This is a patently false comment. It has been attributed to Clapton saying go ask Prince, Hendrix saying go ask Phil Keaggy etc, etc, etc........................ I think this has been attributed to about a thousand different guitarists saying it's a thousand different guitarists.
They performed Brothers In Arms at Nelson Mandela’s 50th birthday anniversary. The song was so popular in South Africa that the “powers that be” asked who the royalties should go to. When he said “Amnesty International” they banned the group from performing there. SA has corrected their racial prejudice somewhat since then. 😊❤
It was filmed in July 1983 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. I was18 and I was there, on the balcony. The whole place was rocking, we thought the building was going to fall apart! This is one of the best live recordings you will ever see! Obviously, Mark Knopfler, guitar, vocals, genius, was brilliant, but so were John Illsley on the Bass, Hal Lindes on rhythm guitar, Alan Clark on keys (with back up from Tommy Mandell) For me, the star was Terry Williams on the drums, absolutely fabulous! Now, lovely lady, you have to react to the Alchemy Live version of Telegraph Road, it'll blow your mind even more!
Great reaction, I think it is arguably the best guitar playing I've ever seen. How on earth he was able to sing, play, and joke around with the band all at the same time and everyone kept in perfect sych through the whole performance, I can't fathom!
Bob Dylan had the recorded version of this song played for him by someone in his crew and said, I want that guitarist to play on my record. And it happened. Knopfler played on record and in concert with Dylan as well as producing two of Dylan's albums, I believe.
At the moment you pick out the drummer (Terry Williams) watch the lead (Mark Knopfler) and the bassist (John Illsey) both turn and look at him in recognition of the insane fill he played. Allegedly Terry's dad was in the audience seeing him play for the first time so Terry went all in. True or not, this whole thing is a masterclass in live playing.
I am 76. This is the best live performance I have ever heard. All the band members are masters of their instruments and they are so together as they play.
i love how much space for expression they leave each other. this is a band. like queen. they are friends. not a made up band. some people like each other and have the idea of making music. with all ups and downs. and i am stoked how fast you got the melody and the vibe. you feel it^^
While musical styles have fused and run together, do remember that blues and rock have their ultimate ancestors in your part of the world. Every bluesman, every rock legend, is tapping into a wellspring that came out of Africa. I'm a folk musician, I play the traditional songs of these islands in the Atlantic. So it does my heart good to see the circle being completed and rock and blues coming home to you. your reaction was a joyous thing to watch. Keep 'em coming :)
masterclass masterpiece. drummer just like ac/dc was so great and was noticed by many. but marks guitar playing is so crispy its ridiculous lol and then with his story telling voice. piano player superb great band nuff said. need to do 'telegraph road' its even greater than this.
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. It's nice that you enjoyed it so much.🤗 What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making a living like that wouldn't suck.
I was a 19-year old kid when I saw them on this tour (1983) and we came out of the show as worn out and sweaty as the band. Pure energy!! DS-accept no substitute. 🫡❤️🤘🏼
Great reaction. You are indeed a lady of great taste. You would enjoy the live version of Tunnel of Love or Money for nothing by Dire Straits. Mark's guitar playing is superb and one of the few guitar player who makes me very emotional with his playing.
This song is about the band out in London in the rain and hear a jazz band music coming from a pub and go in..the band inside were called the sultans of swing❤
I was told the drummers dad was in the audience and had never seen him play Which is why he went all out. the second guitarist is Mark Knopflers brother. You Know you're good (Mark) when Bob Dylan and George Harrison ask you to be in their supergroup. Other news, Mark Knopfler bought that guitar with his pocket money and couldn't afford a plectrum. so he learned to play pray loose, with his fingers. very difficult.
I'm pleased that you enjoyed your Dire Straits experience they are great, they have made loading of great music, every member of this group are great musicians, thank you for your reaction, 🌹
What a beautiful review you gave! Thank you so much for posting this. I’m 74 years old and used to listen to their music on my record player, then CD Player all the time!
Hi nice channel and reaction. This is my favorite band. I recommend the song Brothers In Arms from Dire Straits Live "On The Night" 1992. It's one of my favorite performances. Cheers, all the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸
A magnificent performance, a beautiful story song. It's a ten. Would you believe me if I told you they topped it at the same concert? Try 'Telegraph Road'.
Eventually try to listen to: "Sailing to Philadelphia", which is a totally different, but also a very beautiful song. It's the story about the mapping of a border line in the USA, between the North, without Slavery, and the South, in difficult terrain, made by two Englishmen called over to do it.
Please play som African Guitar music for the world to hear . Frends from west africa and southern Africa have player some fantastic music for me from their homes .
I'm an older guy and I remember seeing them in concert and they were really underrated they are such a great band there's not many bands that actually can play their instruments so well as they are and by the way you're a beautiful host I think I'm going to subscribe to you because you make me feel happy and smiley
A reporter once asked Prince what it felt like to be the best guitarist of all time. His reply was, "I don't know. Go ask Mark Knopfler".
Only one GOAT and he goes by the name Knopfler.
Classic !
This is a patently false comment. It has been attributed to Clapton saying go ask Prince, Hendrix saying go ask Phil Keaggy etc, etc, etc........................ I think this has been attributed to about a thousand different guitarists saying it's a thousand different guitarists.
the whole Alchemy concert was like this. Unmatched energy and talent. There will never be anyone like them. 💖💖💖
I think this is the greatest live rock performance of all time. Great song and great band.

Lucky yours! 🙏 Cheers from Portugal!
So jealous of your experience. What a performance!
Best live performance ever 😊😊😊
I’m 72 and have seen or heard all the great drummers, but this guy Terry Williams is the greatest ever!!!
Best live concert ever done! Everything from Dire Straits is unique and brilliant.
You witnessed one of the top 5 , live , rock n roll, performances of all time!
Great reaction, I think it is arguably the best guitar playing I've ever seen. How on earth he was able to sing, play, and joke around with the band all at the same time and everyone kept in perfect sych through the whole performance, I can't fathom!
Because as Chet Atkins said he is Mark Knoffler.
I'd argue Brian Mays guitar playing on the live version of Brighton Rock was a one off performance as well.
Talent ! and a lot of practice, by the time he recorded Sultans he was 30
Bob Dylan had the recorded version of this song played for him by someone in his crew and said, I want that guitarist to play on my record. And it happened. Knopfler played on record and in concert with Dylan as well as producing two of Dylan's albums, I believe.
Mark has just sold 100 of his guitars 🎸 at christies auction for over £8 million for charity😊
Mark Knopfler is one of the few people who doesn't play the guitar, but makes the guitar sing.
The Finger Picking is often overlooked! Fabulous Guitar Player.......
Number one on the top five. Greatest performance!
I just loved how they were just having soooo much fun.
What a great band Dire Straits made music that will last for decades.
amazing reaction love, Mark is one of the best guitarist ever
I keep on listening to this particular performance as it is so masterful and getting different reactions adds to the enjoyment
I’m the same age as Mark 74 years old. I’ve seen them twice live. They still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
I am 76. This is the best live performance I have ever heard. All the band members are masters of their instruments and they are so together as they play.
@@frankbrown6716 my favourite band of all time, then ELO, Eagles, Queen 😍
i love how much space for expression they leave each other. this is a band.
like queen.
they are friends. not a made up band. some people like each other and have the idea of making music. with all ups and downs.
and i am stoked how fast you got the melody and the vibe. you feel it^^
Knofler is so cool and relaxed but what he is doing at such a high level is so impressive

Mark ( the lead guitarist ) has a new album out ( now in 2024, 45 years + from when this was preformed .
I was a 19-year old kid when I saw them on this tour (1983) and we came out of the show as worn out and sweaty as the band. Pure energy!! DS-accept no substitute. 🫡❤️🤘🏼
good old classic guitar rock the best of times to be a teenager 68 and still Rock and roll
Simply the GOAT that is who he is.
Great reaction. You are indeed a lady of great taste. You would enjoy the live version of Tunnel of Love or Money for nothing by Dire Straits. Mark's guitar playing is superb and one of the few guitar player who makes me very emotional with his playing.

Feels like I just went to the moon and back...whewwww

No es Dave Knopfler...ya no estaba.
La segunda guitarra es Hal Lindes en ésta oportunidad.
I'm pleased that you enjoyed your Dire Straits experience they are great, they have made loading of great music, every member of this group are great musicians, thank you for your reaction, 🌹
Gracias por tu reacción ☺️ . Dire Straits fué un maravilloso grupo!!

A magnificent performance, a beautiful story song. It's a ten.
Would you believe me if I told you they topped it at the same concert? Try 'Telegraph Road'.
Love the song... about a jazzy type band that ends up at a hllbilly honky tonk.
Eventually try to listen to: "Sailing to Philadelphia", which is a totally different, but also a very beautiful song. It's the story about the mapping of a border line in the USA, between the North, without Slavery, and the South, in difficult terrain, made by two Englishmen called over to do it.

Check out Stevie Ray Vaughan live at El Macambo. Texas Flood. He' my Brother. Pronounced (Von) ❤❤
Please play som African Guitar music for the world to hear . Frends from west africa and southern Africa have player some fantastic music for me from their homes .
Not really a guitar band, but one of my favourite gigs was Osibisa in a tiny venue near Wolverhampton. Sunshine Day indeed.
Your bound to have heard them before. You may not have known it was them when you heard, Money for Nothing and Walk of Life.
Private Investigations is by far their best song. So dark and moody. Dire Straits made MTV popular with song 'Money for nothing' back in the Eighties.
Just shut up and get on with it!!!!!!!!!
At least have a clue about who you're reacting too.
I'm an older guy and I remember seeing them in concert and they were really underrated they are such a great band there's not many bands that actually can play their instruments so well as they are and by the way you're a beautiful host I think I'm going to subscribe to you because you make me feel happy and smiley
Hi Nasa, great reaction to a great song, more Dire Straits please
