    Dude, if you think that this solved the problem of YLOD, then you are deeply mistaken.
    Disassemble, clean from dust and change the thermal paste - this is not enough.
    Who will scalp RSX and PSX?
    There, under the covers, is also thermal paste.
    So expect the PS3 to die again soon.
    Capacitors from NEC have nothing to do with it at all, why did you touch them? YLOD is a problem caused by overheating and poor soldering of the BGA chip.
    I’m generally scared to talk about soldering, it’s horror.

      The CECHC04 has got hybrid PS2 emulation, which means that the Graphics Synthesizer is on the motherboard, but the Emotion Engine is emulated by CELL. This means that this model has got additional routine for emulating PS2 Games: ps2_gxemu

    No disrespect intended but this is normally not what is wrong with these units. It will temporarily "fix" them because the heat applied to remove and replace the NEC Tokin chips will temporarily reflow the BGA under the real problem, the RSX chip. Reselling these after doing this type of repair is a bit unethical. Most of these will fail in days. Some will last weeks. A few will last months. As someone else on here already stated please watch RIP Felix YLOD video here on TH-cam. He does an amazing in depth analysis and is the person responsible for enlightening myself.
    As a side note, part of the reason I commented on an old video is I am getting these in my shop on a fairly regular basis in just the last 3 months. My customers had purchased "refurbed" and they worked for a short time before reverting to the blinking red light. Can they be saved by replacing the RSX chip, maybe. But the amount now spent on the console is rather prohibitive. So just don't jump in and start replacing NEC Tokin chips. They were blamed for something they normally weren't causing.

      Manufacturing deficiencies in the 95nm process GPUs cause power draw issues after a number of heat/cool cycles. The core issue can be temporarily fixed by the cap replacement but will not last. The fixing looks doable until he started scraping the chips off and then soldering the smaller yellow chip. Was there a part where he diagnose the issues before doing it and then tested again prior to putting everything back together? I seen videos where they use multi-meters to test.

      Usually it’s not the capacitors, it’s more or likely the RSX (the GPU). They were known for their insane power consumption and heat output. The 90 nm variants (the ones found in the launch models) had the most issues. When they started decreasing the size, this decreased power consumption and made them a lot cooler temperature wise. This is why the later Phats, Slims, and Super Slims are the more desirable models, even though they lose PS2 backwards compatibility

    Nice video but the nec tokens are not the problem. Its gpu failure. To anyone with a ylod ps3, don't replace the tokens unless you know for certan they're the issue. The only real way to make these guys reliable is a 40nm Frankenstein

  • @alexsitnikov7020
    @alexsitnikov7020 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Самое интересное, что YOLD это не 100% замена токенов, по хорошему сначала надо снять ошибки из SYSCON и они подскажут с 95% вероятностью в чем проблема желтого огня. Простой владелец щас посмотрит - побежит токены менять на танталовые конденсаторы, а там проблема в отвале графического чипа. Короче в описании хотя бы добавили бы про этот момент, чтобы не обнадеживать других.

    It was no ylod, but a rlod and ripping off the nec tokin capacitors was a detrimental error. You dont get replacements for them, there are none and you normally read out errors via the syscon. You inadvertently totalled that backwardscompatible console for the future, because the alternative capacitors are the new problem over short or long time. Consolemurderer!

    Fun Fact: The NEC/TOKINs aren't the culprit of the issue, and it gets fixed by the heat applied near the chipset

    • @largevapor
      @largevapor ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun fact: your info is incorrect, YLOD is a general hardware failure and he should have diagnosed it properly by soldering wires on the syscon RXD and TXD pins and using a UART, if the error code produced by said chip ends with "1002", it indeed is the power going to the RSX not being correct which means the NEC Tokin tantalum caps are the culprit, if the error produced is anything else, like a 3034 which indicates a dead RSX chip, then yes, it isn't the culprit. If the issue is a 3034 then your only solution basically is to get a new chip.

    The video description is translated to portuguese haha. I realized that you are no from Brazil.
    Let me give my 2 cents:
    1 - Remove the processor/gpu protection before applying thermal paste (you can do this using a soda can (cut it in 1inch stripes and do the process carefully).
    2 - An awesome game to test if the tantalus is working: Burnout Paradise. I have one of my 10 YLOD PS3 (yeah, I know, its a lot and I bought it in 2020, so, I got no much time to fix these guys) and I can play other games normally, but It shutdowns with Burnout. In this moment it is oppened in a basement waiting for me to fix this issue, I guess I will do like you did...

  • @AlDim000
    @AlDim000 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Lol, those NEC/Tokin caps on the PS3s almost never go bad, so replacing them with zero actual diagnostics to "fix" YLOD is a total fad if you follow the latest developments in the PS3 repair community. This "repair" will not last.
    In the vast majority of cases YLOD is caused by a dead GPU and the only real way to fix it is by replacing the GPU (now there are ways to use the newer versions, but it is far from trivial).
