Tinos is really a fascinating island. Thank you for sharing!
Stunning beautiful Greece 🇬🇷
Beautiful Greece! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Those flat roof houses, white and blue, simple architecture, looks nice.
This is all I could find on the Acropolis;
The giant towering rock that you can't help but notice is called Exombourgo and was the acropolis of Tinos in ancient times. The rock is 640 meters high and was so heavily fortified by the Venetians that they were able to repel Turkish raids long after the rest of the islands and most of the mainland had fallen. ~Cara 😊
At least somebody is taking me to Greece ;)) thanks Gabriel!
Have always believed in a former life Gabriel was a Greek who lived in the Era when Greece was the Capital of the World > perhaps he was a Township Mayor...& Moonlighted as a wknd Tour Guide 😜
Greece always looks good on You Brother 👍
Acropolis means the "end of the city" in greek. Usually was the highest point within a populated area and there was some sort of temple, as was considered as sacred spot. Because they were isolated and forgotten for many centuries, not a lot left standing there to see.
Looks like the temple was by the sea in this case, I showed it at the end. That was right near the port before I caught the ferry.

The Sanctuary of Poseidon in Tinos Greece, Cyclades: One of the most important sanctuaries of Poseidon in the ancient times was located in Tinos, in a walking distance from the beach of Kionia. In fact, Tinos was the only island of the Cyclades that has dedicated an entire temple to Poseidon, the god of the sea. Along with him, his wife, the sea nymph Amphitrite, was also being worshiped.
The exact date of this temple's construction is unknown, but archaeologists believe that it dates from the 4th century A.D, maybe even a bit earlier, therefore it belongs to the Hellenistic period. Due to this temple, Tinos became an important religious center and many people would first come here to clean and purify themselves and then they would go to the sacred island of Delos. In January and February, religious ceremonies known as Poseidonia were celebrated to honor the god.
In the 3rd century, the temple was reconstructed and became an inviolable asylum for people who were persecuted. Its architecture was in Doric order, without many decorative elaborations. It was made of local marble and had some representations of the god's symbols, such as dolphins and the trident. In the 4th century A.D, when Christianity was established as a religion, the temple was destroyed.
This sanctuary of Poseidon was first excavated in 1902 and 1905 by the Belgian archaeologists H. Demoulin and P. Graindor respectively. Apart from the main temple, this archaeological site includes baths, an altar, a monumental stoa, and a fountain.
Watching your adventure in Greece enjoying your island trips . Sitting with my mother at home she's 86 years old.👍
Gabriel, it really Greek is Ancient! Thank you so much for information!
Great videos of Greece, lovely to see after we just had 10 amazing days in Crete at the start of April. Can't wait to see where else you go to in the Greek islands. Ps we went to Delos a few years ago from Mykonos. Considering how much you love your greek history and ruins, you really should try and go, amazing place. You will be blown away, keep up great work. 👍😎♥️
(At 06:12) Gabriel I am an architect and having watched many videos of yours I can reassure you that you've got an architect's/engineer's eye! You never got it wrong so far
Cool, good to hear.
The islands in Greece are amazing. It's almost a forgotten area. The best part is very little tourists..
Imagine going back in time 4000 years and visiting these places.
We will soon be going back 4000 years . 😊
Gabriel, prehistoric in Greece means just that: late stone age- bronze age. Tinos is part of the Cycladic group of islands, and share in the late bronze age Cycladic civilization.
Why 1984? The date "1984" seen on some dovecotes on the island of Tinos in Greece is actually a reference to the year that a law was passed prohibiting the construction of new dovecotes. This law was enacted to protect the architectural heritage of the island and preserve its traditional dovecotes. The number "1984" serves as a reminder of this regulation and the importance of preserving these unique structures.
i agree here. you should buy a greek house on one of your favorite islands. start a new
angle : be an historian on greek history, arrange tours in the neighbourhood. i really love your greek videos😊
And be a barber on the side😊
I think you should definitely go to Delos. Well worth it. You’re so close. Maybe try Mykonos again when it’s still early in the season before it gets really crowded and overpriced.
15:56 correct as Myceneans were Greeks and were speaking Greek.
Looks like a fig tree growing at the dove coat.❤
India has got some of the most beautiful islands in Lakshadweep even prettier than Maldives. but no foreigner goes there. I request Gabriel Traveller to go there and show the world.
Don't let them know
So cute ❤
You should apply for permanent citizenship in Greece I think
Loving this series already. Greece always delivers.
Loving it by episode 11
Just back from Thailand bro and I’ll be binge watching every episode now !! ❤
1984 refers to the year the buildings were restored.
That makes sense.
Gabriel has been to many different countries and he likes the beach and sea of the Greek islands he can help it they are amazing people should follow his trips and a see for themselves.Great job Gabriel you are great adventurer!
❤ great presentation great cinematography❤ saludos
Hi Gabriel, wow your 50th Greek Island, and by our estimates probably the 48th you’ve said is one of your favourites!! 🤣🤣…and can’t fault you at all, we love Greece too!
Sailing vessel Delos on TH-cam. Its named after the Greek island!
The plaque says "Restored by the club Friends of Green 1984" Green usually means greenery. Doesn't look restored to me BTW
It was 40 years ago
Usual greatness, thanks! The views make me think it is actually plausible to hop from island to island on some kind of live-aboard motor "yacht" (not really a yacht), even for someone concerned about the winds kicking up unexpectedly and causing high seas. I think most of these islands are only one or two hours apart (much longer if by sailboat).
The dove cot you showed was renovated in 1984 by an enviromental club named "The friends of the Green".
Thanks.

OK. Tinos Gabriel you love it, in comparison to the greener Island which I loved for the greenery. You got plenty in with the time you spent here! in Tinos.
Safe travels. Nice filming/commentary.

Cool man, thanks. ✌️
Lovin it Gabe😊
Great end to your stay on Tinos. So many ruins and the dovecotes were interesting. Definitely a beautiful and fascinating island to visit. Great filming and commentary. ❤❤
I feel like I could spend a whole trip just on Tinos. Enjoying this content!

Enjoying this
16:58 Nice view from the top of the hill.
Mr traveler is in his happy place
Those Greek islands are so nice and peaceful, I'd love to live there😀
The date 1984 is the restoration date Gabriel 👍💯
"Restored by the Friends of Green Association, 1984"
Friends of Green, or Friends of Greece?
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Green. :-)
Okay. 👍
Nice ! 😀❤😄
man tinos really amazed me. Its absolutely crazy how Mykonos managed to become more poplular than this island.
Groundhog Day in Greece 🙂
Could you visit Kavala Beach?.It`s really a fascinating beach.
What country are you going to next
India 😂😂😂😂
Didn't the people at Cappadocia also keep pigeons for meat and guano? Greeks did used to live there a long time ago.
Exactly, I mentioned that in this video: th-cam.com/video/TmnXc3NA__s/w-d-xo.html
Gabriel - Nice shirt. 😍
acropolis means the highest fortified city
😍
19:03 wowwwwww so beautiful
5000 years ago , Greeks were sailing in Aegean see and Mediterranean.
@@user-mf5ue6rc5n Cycladic civilisation is one of the oldest in the world, after the Sumerians, Hindu and Egyptians.
@@user-mf5ue6rc5n We are talking about civilization, not somewhere a village. The oldest city in our area is in Göbekli Tepe 12.000 years old .It’s in southern Türkiye.
😊
Hi Gabriel, it should be warmer once you get to the next island. At some point in history, Tinos must have been an important Island to have an Acropolis which is a fortified citadel. When they are referring to ancient history it means pre-Columbian.
I think ancient history usually means before the fall of the Roman Empire, but the acropolis was labeled as pre-historic, so that must mean a lot older.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos that mean 3000 to 5000 years old..

I was first but I didn't leave a comment.
You look good eating 😊
5th!
why this island is not green like other islands ? !!!! !!!!!
Islands in Cyclades are not that green tbh, especially during late spring and summer
The Cyclades group of islands are ''famous'' for being dry and barren. Naxos, Paros, and Andros are somewhat exceptions...
I will be honest and say 5th...what say Gabe ...

Fourth.

Luckily Gabriel has no idea what a disgusting meal is made of spinach in Hungary. And we are continuously terrorizing the new generations in the kindergartens for many generations now.
Still not really a fan of the series so far. Evia was great but these Tinos videos get rather tedious. Yup, another pile of "historic" rocks, yup another pigeon thing, another medioce beach. I actuallly planning a 10 day holiday in june and I really couldnt think of a single reason why I would want to spend them here. Im not being disingenous or something, it just seems really boring. And Gabe is really doing his best to make the most out of it, not slacking at all but there is apparantly only so much to work with. Would love to see some of the old town of Rhodos or maybe a Crete roadtrip or something. I remember being in Heraklion on Crete and they have some lovely Venetian architecture there and the fortifications around Rhodos city are magnificent.
If you are looking for your next vacation destination then you are in the wrong channel. That's not what Gabriel is doing.
@@vlassis.tzomos Visiting local cultural and historical sights and enjoying the landscapes is what I like to do and that seems exactly what Gabriel is doing most of the time, so yeah, I love this channel. I just think Tinos isnt a particularly interesting place. Sorry! And because of his recent videos im actually considering the Czech Republic, so I think ill stick around if thats ok with you.
@@ageoflove1980 I accept and respect that you don't like Tinos, ok, I am not a big fan either. But, you understand that if we all start complaining every time we don't like a place Gabriel visits, then there's no point to it all. There are people who want to see Gabriel in Tinos and we have to respect that. Also, Gabriel finds Tinos a fascinating place, we have to respect that too. That's all I'm saying!
@@vlassis.tzomos I'm sure that you agree that all types of feedback must be given in order to have a meaningful discussion. And if something is perhaps less interesting to somebody, calling that "complaining" isnt really helpful. This should be a place where we can share our opinions, and of course these can't always be only positive. I'm sure that you can respect that. A comment section where we only post how "amazing" everything is sounds rather boring and pointless. Thats why my suggestions were to explore more of Crete and Rhodos, which are great islands with a lot more to see and do. And I know that a man like Gabriel as the veteran traveler he is, can decide for himself what he likes and doesn't so no worries.
He missed a lot of things because of the short stay...But again he gave Tinos the Gabriel Treatment 😂. It is an Island for 10 days but maybe you will find it difficult for main stream vacations. Last 5 years it is getting transformed to the hipster islands of Cyclades during the summers with the usual wind & sandblast of cyclades offcourse 😂. Do your research you never know you maybe like it... Especially if you like Greek festivals with music from the islands🎻.
