Looks like a bearing issue to me. That cover is the bevel gear cover. When it took flight it blew out oil then leaked some on the ground, so it had more oil than what is captured in the jug. Those bearings tend to give up, it's somewhat common. I don't think the engine is blown at all. Could be all you need is a new bevel gear bearing - and cover. While you're at all this check the differential oil also. There is a whine in the bike on deceleration, noted from the ride. No noise on acceleration. That tells me it was that bearing, 100%.
@@mcycleshawn yes. lol @not wearing your gear. I had to do it bro. The whine on deceleration is most likely that bevel gear bearing being bad. That is a slightly educated guess, can't be certain. Anytime you hear that whine you can bet on it being a bearing - or some horribly worn gears. Most likely a bearing though. That would explain the intense heat also. Bearings get stupid hot when they begin to malfunction. That bike has a lot of miles on it for it to be having these problems. The clutch plates may have an issue from sitting. That happens. Those bearings normally start having issues around 50K miles - give or take.
@@ronniec8038 well! I guess we are going to learn how to change a bevel gear! Lol if I didn’t destroy this bike we need to make it right! It was a very odd place for a engine to blow out from
@@mcycleshawn yup. That bearing being messed up can also cause clutch issues. The issue may only be the bearing, not the gear. Kinda depends on how long it was ridden like that. The longer it went, more wear on the gears/teeth. I'd bet the gear is fine. I'm curious regarding the pressure that was built up in the crankcase? Seals and gaskets may have been tested while under that pressure. ?
@@ronniec8038 this is all new to me, but it seems that bearing causes shifting problems, the wine under deacceleration and metal shavings in the bottom of the engine. There we go lol.
Actually, was there an actual cover there? Because from the looks of it, it almost appears to be where the oil filter screws into. That could also be why there was no oil left in the engine if it blew out the side. Something to look into at least. Edit: the previous comment was before I finished watching the video and see that you removed the oil filter so it couldn't have been that. Interesting ... I would pull up a parts fiche diagram online to see what part is supposed to go there.
I finally found it. Bevel gear cover. Must have built up so much heat and pressure in the bottom of the engine and it found a way out! I’m not sure if it’s just oil or a mix. 🤞🏻crossing my fingers it’s just a fluke and we need to replace the clutch pack!🤷🏻♂️
Little? Lol if it’s metal I’m actually happy!! Not having coolant in there is a good sign the engine is fine and it’s only the bevel gear bearing that blew out

So you are saying I have ANOTHER problem?! Other than wearing my gear……..Awe man, though I could pop in a few clutch pack and go!

@@mcycleshawn Nice job - glad you were able to find it! Fingers crossed on the clutch pack!
Lol! Oh, I didn’t actually find it…..I figured out what it was and “found” it on the parts diagram
It must have an oil light?
It is possible to change the bearing with out pulling the engine
It is but I’m told you need to remove mounting bolts and Jack up the engine in the frame
Also.. does it turn over?
Yeah! Oil light didn’t come on during ride. I just checked compression in both cylinders and it turns over just fine🤞🏻
Oil light didn't come on because you had no power to speedometer? Oil pressure light on that?
@@randyalt370 I’m learning this bike as I go. It does have a red oil light. Speedometer gauge and oil light does set up when you turn on the key.
That's not coolant in the oil... it's metal. Sorry man. The Vulcans are sweet little bikes.
