  • In this video, We discuss our strategy for stimulating colonies during the dearth by use of protein supplement and light syrup. This process has become vital in our success. We take you along with us while we feed and discuss why we provide feed and supplements to our colonies. We hope you find this video informative and helpful. Thanks for watching and Happy Beekeeping.

    Thanks for the information. It definitely helps with brood production going into fall if you feed pollen sub and sugar water. Glad to see they took that thymol well. Everything looking good at your place. Good help too. Thanks Craig.

    Those singles that are a little behind from others I like to throw a frame of open brood to get that queen really laying it up. That smell of open brood really helps.
    Looking good fellas👍

      It works pretty well. Still constantly trying to learn. As soon as we think we know what we are doing the bees prove us wrong. Thanks Kathy.

    I do very similar on most my hives, only I skip the pollen sub. Hives beetles are bad but some of my hives are nearly pollen bound bow lol. Beekeeping is all about adjusting to what is going on in your location. GOD Bless

    Hey Craig. Great video. Just south of you. How often do you refill feeders and how many rounds? Thank you.

      During the summer we try to feed thin syrup a quart or so a week. It doesn’t have to be a lot, unless they need stores. To stimulate a small trickle of syrup works well. Just use caution and don’t plug the brood nest with syrup. They generally use the thin syrup for food and brood rearing if you don’t over do it. It’s kind of a balancing act. Thanks for watching Hope

      @@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Thank you Craig. I top feed with quart jars under buckets and nearly went broke in the past refilling. Now I have something to go by. Am feeding 1.5 - 1 water to sugar.

    Here in North central West Virginia we have Sourwood blooming, but it's probably close to the end... I been feeding and supplying pollen pretty much all year because I split them so much. It makes me feel better that I see others doing this too. I felt crazy putting .8:1 on my colonies every week or two. They are drawing like crazy though. I should have an extra 250-300 frames drawn by end of August in time for the golden rod flow.

      Glad to hear you are having a good season. The stimulation works very well. It’s amazing to harness all the bee power to draw comb after the flow. But with feeding it’s possible and works very well. Sounds like you’re well on your way to overwintering well. Thanks for tuning in.

    Even if there are 2 full boxes of bees isn't it technically better to put it with in the brood nest if possible for quick consumption? Maybe a dumb question but do they eat the thymol or just track it around the hive?

    • @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924
      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They just track it around so to speak. They don’t consume it. We keep it in the brood area of the colony. We generally place the second and third dose in different areas to try to get the best coverage.

      @@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 so in your opinion dribble or the pad/glop? or am I getting chemical/treatment types confused? looks like I'll be going into winter with 10 to 12. Just wanting to be prepared ahead of time.

    • @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924
      @thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dcsblessedbees I think you are confusing oxalic acid dribble and apiguard. I don’t have much experience with the dribble. We use the pad and syringe. Keep in mind that apiguard also comes in aluminum pre-dosed trays. For smaller quantities.
