It's part of the game in RC modeling. I accept the risk when I commit a model to the air. That's also where the fun comes from.
There is no value for me in having a hanger queen. Every plane that flies has a date with destiny...

Once a R/C aircraft ( Glow/Nitro KIT) becomes irreparable or "totaled" in a crash you should give the parts that can't be salvaged the same respect as the American Flag. They should never be "thrown away" and you always burn them. That's one main advantage of building planes from a kit and using gas engines vs ARF and electric.

what a beautiful plane too. it's a shame that this side of the hobby is dying. It's nice to see these still flying. All instant gratification foamys. No love and passion like what went into this beauty. At least the kit is still available.

What a beautiful plane! So sorry for its demise. My Senior has been with me for about 27 years and it was well used when it came to me. It got a full overhaul about 6 years ago and is still going strong.

That's cool. I'm doing a comlete overhaul of a 20+ year old Senior from my teenage years. Getting all new electronics, new engine, added ailerons, bolt-on-wing, new gas tank, adding wing struts, and all new covering. Lot of work, can't wait to get it back in the air. And yes, the plane from this video was an absolute beauty!

My first ever plane was the smaller Kadet. Knew nothing about flying nor did anyone I knew. The first flight was the most thrilling 1 minute of my life. But, it was built like a brick shithouse and gave me hours and hours of flying even with dozens of repairs. I lost mine in the sun one evening and came down at the end of the runway too soon, flying it through trees and ripping the wings off. I never did find them. Shame to see yours go but boy does seeing a good balsa kit with a nitro engine make me happy. Thanks for the memories.

Ah man, she's gone. Another old classic lost forever. Oh well, they wouldn't have it any other way, would they? I am getting back in the hobby this fall. I will be trying a foam and electric trainer, but over the Winter will be building an honest to goodness balsa kit, and a Sig Kadet Senior is top of the list in possibilities, especially now that I have seen this with these exact mods. I left the hobby over 20 years ago and really wasn't a good pilot then. I built a Dura Plane (flying plastic rain gutter with foam wing), Me and my mentor built a generic but well built trainer from scratch, a Sig Four Star .40, and a Great Planes Slo Poke. The Sig was my favorite build. Can't wait to build another Sig Kit. I was in my early 20s then. Almost 50 now. So much has changed.

That is the nicest Kadet Senior I've ever seen. I noticed in your video you liked doing loops and rolls a little too close to the ground. So unfortunately I'm not surprised that you lost it. It sucks but as in scale aviation "I am also a pilot" your best friend is altitude. Nothing replaces the safety of distance from the ground. Like I said it sucks but I was not at all surprised. Hopefully you'll build another one just like it, I know I am. I downloaded your video and am going to print out snap shots of your Kadet and duplicate it as close as possible structurally. Beautiful bird with a sad ending.

Next to a stick, this is about as good as it gets. If you go clear back to the earliest days of rc, the models resembled those two aircraft. I know everyone is flying just about anything these days, but a lot of the guys say that nothing flies like these. There is something about running gas in one of these older designs.

    • @chilly7261

Yup! Nothing like a stick and rudder plane to keep in practice. With soooo... many smart shit nowadays its a wounder us old guys even got of the ground without AFS, a gyro or some other way to forfit control to a machine, where the human is put on an easy job while the AI takes care of all the nuenses of control. In the end, the pilot becomes complacent and loses his instintive control over his machine. Loss of control. Pilot error because he forgot some instintive basics. What the AI is doing for him, is in essence making the pilot worse in light aircraft. control inputs which give human control over to micro chips. Lesson here to all pilots of every type. Get some simple stick and rudder time with a comfortable aircraft that can keep you amused, but also on your toes. Witchata spam can approved. LOL

Sorry but couldn't help but laugh when you talk about the old servos and electronics used and how they worked just fine.....as you dig through what is left of your crashed out model. Maybe new servos and new electronics would have been a better idea, but then again maybe it wouldn't have made a difference.
