Protecting Foam Model Planes

- I've been protecting my larger EPO foam models using a particular type of floor polish.
The product is Pledge - revive it, floor gloss which you can buy from some importers on Amazon.
It's not cheap but goes a long way. I've done three big models and still have more than half left. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
This stuff has been off the market for a couple of years now, I bought my last bottle 3 years ago from Amazon UK.
I bought mine a couple of years ago. Just thought I'd pass on the information, shame it's come off the market!
I see this stuff has been recommended as a replacement product to use.... www.lakeland.co.uk/20286/quick-shine-floor-finish-800ml
The application music was spot on.
Awesome tip thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it. :)
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks for watching! Hope you found it useful :)
Looks great thanks for the tip
Hope it helps!
Any acrylic floor coating should accomplish the same results
I have grown to hate EPO . I've ordered a flight stabilisation box coming next week. 😊
That’s interesting product Caroline, I have year to try, but min wax and product apparently.
It goes on real nice, definitely worth a try Chris!
Thanks!
Welcome!
I used to do that on my vynel top in the 70s. It's all good till it gets wet.
😃
It's true that foam breaks down quite quickly. I am using plain ol Elmers Glue mixed with water to make a great coating. Oxidization is the killer. If you can do ANYTHING to keep oxygen off the surface, you are winning!!!!!!
I remember "Klear", from my stint in the army. I wonder if they still make that stuff!!! It was awesome polish
I believe this Revive It stuff replaced Klear as the preferred product, now it to has been discontinued :(
it turns out that Klear' is now "Pledge Multisurface Polish". 👍
Marketing!!! Just when you get used to something, they go and change it! :D
does this floor gloss (varnish) dry rigid? if so, is it prone to cracking due to flex?
i laminate my wings... harder (more fiddlier) to do than painting a 'hardener' on!!!
It's so thin that I have not seen any indication of it cracking off at all. It's really good at cutting down on general hanger rash, it won't stop dents from harder hits. Plus you end up with nice shiny planes!!!
I've been using Liquitex Varnish.
Not heard of that one, I assume being acrylic it is foam safe. :)
@@Caroline_Tyler It was the only brand I could find in sweden that seemed to be somewhat similar to MinWax and don't melt the models :)
Minwax is the "in" treatment for foamies. Is a real coating
I've used it in conjunction with lightweight fibreglass to strengthen areas on foam planes, but not on its own. Interesting.
Wow, looks like smooth plastic.
The mouldings from X-Fly, FMS and their like are really good and smooth to start with.
Spent several months trying to buy this product online - & I just found bunches of cowboys selling empty promises!
Finally secured a 1/2 pint tin of Minwax Full Gloss for £25.00! - Very good stuff, but 'liquid gold' prices or what?! : )
Yes, I was struggling to get it when I did.....It's a good job it goes on so sparingly!
Please explain someone. How is a thin coat of polish going to protect from knocks and dents? Watered down PVA would be just as effective, as in not.
It will not stop a dent, but it does strengthen and shine the surface layer. I've also found it reduces catches from fingernails and the like.
Spray type containers of Pledge are freely available. Why not use that. I will give it a go.
Please let us know if it works for you. This is not a regular polish, it's a gloss coating really.
Great tip but I refuse to $125 for 27 fl oz.
I completely agree!!!
Maybe try this which was recommended in the comments here. Looks very much like ane equivalent product. www.lakeland.co.uk/20286/quick-shine-floor-finish-800ml
