10 years ago today, i was gifted with this for my 6th birthday. And now a decade later on my 16th birthday i look back at the memories this console has given me throughout that time. Thank you PlayStation 2, thank you for the memories, and thank you for the enjoyment you've given me. No console will ever compare

The 6th generation of gaming was definitely the best by far. The PS2, GameCube, Original Xbox, & Dreamcast. So many fun, innovative, creativity, & classic games were published year, after year, after year. I miss that era (2000-2006).

I remember my uncle owning a PS2 (maybe he still does), and I have very fond memories of visiting his house (I lived close to him) to play games on his PS2. It was my first game console.
i had one for 5 years and it was on almost non-stop and it never gave out. I LOVE IT!!!!

SheriffGamer I'd rather just stick with Component. PS2 to HDMI does not look any different than the Component cables. That adapter is that cable. It transfers through the Component signal and manually you have to set it to HD mode like the Component cable. But feel free to buy it and enjoy it.

I do, I found my 39001 more reliable than my slim, harder to service more reliable, with the slim, easier to service but less reliable.

Yeah. Mine's 14 and even though part of the front disc tray is missing (cause when i was 8 i got mad when it wouldn't read a blue disc) still works just fine and I play it every day.

The PS2 is truly the best console out there. It is the second long lived console after Atari 2600. I will take care of it forever and play all those great games they made for it.

Yep, and 2015 too! Though mainly on emulators, I still use my console when a game acts like a bitch on my computer. Which is 65% of my library.
PixelReviver Yeah I have the silver slim 79001 model and it has free mcboot on it I already got a pretty decent collection of ps2 games even downloaded ones. I would really like to find a good snes emulator for it though I only managed to get a nes and genesis emulator to work great on it. I even installed the shortcuts to the main menu screen. Know of any good snes emulators that work good?

I love PS2 & I am making sure that I'll be playing PS2 as long as I can.
PS2 is like a really good friend for me. It has given me lot's of fun times & helped me through bad times.

My original one still works, though I have another that doesn't.. However I have 2 original Xboxes because my first one's hard drive died... doesn't quite work like a charm...
I love this console to death, truly a gem and a important piece of tech and video game history.

Edgar Bonites If you would like to install the games onto a hard drive and making your discs lifespan longer go for the fat one, specifically the SCPH-3900X (don't buy the 3000X nor the 5000X, these have the worst laser). If you don't care about that, go for the slim model 7900X. The loading times from the internal HDD are way better than the ones from the discs or usb.

Whatever you prefer. I own a 360 and although it has a gorgeous library and most of the multiplats are better than on the PS3, I really haven't played any exclusives so far. Also the 360 is backwards compatible with a bunch of OG Xbox games, so you will be able to play the best versions of the sixth generation multiplats (such as the GTA trilogy, SSX among other games) as well as some great exlusives such as Shenmue II, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Halo 1 and 2, etc.
Has anyone else spotted the similarities between the looks of the Slim PS2 and the PS4?

@@BRIANOCONNER2003 Yeah most people say the 39000 and the 50000 are more reliable. I own the 30004 the one which is said to have the inferior laser. It reads blue discs only in the vertical position then I put it back to horizontal and they keep working. 😂 it reads all other disc's fine no matter the position.

***** it is true, the xbox is big and heavy, but man it has some awsome games. i like to have has many system i can, and i do that because if i want to play forza motrsport, amped 2, mechassault, and halo i must have an xbox and i do, to play that titles, ho and dont forguet panzer dragon orta, shenmue 2 etc. if i want to play grand turismo 3 or four, god of war, shadow of the colossus, ico and much more, i must have the playstation 2 wich i have as well!! the ps2 is my favourite console of all time because the console is two in one. i have a good library of ps one games that i love i love so much, and the ps2 play´s them all, at least mines do, suports all the accessories for the ps one, and there are a massive and overwellming amount of accessories for that system. it does everything the ps one does and better and what the ps2 allready is capable of!!! analisys??? the best console and the best library of games above all!!

Something to discover. You know the wired Xbox 360 controller uses a USB cable? Why not plug it in to the PlayStation 2 and see what happens.
shaw bertie It won't work. The usb on the ps2 is for charging only. Though, if you have a modded ps2 and have the specially written drivers you can use usb 1.0 mas storage devices. But even on a modified console you cannot connect any extra peripherals other than the coveted keyboard and mouse that came with the linux kit.

i still have mine as my only DVD player still works great never had a problem.
the only reason it sold so well was the fact it had DVD player.
going from VHS to DVD was INSANE! alot of people got it to play DVD's. fun fact! the gamecube was more powerful than the ps2, but since it did not have a DVD player it fails in comparison.
ps2=more a DVD player then a gameconsole.

The PS2 is an amazing console however though i do think it is slightly overrated with the lack of online features that the Xbox original had and the constant fucking disc read errors

While PS2 may not be the most powerful or online ready it's the one that did more things right but not necessarily better.

I've had my ps2 Slim for 9 years and still runs like a champ.
No PS2 fat is better because it doesn't scratch games like the slim,disk tray,fan,power built in and an expansion bay. The version of the fat models i recommend you'd get is the SCPH-50001 (3rd revision). It has a quieter fan,reads disks faster and better and more reliable than the slim.

Uncharted 1 and 2 definitely. 3 wasn't as good IMO but overall a good trilogy.
KhAnime 3 was more memorable than 1, but 3 left some plot points open. 1 introduced us to these characters with dazzling effects. 2 just smashes the competition and remains one of the greatest games of all time.

I remember my first PS 2 Slim, good times, good times... i had it for something like 2-4 years, but then the disk trey was kinda broken, it couldn't read my games, beacuse everytime i was angry i would just smack the disk trey :P
And i had great games for it, including GTA SA, NFS Most Wanted, NFS Underground 2, and Hitman: Blood Money! and i had more games that i don't really remember their names...

One of the best consoles ever. So many classic games which are still very playable today - Ratchet and Clank 1-3, Jak 1-3, Killzone, Shadow of the Colossus, God of war, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Ace Combat 4 and 5, Killer 7, GTA San Andreas, Beyond good and evil, Black, God Hand, Maximo etc etc etc etc etc......the list goes on and on.
So easy and affordable to collect for too if you're a retro geek like me.
My 12 year old PS2 is still running strong and it hasn't skipped a beat!

MoH: Frontline, GTA: Vice City, Silent Hill 2, Ratchet and Clank, Conflict: Vietnam and CoD: Finest hour. Perfect examples of incredible games this system was graced with.
after 13 years and 100s of thousands of hours my PS2 still works as good as the day i bought it.
I got all giggidy when he took out the Timesplitters case
After years of gaming on PS2, I learned that knowing which PS2 model is more prone to failing is a freaking science. My old original fat PS2 stopped reading disks just after a few years (played burned disks on it, so my fault), and my newer 90001 slim seems to have weird RAM issues.
Waiting for the venerable 50001 in the mail, to see if it's as mighty as the legends say.
I grew up with this. And even though 13 year olds can't get nostalgic, I think this is as close to it as one can get. And I'm so glad that it was backward compatible with PlayStation games. I still remember playing FFVII on this :')
I remember when playing video games wasn't about leveling up and "pwning noobs." Online experience on pretty much every new game sort of ruins the original gaming experience. Now games like CoD and Halo basically focus mainly on multiplayer.
My PS2 has lasted me 13 yrs and still works like a charm
10 years later, I still have my ps2.
