Slavery has existed for millennia. Every race has been enslaved at some point in history. We need to stop the division in our country as it is only making racism worse. Prayers for our country.
Wow, powerful movie. 👏 Bittersweet and shocking. And to think all these things took place only less than 100 years before I was born. Thank you for the upload!
Women owned slaves too. And looking at feminism, they arent that much better at leadership than men. Look at how the fashion industry worships coco chanel who was a nazi

What is with the selective cropping in this movie? Notice a few instances so far where you have removed some of the dialogue. Like where Sarah stood up to over seer and “forbid”him to whip the slaves. More dialogue removed when discussion of Selma coming back home after weeding night. Again when Sarah stood up to overseer to defend Leon’s uncle for giving a horse and saddle and money to Floyd when he left during the night. If you are going to bring the old movie back out, let it stand without cropping. It’s like you are trying to remove whenever someone pushed back for bad treatment of the slaves in this movie. I have not seen this movie in years but know it well since I had a copy of it on vhs. It’s like when Alex Haley came out with Roots and did not divulge the truth of the black men in Africa actually selling the blacks into slavery. Slaves were purchased on the shores from other black men. Alex Haley even admitted it did not fit with the story he was trying to portray. He could not expose the injustice that the dominant tribes in Africa were capturing and selling the people from other tribes. Slavery was around way longer than when here in US. It is a dark side of our history but there was a lot of people that did not believe in the practice of it, including a lot of southern whites and they knew it needed to change and even broke the laws, as in this movie, to educate and even free them. The democrats were the slave holders, no matter how much they try to pass the blame. I’m curious now to see what else you have selectively left out in the 2nd and 3rd part of this movie.
@Bonny Evans. Both parties owned slaves. You can’t say that it was the Democrats. Look it up. I’m sick and tired of people like you who say things like that. 😡 My grandmother was a Democrat and her family never owned slaves. If any black person or Hispanic person worked on my grandparents farm, they were all paid the same amount as the whites. She even baked pies for the entire group of men who worked for them. I am so sick of the lies.
They fear more racism sllegations from the dim wits on the left , the left wing democrats already chastised the original version as being too offensive .. those weak minded idiots ruine everything
"The democrats were the slave holders, no matter how much they try to pass the blame." I appreciate your love of truth in history. pls read about how the Ds became Rs and the Rs became Ds - i think it happened in the late 60's and is called Southern Strategy.
I watched Roots and later on meet Alex Haley in DC area ..enjoyed meeting him ..not to many can say I've saken the hand that has saken Dr. Martin Luther King's hand a many a time too ...
I’m just over half way through, and so far I don’t like any of gentry of folk with money( not bring colour into it because of how them awful men treat there own wives. Also it means all the actor are playing there parts very well. But you do see some try hard to fight help slaves. Even when there own race don’t agree. The sex trafficking and slave still go on today. Some folk are just evil to the core. All nation have done bad things. Just wish it stamped out. If you do traffic and sell humans, it should be the death penalty. Just my opinion
Awesome movie it shows how things were back when there were slaves, in the plantations, I have a question has anything changed from then , now in the 31st century?, also the movie or miniseries has a bunch of known actors, and some who would be famous like Paul Rudd of Ant Man 🐜 fame.
You don’t have to DO the cooking to not want the beans to burn… and the other woman had taken the spoon so she had not been stirring the beans…and no one wants to eat burned beans.
So Leon is part black look at his hair. Everyone gets their blood from their Mother's. Happy Mother's Day Divine Mother, this is your day. Have a wonderful day. xoxo
This movie gets a lot wrong, a lot is tolerated that would not have been in real life, a lot brought out in the open that would have remained whispered about. I read this in high school when it came out, it should have been called “Sex on the Plantation”, that was the attraction-we girls all thought it was racy & we loved it. It’s entertainment, not history. One of the first big mini-series on tv, I enjoyed it when it first came out & glad to see it again.

The upbeat, genteel music belies the reality of the lives of those desperate, enslaved people in the cotton fields. I hate this miniseries for this reason. The music seems to attempt to perfume a stench that was American slavery. Cotton has thorns which prick the fingers, by the way, if handled indelicately. And, it's not as though they were given garden gloves. So i'm guessin' a lot of those poor souls (including that little boy) had calluses and finger wounds. And, these are just my observations of the first 2 minutes.
Name one time or place, past and present were the lives off the wealthy arent supported by a working class treated badly? Your clothes are made with slave labor, batteries mined by slaves, devices made by slaves.
I know you are doing a mystery crochet. But if you work as usual with the written and the illustration together, you would have been able to interpret the instructions along with the picture. It would have saved you all the pauses to go fix & return. Even though you missed some of the places where you would have joined corners making parts more stable. Also easier to iron. You have a pretty piece of lace edging. I wouldn't do it as a mystery but as intended as an illustrated pattern. The old patterns are hard enough to interpret.
Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! This was written while a lobotomy was being performed on the so-called writer. Everything about all three episodes sucks....hard!!!!!
Like watching a bad play with Bad actors. Portraying just about all the southern people as barbarians. Highly effective! No I have not watched 15 to 20 minutes of it, and that's more than enough! One can tell that the Storyteller or scriptwriter whatever it's called was not at all from the south! The southern people are not all alike and they're not as barbaric as your movie portrays! Uncivilized generation so-called human. Not worth the paper it's written on nor the time to watch it. And I add for those that watch this movie and enjoy it for whatever reason. Got a low perspective of entertainment, and don't even know it! Absolutely pitiful!

Frederick Douglass said "No man can put a chain around another man's ankle without finding the other end fastened around his own neck."
You owed it to the actresses and actors to name them. Yet you have not.
I agree with Frederick Douglass!!! To procure and hold slaves makes a slave of oneself.

Brutality still lives today in this country I know I had a taste of it in my marriage and in foster homes.

Unfortunately I don’t know where my ancestors came from. Just that they picked tobacco on a farm in Virginia and cotton in South Carolina.
