I love Ryobi. We decided to stick with Ryobi due to their battery system and all the different tools we could use with it, and it's saved my family time and time again...
But Ryobi needs change their battery placement. Keep the connection, keep the form factor, just change how it's placed onto the tool. I would have even been happy if they would have flipped the battery around for these tools.
Ryobi, if you ever want a product designer to give you some input on battery improvements without leaving "the Ryobi battery shape" behind, contact me.

It's fun to see a 3/8 drive impact wrench try and do the lugs... But in a practical sense... I would always use my 1/2" impact to do that work. I'm looking forward to the new line up... But my current Ryobi tools have to die first.

We used it at the top of its rated ability and it removed 1 of 3. Not bad for a shallow well socket. I agree, this is not for lugs, but nice to know what it can do.

My whole box is ryobi and is more than follows 2x brushless drills, 1x brushless impact driver, 1x brushless 3/8 wrench, 1x brushless grinder, 1x electric ratchet, 1x multi tool aka dremel, 1x brushless skillsaw, 1x Sawzall, and over 13 batteries excluding all the extras. Would HIGHLY recommend the tools for the budget friendly people because they have truly made leaps and bounds over the past years.

I have a Snapper Yard Curser 42" law mower. I had been taking it to a local lawn mower show from where I bought it years ago.
This lawn mower's claim that you can tilt it up on it's back to change the blades and grease it.
You need to be a football linebacker to get this thing tilted up so what I did it put a chain hoist around a telephone pole in my back
yard, hoot the chain to the front bumper of the lawn mower and wrench it up.
Normally the bolt on each blade is kind of hard to remove. I used my socket wrench to remove the bolt but no luck. I even tried my
Ryobi full size 18v drill to see if it would work but no luck.
I went to plan "B" and got my Ryobi 18v grinder out and used the grinding wheel to sharpen the blades while they were still on
    the mower.
I guess the people at the lawn mower shot used an impact wrench to put the bolts on.
I figured if I rented a motorcycle trailer to take it over there and back and have them service it it would probably cost about $150 or
more. If I buy the Ryobi impact tool and it worked I would save money. I wouldn't have any use other for this tool.
I just wish those guys didn't tighten the bolts so tight.

What I'd really like to see is a few things: (1) make the mid-range impact wrench (R18IW7-0) available in the U.S.; it's only available in the AU/NZ/UK and has a 1/4" adapter that turns it into a impact driver. (2) release a new full size brushless 1/2" impact wrench that is comparable to the Ridgid R86011. And finally (3) new HP batteries that use the popular high-current 21700 cells that other tool brands are using, but that Ryobi only uses in the compact 3.0 ah battery.

@workshopaddicts auto reverse isn't for stopping when impacts stop, it's made to stop when any resistance stops meaning the nut is almost off. That is to ensure the nut doesn't go flying off the stud or bolt and hit the ground running

The fact that ryobi is ALWAYS in the conversation with it's industrial or professional strength counterparts should say something about it. You're paying less for a pretty decent tool.
MANY professionals do use ryobi and have had success with the brand. For DIY'ers and moderate usage, you can't get a better bang for your buck. I've tried many brands, still love ryobi.

Could you do a comparison of the new 1.5 battery with the old 1.5? I know there's not enough there for a full video, but just a weight and size comparison would be nice to see. Would like to know if it's similar to the Ridgid idea where they actually managed to shave the physical dimensions of the battery down a fair amount.

The other Ryobi brushless tools perform notably better under load with the HP series packs vs the Lithium/Lithium+ packs that lack the extra tabs that provide a little extra current when needed (like driving huge lags, driving a larger hole-saw/forsner bit, breaking lug nuts free, etc..). Feels like Ryobi is shooting themselves in the foot bundling these with a pair of crappy 1.5 ah starter packs vs one of their P195 / 3.0 ah compact HP packs.

  • @ThatOneGuyMatt

I see this is a torture test but normally any 3/8 won't take off a 160 ft lb lug nut. With tools like this you have to consider application. Ryobi is a damn good brand for light to mid duty stuff. Even my snap on 14.4v 3/8 has trouble sometimes with normal stuff

I feel like it is plastic and I wouldn't doubt it, because it seems Ryobi is really trying to make the best tool with the cheapest construction. Basically more for a DIYer. Which is fine because they are good at doing that. Yet, if that is plastic, I think I'll pass and get something more in my other batteries I own, M12 and M18.

Ridgid is the same way on the sub-compact. BUT, the electronics are a huge deal. This is good for Ryobi owners.

They're thinking that they made a promise to their customers that they would always support their One+ line and they'd never change their battery style. That has to have been a hard thing to stick to, so I commend them for being one of the few companies that actually keeps their promise to their customers. That's extremely rare these days.

I am not a huge fan of Ryobi power tools. Their batteries are old school by design. I do own a Ryobi 18v string trimmer and I am happy with that but I will go run out and stock up on Ryobi tools. I do own quite a few Ridgid power tools and my Ridgid Gen 5 hammer drill keeps popping off the battery while in use. I need to deal with that because it is a piss off. Nothing like drilling a hole and the battery comes loose. I have the Milwaukee 3/8" stubby and it has done everything I have wanted it to do. But I will say, I am going to be looking a little harder at the Dewalt line up.

They are stuck using the same battery and it does not work well for compact. You are right.
