a Dana 60? I have a sterling in the rear.

Traditionally a chevy guy, I am infinitely curios of the 7.3.

It would seem to me that this motor gets a mild turbo and the torque goes to 650 lbs ft. est. at 2,000 rpm.

Saves weight and plastic doesnt hold heat like aluminum. I think they also help with sound deadening with overhead cams
How do you think this compares to the 6.2?

Howard city Michigan here
Love the video
Great video!! I just picked up a ‘27 7.3 CCSB. Love the truck so far. Also, did you buy aftermarket or purchase the tremor steps? Also do you happen to have the part number for the front and rear mud flaps you have? Thanks!
Beautiful truck
Missing a Whipple and it would be perfect x)
Totally agree. Would be a hilariously fun truck. And a carli dominator kit and 40’s and 5.13’s
Great info!
@@PurpleCollarLife thank you so much!
Only reason I keep it is because now I have 3 yr warranty on new engine unlimited miles 3 yrs Ford warranty
Once 3 yrs done I am sale it and get older truck.
The engine is 10.8:1... but I agree, not easy to remember all the engine stats. No worries :)
The 6.8L is 10.5:1.
@@snake10566 if i got it wrong thats my bad. I believe i was getting at that it had a solid compression ratio. Where previous gas engines have complained about around 9.25:1 leaving performance on the table
Heck yeah LOVE your attitude.
the 7.3 is not like an LS. the deep skirt block, ford Y block. th3 canted valve heads, ford 335/385 series. fwd facing tb, mod motors. trans bolt pattern same as ford mod motor. cross bolted main caps, ford used them decades before the LS.
No Deere! Love Farmall. And the other green : Oliver!
olivers are sweet. I love Minneapolis moline as well. Very unique look
No more diesel, really?
I do like big engine 7.3 gas 👍
I'll stick with my 6.7
FYI ford designed the LS decided it was to ugly and sold it to GM look it up
@3:30 6 Bolt main? That looks like a 4 bolt main.
4 holding down 2 cross bolts
let us know how you still feel about it when you hit 150k miles, 10k is nothing.
@@livewire2k4 got to get there first. 20k now. Its got a high standard to keep to compare to my 02 6.0 chevy and 04 v10 excursion. Both of those are perfect runners at 200k.
Most people buying a brand new 23 superduty wont be the ones keeping them to those miles anyway.
At some point used buyers will be interested in those higher miles at some point but we have to get them there first.
What a waste this was. Can skip. Spends most of video talking about other vehicles and not the one in the title.
