@Mark Lucchese Because there's no role playing in it. RPG means ROLE PLAYING GAME! Where's the role playing in Dungeon Siege? And don't tell me it's the choosing of class and party, because that will make you look like a complete dumbass! Dungeon Siege is hack and slash action fantasy and nothing more. You wanna know what real RPG is? Go play games like the Gothic series, Fallout 1 and 2, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, the Ultima series... and don't even try to compare Dungeon Siege with these games
@@Eunostos Never heard of it? Every computer RPG is in fact a CRPG! The "C" stands for "computer"! Unfortunately, no one uses this term anymore, everyone calls them RPG. DS might be considered one, but it's NOT, because there is nothing RPG (or CRPG, if you wish) about it. The Ultima games are real CRPG's! Gothic is a real CRPG! The Witcher series are real CRPGs! The Mass Effect games are real CRPGs! DS is a fantasy hack and slash, just like the Diablo series. Too bad the gaming industry is so fucked up these days, they're blending genres and there's more nonsense like that all over it. Games like DS and Diablo are NOT inspired by real RPG's life Dungeon and Dragons, they originate from rougelike dungeon crawlers instead... and there's nothing rpg about those. You can say DS is fantasy, action, hack and slash, adventure and you'll be right... just don't say it's a role playing game, because there's ZERO role playing in it!
a dying character really isn't that gamebreaking. you resurrect him, select him, auto loot everything he dropped, and he's fully equipped again. btw, characters don't get teleported to you when far enough away and you can store spells in books to save bag space
One of my favorite games that I grew up on! Love Dungeon Siege and I return to it every few years for that nostalgia hit. One aspect I never see anyone mention that made the game so great for me was the amount of spells available. If you love playing a caster class (which I do) this game was amazing. Going from start to end you never ran into a spell that was simply a copy of a previous spell, unlike in Dungeon Siege 2 which just had tiers of the exact same spell. You start off with generic spells like fireball and zap, but then would get stuff like acid glyph, then later bomb spray, spheres, summons, transformations, and so many unique spells! Magic never got boring in this game and honestly more games need to look at this to see how diverse a magic systen can be.
The fact that the characters evolve on what they use, is what makes this game interesting for me. So, to me, it has a character deveoplement. The character is also bound by the type of gear it can use. For example, a ranger eventually will not be able to use melee armour as it requires strength. This way, no tanky archers. So, there's that. I do love this game, I grew playing it, and it was a huge blast in our LAN parties. Such amazing memories. I still play it from time to time.
Ctrl click to move items between inventory. Soloing on hard is the best way to play. Mass party is okay but you'll run out of money for everyone. Solo is crazy hard but ensure you get the top gear. Mules are the best ever. DS1 isn't bad at all. 180 hours on it and going.
The replay value is there for me. I went through the game and expansion with an all rounder party, then with an all melee party, then all archer, all nature magic, then finally, one character only on hard.
If you play the second one, and enjoy it. There is a legendary mod that was updated as of April 2018. It takes the improvements made in the sequel to ui, skill points are brought over, improved map and teleporting to town, an resoawns like in DS2. It is fantastic improvement. Allows you to start from DS1 an go all the way to the end of DS2 no expansions needed, but has more for both 1&2's expansion.
Thanks for this. I love the length of your reviews, the depth, and your calm (but not boring) voice! I'm subscribing and probably gonna watch a shit-ton of your reviews. :)
I did Dungeon Siege in 30 hrs and Legends Of Aranna in 20 hrs, but I explored every corner and did all the quests :) The reason is I had to manage my full party of 8... and I'm a tourist (screeeeeenssss :))) Nice video :) Now I'm playing on Hard difficulty mode.
Legends of Aranna is included in the Steam version I purchased during the 2018 Winter sale, although it isn't listed as such on the store page. And it cost $1.
Great review! I loved both games and because of your vid, I just installed them again :) About the loot: There was a spell, which changed unwanted items into money, so in my memory managing the inventory wasn't that annoying. Yes, you lose a bit of money doing that over selling them properly, but like you said, the alternative was to leave the items behind. So I just "sold" the smaller/worthless items via the spell and carry the magical items to the next town. I never had trouble having not enough money, this worked really well. Anyway, thanks for the great video! :)
i would just like to emphasize that this game *is* magic and has a few big points of difference... what the reviewer said kind of early in the review about the feeling of being on an adventure is where it's at... You genuinely trudge on and on with your party for full kilometers, different zones are not quick and it can feel relentless and daunting in the most absorbing way. I straight up equated the feeling of this game to LOTR (mainly beacause of my mania for it at the time, but it does have a high fantasy quest feeling).. there's a part in a forest where you happen upon a gypsy camp... this feels really isolated and oppressive because this camp is the 'breath of fresh' air you're permitted to take AFTER you've passed through *multiple* cave systems (goblins, crystal shards) and the first half of that troll-infested forest. Ask a couple of RL friends of mine and they'll confirm that we all shared our first experience of Dungeon Siege while seamlessly fighting almost to that forest in a single night of gaming in our early teens, we just couldn't stop. It's really wonderful. IF you can still find the time in your daily routine.
you didnt try Dungeon Siege's multiplayer? though it does help to have friends and a fully maxed out char the multiplayer of Dungeon Siege has a world bigger than the single player.
Great video!!! Dungeon Siege: LoA always had a special place in my heart. I remember buying it from Office Max as well as Glover for N64 and fastly grew addicted to the former. It was my first real venture into Computer Gaming and RPG's. Thank you for doing it justice!!
Hey I was thinking of reinstalling this for days and I did. Since last time though I've upgraded to Windows 10 and it only works on window mode at like 40-50 fps despite any change in launch parameters etc. Fullscreen won't work at all, only on Win 7. The menu just goes black. Anyone that has managed to run it the way it was meant to be played? All tips welcome besides downgrading :P
nice review. i'd recommend Guild Wars 1 trilogy + EoTN for a 4-8 man party based hack and slash with deeper party customization / deck building and a sprawling world with 3 different continents. it's playable even with AI members and they somewhat hold their own like in Dungeon Siege once you set them up properly, watch an optimized team mowing through mobs in Hard Mode is very satisfying :)
Several fixes and mods that both improve appearance and unlock game features that were disabled in official release are available. Have you tried any of them ? There are even additional NPC that you can add to your party.
I played & loved this game & torchlight, so I tried baldurs gate but my problem is same as you I die alot , so I switched to jrpgs & srpgs, I mean instead of playing diablo it's better to play final fantasy or dragon quest series
So here i am watching your review and id like to tell you i really love this game. Always have. (April 2019) Now in the beginning at around 8:36 about getting your characters on the platform which according to you is difficult. It would have been great that if you do a review about Dungeon Siege you actually look at all the options and capabilities the game offers regarding the party management. now if at 8:36 you look at the far Right corner you see the option of 3 dots a line infront and a arrow pointing to one dot. If you click on that you disable the auto follow and can select and move your party members by themselves. its VERY EASY to get them on platforms and not everything has to be automated. but in the expansion they have added automated because they listened to some fans who were not happy because they overlooked it and wanted it automated (as in getting on a platform with 1 click). here a link to a mod site . ds.gemsite.org www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/850 www.zhixalom.com/lair/category/dungeon-siege-1/.
"some fans"? Don't act like getting your entire party on a platform is easy or fun. It's the worst part of the game, a complete oversight. In LoA and DS2, it's how it should have been all along. Also, needing to dig through party options in the UI to get them to do what you want is hysterically bad game design.
10:30 .. "Because any character can specialize in anything and outside of being higher level no character will function differently than any other. Your hero character never feels any different or special.." etc The point of these games were to be played in the company of friends and enjoy the company whilst doing something, not in bragging about your e-dick as it is today. There were always disputes about "what's best" but these were kept at a minimum, either by pure chance of life or by choice of devs, so you can focus on the interaction with your friends more. It's stuff like this that you won't find in new games where it's all about one-upping. Just relax and enjoy for fuck sake.
Despit what people say I liked the story so DS. It was simple and ganeric, and I don't like a story unless it intarests me (few game stories do) and I was intarested in the story once I got the the Goblin. But the part from stonebridge to the adventurers camp has almost no story, other than ther overseer telling you how stupid you are.
anyone have any clue why his dungeon seige in the video looks so much better than steam version or am I just crazy? It almost looks remastered in a way to me is it literally just because its on CD?
the worst things about this game is that potions take so much inventory spaces and filling up buying potions for 4 or 5 or 6 chars may damage your arms. 1 inventory space for 1 potion that can run out in 1 or 2 seconds and go back and fill up for few 100's more. naaah... how about buy potion and type 100 instead of clicking and dragging and dropping few 100's times this game is not like RPG, it is more like alien shooter 2.
Actually, never like any game of this franchise - always felt either boring or frustrating, unlike Diablo, Torchlight. Shit, I've played a lot of Hellgate:London and imo it was better than Dungeon Siege
I loved Dungeon Siege as Kid :D Played it hour hour. In my opinion still one of the best RPG
You're delusional if you think Dungeon Siege is an RPG.
Me too!

Yes. That mod looks incredible.

Still the best "Squad-Based" dungeon crawler.
Very good review, just slow down a little bit.

Me and one of my friends started playing multiplayer with each other recently.
Yeah, bigger, emptier and way more bland and boring than the single player world!
Great review of an old favorite, Dungeon Siege is such as kick ass game.
how did you play with widescreen
Underrated PC game !! I honestly love the game that has single player campaign and also has cooperative multiplayer through the campaign too !!!

For some reason my mouse feels accelerated on this game, so while playable, I had to rely a lot on the keyboard shortcuts for auto (doing something).

I appreciate all the effort that goes into making each video consistent and professional . You deserve more subs.

a party based combat rpg like that without ap I could * not * play.
hi

You going to do DS2 and 3?
Briana Banks and Jasmine Webb. Old school pornstar right here lol. Good video sir (good taste too haha).

gaming pastime have u ever played the monkey island games it's one of the funniest games I've ever played
I have not. I've heard of the series, though.
had a really hard time getting into this game and ended up uninstalling it, started playing dungeon siege 2 and it's waaaaay better
I would love a review for Ultima V - Lazerus but I'd probably be one of only 5 people interested in it lol.

Right? It isn’t a speed reading contest!
thanks bro
