Kevin is very accurate with this conversation. My mother was a high earning woman, and I have no memories of her attempting to act masculine or dominant. My father passed, and she always had men trying to marry her. She finally married her husband, and even though she made twice his income, she relinquished control over the finances to her husband. I even asked her if she loved him, and she said that she knew he would be good to her and take care of her. That was enough for me, and I supported her wisdom. Btw, 20+ years later, they're happily married and enjoying retirement together.
Please don’t think I am being overly critical of this situation, however I can’t help but cringe when you made it clear your mother didn’t love her second husband. That man clearly loved her otherwise he wouldn’t have married her. As a man being seen as a provider and caretaker would not be anywhere near close enough to warrant marriage.
