Surprised this 6 model has infra red joysticks, I would have thought a massive step backwards, I have the Flashback 3, wired controllers with standard 9-pin connector, which work in any Atari in the VCS range; and the Flashback 8- Gold, which has fully wireless Bluetooth controllers. Circus is best played via a paddle controller, the control then is very smooth and precise. Dark Cavern & Yar's Revenge, would probably be my favourites of the games you played. The issue with the infrared control, it's probable that they're not accurate, or fast enough for these types of games. Frog's and Flies has easy and hard difficulty settings, the easy mode, is easy; great fun as a two player, like you mentioned. The Indy 500 is best played using the Driver controller, like the paddles but with infinite left or right turning. The Solaris game actually needs both joysticks to be used to access all of the controls. It's a different Space Invaders game, to the one Atari produced back in 1980. Enjoyed the review, good pick-up for £20, I think, and yes, a nice item to display in a game room environment.

I'm going to watch this video later today, thanks.
The 2600 Junior was one of the first game consoles in the UK to really gain traction.
Have you and Ant played Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration?

Centipede, Millipede, and Missile Command are really only playable with a giant trackball controller. That's how the arcade units were set up, and what the games were designed around. I recommend checking those out, if you have the means.

I definitely will! I've seen centipede around in arcades a few times now

@@Lydgendary it's one of Atari's best, and Millipede is even better, IMO. Atari didn't have any functioning system of quality control, but despite this they did make a number of great games. The problem is that they shot themselves in the foot just as often. I heartily recommend watching the documentary "World 1-1," which explores all of the particulars and interviews many of the people involved.

I can't explain how hilarious it is for me to learn that the 2600 is now an expensive collector's item. When I was young, Atari had a huge overstock of them and was selling old units at far below cost. I grew up playing the 2600 in my grandparent's basement (they were on a fixed income) and at extended stay programs after school.

Its not. You can easily get a real 2600 for $50 or less. At least in the US

@@jamesb.6177 it's more expensive than that here in the UK as the gaming boom that the Atari was part of was much more of an American thing than European 😊

It's a lot of retro these days really! So much has shot up in price even in the last couple of years. I remember seeing a pink PS2 £20 about five years ago, the exact same console I saw last week for £80. It's wild.

The hardcore Atari fans slate these for very poor quality but looks ok. I’m a massive Atari fan and play on original hardware but have to say just glad your getting to play Atari games 👊🏻

    • @Lydgendary

And that's more than fair! I'm a big supporter of playing on the original systems but sometimes it's not viable. These types of mini consoles are a great jump on point before investing money in the console and games! Who knows, maybe I'll add the original to my collection eventually 👀
