I still own mine that I bought back in 2000. It's the original model not the slim. I've managed to figure out how to clean the inside from dust and debris and keep it running like new. Sadly the Gamestop near me stopped selling the preowned games several years ago but they may still sell the controllers and accessories like power cables and A/V cords. I havent't been inside a store in a while. I own a few classics like Final Fantasy X and X-2, Silent Hill 2,3,4, and Shattered Memories, The Suffering, The Suffering: Ties That Bind, a couple Burnout games, God Of War 2, and several others.
I bought a ps2 last week from a charity shop for 25 quid and went down to cex for silent hill 2, couldn't believe it was 60quid and I couldn't afford it. Luckily my brother had it stashed and gave me it. True story. But I'm so happy I can play maximo and SH2. Happy days.
I would recommend the warriors by rockstar games, the game has a dark grimy atmosphere and really captures the new York crime ridden feel of the late seventies.
Hello, ive just seen your channel, and talking about the PS2,i own a few consoles myself ,any car game i like playing on the machine.GTA 3 is one is my favourite.
I still have my original PS2 which I got as a Christmas present back in the year 2001 one of my best friend's had one too and we used to swap games. It still works the only thing I've done is clean the lens with a DVD lens cleaner as it stopped reading some games. I also have a Eyetoy camera which I used to enjoy as a child.
I picked up an old PS2 a couple of years ago to remind myself how it was, got it dirt cheap plus controllers and memory cards. Got a bunch of classic games including Manhunt and Jet Li Rise to Power. Had a lot of fun. PS2 and then XBox 360 were peak gaming periods for me.
I bought a new OG PS2 last week. Building back up my game collection and absolutely love it. I got it for under £40 and it came with over 10 games including final fantasy X, final fantasy X-2 and final fantasy Xll, Turismo 4,GTA lll and Driv3r. I've been hunting down some of my favourite games over the last few days. I bought Onimusha,The getaway,The getaway black Monday, Knock out kings 2001,mafia,max payne,Rise to honour. I already had a copy of Scarface the world is yours from years ago when I bought that to try on my ps3 when I got that back in 2007. Looking forward to getting back another copy of San Andreas, dogs life, True Crime New York and LA, Extermination, Onimusha 2 and 3. I'm going to buy the more expensive ps2 gems like haunted ground, Forbidden siren, forbidden siren 2,Silent hill 2, silent hill 3 and clock tower 3 by the end of the year.
Thank you for this excellent video, a real injection of nostalgia and a wonderful trip down memory lane. So refreshing to find a gaming enthusiast channel that doesn't include any swearing.
I was very late in getting a ps2 (2005) as i already had an OG Xbox and Dreamcast. But then some great exclusive games like Shadow of the Colossus and God of War came out. The library is unmatched, and the graphics often hold up very well over 20 years later. Like you said the games are still very inexpensive so it’s a great time to start or build up a library.
Great video Lyds! A legendary console generation that I'm glad to still own. Particular games I'd add to the pile are: the Crystal Dynamics era Tomb Raider games (fav version of Lara Croft) the absolutely stellar TimeSplitters games the Lord of the rings games that sit firmly atop the movie tie-in list. Both Gran Turismo and NFS peaked on the PS2, as did Metal Gear. One game I don't see a lot of people talk about was Rumble Racing, a kind of hybrid between NASCAR and a kart racer with lots of big stuntable jumps and powerups.
My favourite console of all time, I got a boxed and unboxed thick PS2 and they both didn’t work properly :( So I had to settle for a slim because I just wanted a working unit at that point. Can’t wait to dive into game collecting for it and finding out obscure games if I come across them. Modern gen gaming just doesn’t hit the same. Great video!
I still have my PS2 and love to boot it up and play the oldies. Great point on the prices still being decent! Some games like Siren are in the hundreds of USD, but others are definitely cheap. Yet still amazing games. Rayman 2 The Great Escape I have for N64 and it is the best Rayman game of all
I like your game collection/set up. I'm working on my ps2 games collection at them moment. When I've done with that I'm going to work on building back up my Dreamcast collection.
I recently started collecting PS2 games and consoles again, I used to have a slim with about 70 games, but sold that and my PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles and games, so far I've been rebuilding my collection...PS3 currently at 352 games and 3 slim consoles, Xbox 360 at 150 games and two 500gb E models, 4 PS1 Classic Mini consoles modded with games, 2 SNES Classic Mini consoles of which one is modded with 120 games, two NES / Famicom clone consoles, and now one fat PS2 and 19 games so far, I do have modded slim PS2 consoles with freemcboot and external hard drives loaded full to the brim with games...but I'd rather collect physical games...
The PS2 can also be modded to store and play games off a hard drive using the network adapter and a program stored in the memory card. You can still find everything required for modifying the PS2 online. Modifying also extends the life of the PS2 being it greatly reduces wear on the PS2 lens.
@@Matrixtruesaiyan Wow. I think I left the scene before the emulators but recently returning to my modded PS2 I was surprised to see a community still thriving with greater advancements.
I still have my original launch PS2 and it still works perfectly, they dont build them like that anymore plus get the HDD adapter and a free mcboot memory card and you can do all sorts with it
Aye-a-way! Spent so much time with Ratchet and Clank. Also Hot Shots Golf (I think 3?). The great thing is all the games are self contained. Everything you needed was on the disc. Duel Masters was good. Legends of Dragoon. Spy Hunter. Cookies and Cream. Just an amazing system.
I still have a PS2 slim and selection of PS2 and 1 games. Tried PS3 but for me the lack of backwards compatibility was a killer with the collection I had.
i bought a ps2 last week, its been so much fun, i had my childhood one stored but in between moving houses my parents actually gave it away as trash... i am still sad enough to cry about it, but i bought a used ps2 with opl for now, the controller isnt original and doesnt read discs, but its still so much fun, i decided im gonna save more money and buy more used ps2s in best condition as i can, i started to realize a couple of years ago that basically the ps2 was the best console ever and there wont be anything like it ever again, all consoles after the ps2 just been so uninteresting, nothing really compares to ps2, i feel like they will be worth even more in the future, i want to buy some and restore them perfectly and take care of them for many years
Super video,I sold my original PS2 when I got the PS3.But purchased a boxed PS2 in stunning condition back in 2020,so glad I did.Hate to say it but think the PS3/360 era is retro
I grew up with the PS2 and great memories with it as well. On that note, i do have to say that i came to a realization that the PS2 isn't as powerful as the OG Xbox or any other consoles released for it at the time. So now I've been collecting those era games for the other platforms to get the best "specs" in the respective consoles BUT i wasn't going to give up on it at all and now im focusing on exclusive titles to the PS2 console, which i think makes much more sense for me.
Oh in terms of hidden Gems I recommend this game called Metal Arms Glitch in the System, this was a game my older brother and I found out exsisted way after the PS2's lifespan.
I have the OG PS3 which plays PS1/2 games. One of my favourite PS2 games is Futurama. Bought it recently for a friend. Not sure if it's just that I'm a huge Futurama fan that I loved the game so much. I'd like to hear what people thought of it who've played it but were not fans of the show.
PS2 has support for older PS1 games, although the emulation of those games are generally not very good compared to the original PS1. But for what it's worth, PS2 does support the ability to play old games through Sony emulation and that's a good way to play those games aswell as the PS2 game titles. Technically unlocking two consoles game libraries the PS1 and the PS2. Aswell as the ability to play CD and DVD content like movies or song discs, it's a lot of fun to use the PlayStation 2 as it has a great variety of things one could use it for including turning it into a computer for example a Windows, Linux, Ubuntu computer. That's what makes the PS2 so unique.
Bought a ps2 at the start of covid in 2020 out of boredom. I got the console with two controllers and 12 games for 40 quid (including postage) absolute bargain of the century. Fast forward 4 years later and I'm still playing it. I play it more than my ps4. Me and my girlfriend have a blast playing it. Absolutely amazing console. It's fun as hell. I forgot gaming could actually be fun lol dearest game I've bought was 12 quid
Great video! It's always fun to hear someone talking about random video games and a most and much beloved console. Lol on the Sims though because I used to trap mine in a room and let them eventually succumb to whatever the hell they decided to do. Be it dying of starvation or shocking themselves with a toaster in the pool. But overall great job you've earned yourself a sub keep up the great work!
I just love the PS2. I love that era because of all the great RPGs and platformers. Games didn't have those legal contracts you now have to sign to play games nowadays. I think it's my favorite system.
Backwards compatible with PS1 games too!. Many more to get, you might like to seek out - Resident Evil series, Silent Hill series, Burnout series, Devil May Cry series, Colin McRae, Dead or Alive, Star Wars Star Fighter, Smuggler's Run, if you have a CRT and light guns, the Time Crisis games.
I still have my 30001 model from 2000. Just modded it for Hard Drive and have about 200 games on it. If the disc drive ever fails at least I can still use it.
Wipeout Fusion was pretty epic for this console. .. also, does anyone else remember when the first ps2 consoles were released they used to play the blue backed games? Then after sometime the laser failed on the machine, then the blue games would only play when the machine was flipped upside down and then after more time it refused to play the blue discs, decent console though.
What a Fantastic Video, I'm very please that Threads recommended it it to me 🙂 I love that you've highlighted so of my own favorite PS2 Titles (Big Up the OG Yakuza Massive!) as well the 1st Two Kingdom Hearts Games (You know when they were actually fun to play & not a massive headache to understand) My personal line in the sand for retro is they much argued, 20 years old marker. so I would certainly say that the PS2 is now Retro. Crackin' Video. can't wait to watch the next One 🙂
Thank you for mentioning Yakuza! Love the series & highly recommend it for anyone starting the series & too fully dive in more into the series, I'd also recommend Yakuza 0 for the PS4 to know more about every character's backstories to understand more lore in the future games. I''ll subscribe because you mentioned Peak! :D
I love the open world games such as the 3d GTA series, Getaway and True Crime. I suppose it started with Driver 1 and 2 on the PS1. I've been using Popstarter on the PS2 to play my old PS1 games off a USB drive. PS2rd came in handy to reconfigure the controls for Need for Speed High Stakes. I can now use the right analogue stick for acceleration and breaking and the left for steering.
I've had 3 fat PS2s just break, which is sad when I think about it, my slim ps2 has served me well, the tray has gone bad, but a little blue tack keeps it done to work! Yes to Ratchet and Clank, an incredible series that everyone should play. I liked the first jak and daxter, really didn't vibe with 2 and 3. Was never fond of how some cases could be a different colour like black or white, they stand out like a sore thumb among the majority that are blue. I'd recommend a platformer called Vexx!
I agree the PS2 is a good entry point to start collecting, especially since it got one of the largest games libraries out there. Although the most popular and sought after games will now cost £50-100 in average. But if you are starting then there are tons of games to pickup for under a tenner.
This is true, though If you're only just starting out a collection I doubt you'll be after the more sought after games! Most people will gravitate towards the more popular games such as GTA, spyro, etc. which all still under £10!
I recently hooked up my old PS2 got some modern wireless controllers and have been having a blast. Graphics on the early side of the library aren't much better than PS1 but by the end they were approaching PS3 level, especially games that supported progressive scan and higher resolutions. Load times tend to be bad from Disc, but the biggest problem is it was an awkward time in gaming history where everything went 3D, but controls were yet to be standardized. If you can overlook bad camera angles and non intuitive control schemes there is still a lot of fun to be had in the PS2 library. A lot of creativity and numerous games styles they either died off or never took off. The library is full of mediocre games, but not the volume of shovelware we saw on the WII. There truly are some gems abd you hit about some of the big ones. My challenge is committing to playing a game on the PS2 that was released on say the XBOX or game cube because those versions were slightly better. Also some of the classics have been remastered and easy to play with modern graphics and controls on newer consoles. But I think every gamer should own one and was an important time in gaming history
The PS2 had 4,000 games - about the same number as its predecessor, and the same as the Commodore Amiga in 1985. However each console usually only has about 50 games worth keeping.
My old ps2 with a modchip died a few years after getting it, the laser went out. I wish I'd have focused on getting the laser fixed as I had 200 games or so, all burned dvd's with labels.
I’m on a ps2 kick at the moment I’ve just got myself a few ps2 games that I didn’t already own I’ve had my ps2 for years now today I was able to get the first god of war which is a absolute fantastic game
I recently started collecting and recollecting ps2 and ps3 games for my collection. Talking about horror games in particularly, been looking for silent hill games and the prices of some of them are making my wallet cry😢😅
For me, the PS2 Slim is easier to clean, and the disc reading tends to be better. I had a regular PS2, and the launch titles became harder to read over time. I didn’t have that problem with my PS2 Slim. And as for cleaning, the PS2 Slim is easier to open, give a light dusting, and close, in order to keep its longevity up. I’ve had my PS2 Slim for over 15 years, and it still works perfectly.
I bought my original ps2 back in 2018 from cex for £20 unboxed. In my opinion ps2 is greatest console of all time just the library games and it was ahead of its time. Ps: did you know you can turn the Playstation logo the one thats located near the disc drive
I traded in my old PS2 slim back in the day (you usually had to do that to afford the latest and greatest). But I ended up getting the original PS2 from a co-worker years back just because she was done with it. It's been sitting in the closet for years now, but maybe it's time to dig it back out.
Several EA, Rockstar, Capcom, Ubisoft and Konami games...Burnout Series, Midnight Club, GTA, Manhunt, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Silent Hill, Metal Gear, NFS, 007, SSX, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia Trilogy...and a lot more.
I find PS2 and PS3 the best consoles as they were affordable and the game titles released were massive. I played the PS2 as a demo unit but ended up owning a PS3 and PSP 3000 in my teens which were short-lived due to hardware issues and had to junk them to local reseller. Unfortunately I sold the game titles since my Sony consoles were defunct to the same person - I was sad. Anyways console games never picked traction in my region/country as the market demand is focussed more on mobile casual games such as Candy Crush, Snake&Ladders, PUBG, COD etc. which sometimes is monotonous . Right now I want this console, PS3 and PSP since I'm planning to pursue masters in interaction design and want to explore video games as future of interaction design.
Love my ps2 never upgraded. The games are so cheap now as you say. Plus it's backwards compatible with the ps1.Love any of the rockstar games, NFS underground, gran turismo 🦡🤘⭐✌🧟♀️🖤
I have my PS2 game back ups just in case for my emulator just in case. I'm noticing my console was giving me issues. But I still go back and play some of its exclusives in my library.
Smaller Develeopers really loved the PS2 for some reason which gave it huge variety, PS3 has some good games but its a real shame Sony messed up the developing side of things in its architecture in the PS3 which basically meant all those smaller devs found it near impossible to programme for as it required huge amount of time and effort and specialised coding skill.

@@hadesmcfadden2982I used to play all the ps2 GameCube Wii U ps3 xbox360 games good some lag here and there with just a ryzen 3 and 8 gb of ram so a budget system can do emulate really good
the 5500 fat model is the one I highly recommend getting because not only does it have an expansion bay for storing games onto but also because it can be soft modded with Mechapwn to unlock it to play games from any region and also to play backup ps1 games which is extra important since the ps2 plays orginal playstation games flawlessy at their native resolutions. crispy scanlines if you still own a CRT television.
That's the PS2 model I own. And you're right, it is the best one to own. It was the final fat model to release before they went to the PS2 Slim.
I'm just getting back into Need for Speed Underground 2!!! 🎉❤😊😊😊 still got my ps2 slim and 60 gb ps3 which I've just got out of the cupboard!! Happy days 😊wish u all the best 👍
I liked playing the silent hill games on PS2
Same here
The reason I still want a ps2
I bought a ps2 last week from a charity shop for 25 quid and went down to cex for silent hill 2, couldn't believe it was 60quid and I couldn't afford it. Luckily my brother had it stashed and gave me it. True story. But I'm so happy I can play maximo and SH2. Happy days.
@@Smedley-d2l silent hill games are very expensive I have the Vita game and the sell on value is incredible
6:29 I remember I bought Ratchet and Clank, God of War, and Lego Star Wars for a total of $5. Three games for the price of one.
I would recommend the warriors by rockstar games, the game has a dark grimy atmosphere and really captures the new York crime ridden feel of the late seventies.
Absolutely my friend, its a great game.😊
I've got four PS2s. A few of them still have dedicated screens attached to them for portability.
I still have my original one that I got for Christmas in 2000, and other than the disc tray sticking a bit, it still works fine.
I bought a PS2 on launch which feels a very long time ago now. Definitely worth experiencing owning one once in your lifetime!
Acquired one at the time of launch. Still have it working. Hundreds of games.
PS2 and GTA: Vice City. What a sweet and nostalgic times. I want them back so badly☺️
The original units are built tough, mine hit the deck after being tangled and nothing loose inside still works like a charm after all these years.
Great list. The Sly games.. Hitman,Max Payne and Nfs MW and Def Jam. By far some of the best Ps2 games.
Thank you for this excellent video, a real injection of nostalgia and a wonderful trip down memory lane. So refreshing to find a gaming enthusiast channel that doesn't include any swearing.
Soul Caliber 2, Soul Caliber 3, THPS 1-4, THPS Underground 1,2, Midway Arcade Treasures, Midway Arcade Treasures volume 2,3,4, SNK NEO GEO Metal Slug collection, Capcom Collection volume 1, and all thegreat ps1 games like Die Hard Trilogy, THPS 1-3, etc.
Check Out Legaia 2: Duel Saga & PS2 Has My Fav Boot Up!
Great video Lyds! A legendary console generation that I'm glad to still own.
Particular games I'd add to the pile are:
the Crystal Dynamics era Tomb Raider games (fav version of Lara Croft)
the absolutely stellar TimeSplitters games
the Lord of the rings games that sit firmly atop the movie tie-in list.
Both Gran Turismo and NFS peaked on the PS2, as did Metal Gear. One game I don't see a lot of people talk about was Rumble Racing, a kind of hybrid between NASCAR and a kart racer with lots of big stuntable jumps and powerups.
Thanks Robin! 🫶
And some great recommendations too, there really are too many to list and I definitely forgot a lot 🤣
I really enjoy your content, it is always down to earth and to the point commentary. Keep up the good work:)
Thanks so much! 🥰
Rayman 2 The Great Escape I have for N64 and it is the best Rayman game of all
I got crazy taxi and Yakuza 2 on your recommendation and I love them. Keep on keeping on oh sister of the microchip and the sprite! ❤
So glad to hear you loved them!!
I bought a Sony Trinitron crt tv 3 weeks ago and now Im currently learning how to play PS2 games off a micro sd card, I love the PS2 so much.
I like your game collection/set up. I'm working on my ps2 games collection at them moment. When I've done with that I'm going to work on building back up my Dreamcast collection.
I'm lucky I bought quite a few of these back in the day and now I'm looking at the prices and thinking I might sell them haha
God of War 1 + 2... Final Fantasy XII... GTA San Andreas... Mercenaries... So many fond memories!
Had a PlayStation 2.... Still got a slim one hooked up to a CRT TV 👍
The PS2 can also be modded to store and play games off a hard drive using the network adapter and a program stored in the memory card.
You can still find everything required for modifying the PS2 online.
Modifying also extends the life of the PS2 being it greatly reduces wear on the PS2 lens.
It can play emulators too
@@Matrixtruesaiyan Wow. I think I left the scene before the emulators but recently returning to my modded PS2 I was surprised to see a community still thriving with greater advancements.
I still have my original launch PS2 and it still works perfectly, they dont build them like that anymore plus get the HDD adapter and a free mcboot memory card and you can do all sorts with it
I have missed your videos and your smile
I've never heard of it! Going to check it out now 😍
The Gameplay screenshots remind me a lot of Slave Zero! It's on the Dreamcast, I'd recommend checking out if you can access it, it's a fun game!
I have this. Its okay to me.
Yes great point!
Love this! It's definitely got a lot of charm that modern games often miss!
Scarface: The World Is Yours. One of the best games based on a film, and a game that was kinda ahead of its time and still holds up pretty good.
I still have my 30001 model from 2000. Just modded it for Hard Drive and have about 200 games on it. If the disc drive ever fails at least I can still use it.
I seriously need to get a PS2 added to my collection, I have the xbox, gamecube & dreamcast. This generation of gaming was golden 🤗✨️💚
I have a modded PS2 paired with components cables + Retrotink 5xPro upscaler, games look great upscaled to 1080p on the large OLED TV.
Thank you for your lovely comment, so glad to hear you enjoyed the guides 😊
I never got rid of mine. it's still packed away somewhere
I got a PS2 some years ago just to play Silent Hill 2 and 3 and have gradually built up the collection. Good other games here too.
I bought mine during the Pandemic. I love it.
PS2 fat with an internal SSD running through the CRT is my jam!
sharks tale, surfs up,finding nemo and so many cool kids games i bought my son on this console ,he had over 70 games .
@@Lydgendary Yes tons of good and cheap games, can't go wrong with all those awesome platform games for the system for example
Good advice ! Ps2 certainly hosted great games. Maximo, The Getaway, Midway Arcade Treasures to name a few. Super video. Liked and connected 👍🏻
One of my regrets was selling my PS2 slim in a car boot sale, 11 years ago. I did last year find my original Xbox in the loft though.
Just found your channel . Enjoy your style an videos like these that are more simple just talking about the title !
Still have the PS2 I brought from a friend about 12 years ago, but none of my controllers work sadly.
The PS2 had 4,000 games - about the same number as its predecessor, and the same as the Commodore Amiga in 1985.
However each console usually only has about 50 games worth keeping.
The 6th gen was definitely the best IMO. The games hold up today graphically and ones like Burnout and SSX are still a blast to play on PS2.
Agree, picked a nice one up today!
I've got the pink slimline one with 2 controllers and they are going for £160 in CEX atm :O
Also to pick up the RetroTINK 2x-Pro and HD retrovision cables for the best experience on a newer TV.
They’re available online that we got in 2000s it’s like going back in past.
I still have 2 ps2's. I play a shooter Black all the time. Love r&c, moh, and call of duty. Also have 1 molded for ps1 games. Stilla blast
I bought my original ps2 back in 2018 from cex for £20 unboxed. In my opinion ps2 is greatest console of all time just the library games and it was ahead of its time.
Ps: did you know you can turn the Playstation logo the one thats located near the disc drive
You finished off strong with that Urbz game
Splinter cell chaos Theory and God of War 1+2 Was the reason i bought a PS2 and since then I've never looked back
Omg, thank you for talking about rez. Forgot i had it for dreamcast. Quids in!!!
Yeah, that original chunky PlayStation🎮2 is just so beautiful...🤘🏼💯✔️
Bought my PS2 3 years ago in a charity shop for 35 £. The console was in perfect condition.
If your into anime, Inuyasha Feudal Combat is super fun! It was always my favorite gem on the PS2.
