I ran back to Kroth after killing Gom and made all of my champions face the camera so in the save file thumbnail it would show them all looking heroic. Running all the way back to the beginning area would take hella long!

    1/14/2024 update
In case anyone sees this comment, I want to inform people that new content is being made by the fans. There are several mods released in the last 3 years that are fantastic and worth looking into if you want more Dungeon Siege content.
We've put a lot of effort into well crafted mods and campaigns - plus brand new content to further diversify items and monsters.

I wonder if he will do one on Sacred as well. Game vise I think it suffered a similar fate with the third one being a total flop. There even was a project called Unbended that was suppose to bring back Sacred to it's original roots but that died a few years ago.

Dungeon Siege 2 was a classic, my friends and I had soooo much fun local co-op’ing that back in the day.
Conversely, Dungeon Siege 3 was one of the games that learned me the hard lesson to never, ever pre-order expensive, limited edition copies of a game based on pedigree alone. We were so disappointed. :(

Dungeon Siege One was epic, and clearly the best in the series. The lesson here is to NOT listen to the LOUD minority because they will lead you away from what made you great. Had Gas Powered Games stuck with their original formula, I think they would have gone on to create a game nearly as good as the Baldur's Gate series. Sad...Dungeon Siege was one of my favorite games in that genre and played it for hours and hours.

    • @FafikGrapodol
      @FafikGrapodol 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, I'll be honest here - who cares about a story in an action rpg anyway? This is not what those games are for. This game slaps as it did back then. Buncha lord of the rings nerds I swear. All of that bullshit in cutscenes of DS2 was best being skipped anyway. If a story is not clever nor engaging it's useless and DS1 was designed as if they kept that in mind.

"I wanted more Dungeon Siege... and whatever this is, (DS3) is NOT Dungeon Siege" ...Ross Scott, 2015.
GearBox should have never listened to those "critics". All that they critized DS1 for, is what made it unique and great. I was a big fan of DS1 and its expansion "Legends of Arrrranna", DS2 felt a bit lackluster but it was fine even if not as good as the original. But DS3... is a trasvesti.

We were round about 10 people and they played all kind of games, we both just played Dungeon Siege 2 for DAYS! All people around us played Counterstrike, Command and Conquer, Warcraft 3 etc., we didn´t care about this fact :D
It was awesome and we can´t get enough of it... It´s a memory i never forget, sounds weird, but it´s the truth! It´s so many years ago, i am 37 years old right now and i remember these days like it was yesterday. Great game!

Dungeon Siege has a special place in my heart. I first played the game when my uncle let me borrow the CD for it. Never parted with it since. RPG games I usually played was JRPG's of Final Fantasy, Shadow Madness for the PSX. But this easily takes the cake, no loading screens, the satisfying death sounds of enemies after hacking away at their health, and the seamless moving from boundaries and places, it was amazing ❤
Sad to hear it isn't as big as ot was before, but its legacy on how Dungeon Siege started will always shine out of its tine of existence.

When I was 11 I wasn't allowed to get Diablo 2 since my dad played the first one and I'd watch, but because of the tone and all that jazz he didn't think it was suitable for someone my age at the time, so instead got me Dungeon Siege 1 as a way meet in the middle and I was hooked. Eventually I went on to Diablo 2, 3, Torchlight, T2, and now Path of Exile and Hero Siege, but I still fondly look back and still load up Dungeon Siege LoA and Dungeon Siege 2 every so often just to reminisce and play-through them again.

Also managed to replay DS2 last year with a LAN party of three(couples mode). DS2 still holds up!
Love the effort put into backtracking for better gear.
We're currently playing Divinity original sin 2 and while it is amazing on almost all fields, I can't seem to shake off the feeling taht the world has moved on a lot since then, to a far less patient audience.

"If they had a little more financial levy, they would have pushed for a more rich experience..."
What? That's BS, at that time it was popular to dumb-down everything for the consoles, which non-gamers bought more than ever before. Simplicity was forced throughout the industry, and that was helped/forced by the fact that big publishers now owned most the studios.

I played the original all the way through, and the Legends of Aranna expansion. My most significant issue was the linearity of the game. It was "follow the yellow brick road." You couldn't return to an area and have monsters re-spawn, and there was really only one path through the game. I was hoping for something more open-world. Really, more like the old Ultima games I played in the eighties and nineties -- a world you could live in and learn to survive in and explore in a nonlinear way. I played Dungeon Siege 2 part way through, but found I couldn't get into it as much as I did with the first one. Haven't tried the third installment.

DS2 on the other hand, was a pain in the ass to get to work on a modern computer, and I had to apply hack upon hack just to get it to load (with A LOT of help from internet resources). Managed in the end though, and man it’s a great game!
Beats Diablo 3 handily imo, and I have quite a few paragon levels under my belt.

Back when I owned a PS3 during my high school days, I was wondering whether or not I should buy Dungeon Siege 3 in 2011. I was focused on buying RPGS to fill the void like Dragon Age, Demon Souls, White Knight Chronicles and Oblivion and had a blast playing them way more than Final Fantasy 13. Plus I've heard a lot of negative things about the game like gameplay, story, writing and voice acting (even though big talented Voice Actors like Crispen Freeman, Laura Bailey, Gideon Emerys and Robin Downe Atkins are in it). So I skipped on it and brought a few Assassin's Creed games. But whenever I saw TH-cam Walkthroughs of Dungeon Siege 3, I felt like part of me should have brought the game and played it so I can have my own opinion of the game, but I owned a PS4 during my College years and it was too late.

Is it me or is DS1 and DS2's soundtrack much more memorable than any other Dungeon Crawler out there?

The soundtracks were made by Jeremy Soule.

If we talk about Chris Taylor, what about Rise an fall of Total Annihilation? Another good brand, which lies down with no chance for proper sequel.

Moral of the story: NEVER let Use Boll adapt your game series. It'll end your projects. That's what got the Bloodrayne games killed (that and Midway's closure).

Narrator sounds like the guy from the 'How it's made/Modern Marvels" series on TV. I felt like I was watching this in some future gaming museum amphitheater. ;-p

it would be a short video, but another great dark rpg that had issues is "Demonicon". It's currently still on steam, buy it and give it ago if you like dark rpg's or games like dragon age origins.

made me nostalgic. it was a really good game. it was just unlucky - in 2005 WoW hit EU andmost of rpg fans forgot about other games that were not WoW for many many years.

I didn't think the story was that lackluster in the first game. If you really paid attention and read the various books lying on the ground and talked to all the NPC's you can understand what is happening. Legends of Aranna did a better job at this than the Kingdom of Ehb campaign. DS2 definitely made it more immersive though. I think it should have been mentioned how fun the multiplayer aspects were of the first game during the era when gamespy was still up. The dedicated multiplayer Utraean Peninsula map and its many secrets, with all regions connected via a HUB; and the plethora of mods that came with it.

Recently just started 2, and the impression I got was that while the first game didn't have enough features, the 2nd had too many. Enchantment sounded like a good concept on paper, but in reality the finished product is still far inferior to some of the fixed drops from bosses or chests
Weapon and armor shops are even more barebone compared to the first game, half the time you end up finding superior equipment instead of buying them
There were a lot of quests too, much of it requires backtracking to specific points in previous areas that you might not remember where they were (like finding all the ghosts)
