Regarding Protake, they have a deal: $13.99 for the first year and then $19.99 afterwards. It seems like the one I’m leaning towards. About ~$1.65 a month compared to $3 a WEEK? Absolutely worth it.
I'm an advanced amateur, making nothing from my work. Given the number of great apps with reasonably close functionality (in some cases better) and the pricing of those apps, the market will seem to bear about $20-24/yr on subscription, at best. Further, I fully expect each of these competing apps to jump quickly to fill functionality gaps and grab a huge chunk of FilmicPro's market share, especially given the already horrific marketing errors made and breach of trust. I believe FilmicPro is going to be hurt, regardless of their pricing decision at this point.
Why can’t apple just update their native camera app! I use the native app more than I use filmic pro cause it’s so convenient but I HATE you don’t have manual control. I guess that’s by design to make it simple for everyone. But just make another “pro” option in the setting menu to turn on an off for those who want more control.
@@jayoils123 yeah I think so too. I feel Like since apple is going hard on their camera and video specs more recently to market towards creators it just makes sense for a total overhaul of the native app within the next few generations. I have the 13 pro max now. So I’m skipping the 14 but I hope by 15 or 16 we’ll see a better app implemented.
although it may be an afterthought for many, an alternative to filmic pro with excellent app privacy is a big plus. any app that tracks users is a dealbreaker. from your list, mavis and movie pro recorder have the best privacy rating according to the app store. i remember when mavis beacon was a typing practice software.
If you already paid for & use it + any of the in-app purchases, we still get access to use it at no subscription charge. We just won’t have access to any new features, which kind of sucks but at least we’re grandfathered in for past purchases.
@@BBAACKE You know why I have paid this app several times?! It's because they have changed the name of it a few times so you had to buy it again and again. Then they said F-it and just raised the price. I promise you that they make a new app called "Filmic Ultra" or something like that and that will have the sub and all the new features.
@@BBAACKE question, A popup came on my phone when I just tried to use it basically saying I have to accept the new subscription agreement or stop using the app? Did you accept the popup to keep using the app?
@@BBAACKE Thanks. It sure doesn't read that way though. Other people saying the same thing. Their drunk legal department is causing a lot of confusion and they are admitting their mistakes in the prompt were wrong.
Thank God MoviePro has a remote, that's a huge plus when filming yourself. The rest, film emulations and everything, I can overcome having paid them for naught, but a lack of Remote App would be a turn off for Filmic remplacements.
I used Mavis Pro Camera because it was free and I could only shoot 1080p at 25fps. That was really all I needed and I got decent shots. If you wanted all the other full features to select from, you have to buy them or pay the full price for all the features. I thought I’d do that later since I wasn’t doing much with the app and I was already planning to buy filmic pro. I bought filmic pro and used it for quite a bit and it was decent. But I’m already used to managing Mavis Pro Camera. Now Mavis has made the app a single purchase app on the App Store and those that had it when it was free get all the full features and don’t need to pay for anything. That update blew my mind because I had already bought filmic pro and kind of started to regret it. But then I thought “meh, I’ll just rotate between the two apps”. But now Mavis Pro Camera is an even better experience for me. At this point, it feels like I’m doing an ad for Mavis. 😂😂😂. Everyone should check it out. I think it is a better alternative to Filmic Pro. The app is $5.99 on the App Store I think. Although it’s only avail for iOS.
Yeah, Mavis is great. I am still confused about their pricing though, maybe it depends on where you live. They still show in-app purchases, but I couldn’t find the gimbal functions, although I have purchased everything in the past. I need to do some research on that. But I do think it’s a really solid app.
Another completely disillusioned user of Filmic pro here. I have been using the Legacy version as I flatly refuse to pay more for it than my original purchase. I do not use any of the features really as my main camera is a Lumix g7 filming watch movements with an F2.8 100mm lens. I use an iphone 12pro for my B roll and bought the filmic remote app for ease of use. Now the remote app seems to be playing up for me and support is next to useless. I have had many occasion where the footage would reduce in volume or mute without me pressing anything other then the record button. As there is no scale on the layout you have no idea it has done this. The volume scale is a tiny white line at the bottom of the screen in portrait mode. After years of using the same setup it does this to me and I am basically told it must be me doing it..... Now looking for alternatives and found your video and it would seem option one is for me as I just want the remote feature really. Thanks for making this comparison as it was very helpful.
I feel the same. "One time purchase" no longer means what we think it means. Although a program in a different category, the art program Clip Studio Paint is also moving to subscription. Many users are upset at the change. The feeling of security, ownership, and community that comes with "one time purchase", no longer has...purchase. I don't want to change the conversation. I just thought of Clip Studio Paint as a similar example.
The V6 app is not going away, at least no time soon. They’ve committed to keeping it updated with iOS for the foreseeable future. But I hear what you’re saying. I suggested to them that the new subscription model should actually be a new app, not just a new version.
Excellent video. Heads up/Warming… BeastCam is currently broken on the 14 ProMax (Pro too?). ProRes is no longer available and 10. Bit the screen goes crazy. They are aware of the problems but have not indicated a fix is coming soon.
I'm not even an iPhone user but appreciate the content on this channel. I bought filmic pro a couple of years ago but if they force me to get into the subscription model, then I'll delete the app. I'm looking at Mcpro24fps.
Hey, thanks for this video. I'm sure there are many people out there, with the news of FilmicPro going to a subscription based system, who aren't too happy with that model and want to find other means to shoot their videos.
I'm currently exploring a class action lawsuit against Filmic Pro for the bait and switch they pulled with Filmic v7 against perpetual license holders while keeping the name of the original app and even keeping all the reviews associated with it in the iOS app store which should be illegal. I'm also going to petition for Apple to make them start over with zero reviews since all the reviews are now invalid for the app since it's not the same app people paid for when they wrote the reviews. Also, the Filmic Legacy app, icon and name isn't what I paid for and my receipt from Apple still links to Filmic Pro, not Filmic Legacy since it still has all the reviews from the previous versions. If they are going to take functionality away from existing users they need to create a new app in the marketplace with a new name and leave the existing app up for owners to continue to download and use from the original install location in the store. If you're interested in joining let me know by the same name on Twitter.
I want to thank you for for taking so much time reviewing these other app's. I started using Filmic Pro long ago because of recommendations from people like you.. I figured if pros are using it it must be a good product. It has served me well but I will not continue if it is more that 20 dollars a year. I like you, I already own beast cam and moment cam I am playing with protake and will look at the others you mentioned. I mainly make training videos for schools and when I am asked about software I was always comfortable recommending Filmic Pro but now I can't recommend a subscription based application.
Nice overview. I went ahead and bought the MoviePro bundle because I feel like Filmic is going to end up being way too expensive. I briefly played with the app and I agree it's inspired by FP. The remote seems to work well, but I only played with it for a minute or so. Stability is key with that and I know FP has had issues with that over the years. It does allow you to shoot two cameras at the same time at the highest resolution. I think DoubleTake only allows 1080p, or it did when it first came out. Plus you can control it remotely (dual camera recording), as long as the remote device has at least an A12 chip. If not, then the remote locks up. I only have 1 that can shoot dual, the 11 Pro. It's not that big of a deal, but I could see using the wide and tele lenses at the same time for my talking head or some other combination for interviews. I think the others have some great qualities. BeastCam for $1.99 might be worth it just to do it. Most of them would suit my basic needs, though I also want to have a separate library. I'd agree that $20-30 per year for FP is reasonable, and I'd stay with FP for that. But $100+? No way.
Good to hear on MoviePro. I haven’t used it a lot, but it seems to work pretty well. Although stability is always a concern with any of these apps really. But filmic has been pretty stable for me recently anyway. I inquired recently if Filmic has made a decision on their pricing and they still haven’t. That’s going to be the key, I hope they make the right choice. :)
The real problem here, is that there is no guarantee that someone (or even the same company that bought out FilmicPro) won't buy the alternate app(s) and start charging a subscription as well. As long that is the case, I'd say your real choice is between the native Camera app (at least until it occurs to Apple to start charging for features on a monthly basis) and whichever app does what you need regardless of price.
thats why i was leaning to go for the one bought by atomos, I'm from a 3rd world country and paid filmic pro right before they went subscription model and I can use it on my new phone.
I wouldn't rathered they raise the price substantially and then charge for future updates than a subscription model I know workers have to be paid and funded to keep updating software so that's why I'm fine with higher costs and paying for updates. Only subscription soft use is Adobe and that's because my job provides it
Like you I have been using FiLMic Pro sense its inception. For the last year or so e have moved more to BeastCam and really haven’t looked back. I need to add that all our post editing is done with LumaFusion on iPad Pros. Switching from standard cams to mobile has been a game changer for us and more than tripled our business. It kinda makes me wonder what FiLMic is thinking?
That’s great to hear. The company who acquired FiLMiC Pro is the one doing this new pricing model, so I’m not sure how it will shake out in the end. I understand the need for consistent revenue, but got to be careful not to alienate your customer base.
I don’t have enough saved to buy an iPad Pro. Can I still edit video using the LumaFusion app on my iPhone 14 Pro? I’ll eventually save money for my iPad pro, but at the same time, I’d like to buy a professional camera first and a MacBook Pro first!
as a doco maker all i really want my video app to do is lock the white balance when i start recording (but detect via AWB, but not continually shift whilst filming). afaik Filmic Pro is the ONLY app that has this option.
If I understand correctly, I think most of these apps will actually do that in some form or fashion… Meaning AWB, then lock. But I know what you mean and filmic is really good about that, especially using the different modes.
great video lots to think about.... what would be the best one with a remote?, i have to have a remote because my iPhone is so far away from me so controlling the app from my ipad is a must....
MoviePro also has "Clean HDMI Out" for those who would like to use their iPhone as a studio camera. I don't think any of the others have that. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
@@iphoneographers Interesting. I guess you have be a subscriber to even see that that is an option. I couldn't see it poking around on the free version, and I didn't see it in the description of the app either.
Glad I found this. I was about to purchase FilmicPro but now there’s no price. I installed the app and before I could even open it and try it out I was hit with a prompt to agree with their terms of service. As soon as I read that they sell their user’s data, I stopped reading and immediately uninstalled the app. One of FilmicPro’s top features for me is automatic de-squeezing of anamorphic footage. Unfortunately, de-squeezing was not mentioned in your review of these FP alternative apps.
That was one on my list for this but I decided not to include it because it’s new to me, but it does look good and I will be adding that in a future video.
@@iphoneographers If the developer makes a couple more tweaks I think he would have a real winner! I don't know why more people haven't checked it out. It needs more reviews on TH-cam and the App Store. I think you will find it impressive with the work he has done. I have "no skin in the game," so it is just my opinion from using it. Also, Beastgrip and P3 have been my go to. Much fewer problems than with FilmicPro and easier to use with all the bells and whistles. Thanks!
I still haven't decided what to use instead, and that works with Zhiyun Smooth 5, with my iPhone. Tried a few but could not decide. What is your best choice?
Manufactures limit access to third-party developers. For example Samsung locks out access to their excellent 3x and 10x telephotos to developers and I use those lenses all the time on my Samsung Galaxy phone. Therefore I use Samsung's native Pro Video OEM app which is very good.
I had been using Filmic Pro since around 2016, despite it being consistently buggy and counterintuitive, and constantly losing audio trying to get it to work with the Shure MV88 stereo mic. But it allowed touchscreen control of focus independent of exposure -- which Apple's iOS Camera app did not. Absolutely crucial for controlling blowouts in live performance music video. I finally abandoned it in 2021 when I got an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Upon opening Filmic Pro, it would bizarrely flip to portrait mode or upside down, I don't remember exactly. Filmic Pro tech support had been very helpful over 5 years, and yeah there was a workaround -- clunky but livable. But this was a last-straw moment -- I just gave up, and have been living with iOS Camera. Without a major user interface revision and stronger software engineering standards, moving to a WEEKLY subscription model seems analogous to dispersing its installed base with water jets. I'd much prefer paying more up front -- say $50 instead of the $20 or so it was, and pay for upgrades -- rather than the subscription model feeling of being constantly dinged, and time-wasting overhead keeping track required. Beastcam sounds promising. I'd used MAVIS on and off, seemed like it wasn't being updated; apparently it is as of this 15Sep2022 video.
I made all my TH-cam vids with filmic Pro so far but I was thinking about dropping filmic Pro and using my s21 Pro video native app for a while. The main reason is that the in phone app has access to 8k. Subscription by filmic pro just made my decision so much easier.
I’m keeping both apps and I’m gonna do the tedious thing of filming my shots on Filmic Pro 7, and going into Files app just to transfer my footage from v7 to Legacy.
That price for Filmic is crazy... I would invest that money in a professional camera instead of an app. I recently bought the smooth 5 gimbal because it was fully compatible with Filmic... now a punch in my ****, do you know which of the apps that you mention before can control focus etc with smooth 5? even stacam which is the app for the gimbal is subscription mode (prime +), I'm afraid that all the companies before or later will move to subscriptions model because is a way to get money for ever. Companies like Filmic have grow up because of the help of many many indie filmmakers that contributed to give a good reputation and name to the app.
I need to look into that regarding the Smooth 5. Since I use FiLMiC Pro for 99% of stuff I’m just not sure of the exact compatibility with others. Many of them just have a checkmark for “gimbals“.
You mentioned MoviePro, BeastCam and others and all what they offered but, you forgot shooting in the Flat/Log/RAW profile for colorgrading in post, does any of this app offer this very thing? I can't possibly be the only one wondering about this am I? Yeah, the Moment App but, you said it's not real Log so...hmm
Main question to even slightly consider of even buying a subscription on FilmicPro, even though I have purchased the app, cinematographer’s kit and filmic remote (and upgrading from iPhone 11pro) would be to know if cinematic mode is integrated in Filmic. I don’t know the answer to that (and also doubt that they have integrated it)
It’s not integrated at this point, although I have a sneaking suspicion they’re going to do something like that because Bending Spoons acquired Focos too (DOF app) and now FiLMiC Pro. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if they get combined in some fashion.
@@iphoneographers Thank you for the reply. Then until then, its a no-no any kind of subscription in my book (especially after paying a total of about 30-40 euros). Also, beast cam looks awesome and was STILL in special offer 1.99 euros
Did you fill in the "what do you think about a subscription model" survey that came up when you launch Filmic? "Absolutely not" was my answer to just about every question. "What would convince you otherwise?" Nothing. "Tell us more..." Are you being serious right now?
I currently don’t make any money from video editing, so there’s no way to justify the pricing plan for filmic pro. It’s really unfortunate, considering how much money I did invest in all of the filmic Pro apps, and add-ons. I will continue to use filmic legacy for as long as it’s available, but I’m certainly trying out all these other apps to look for a better permanent replacement.
Hello, I´m trying Cinema 3P pro since Filmic Pro decided to spoiedl themselves by the subscription hell. But I can´t find the remote function (very useful), and the other fault is, there´s no function for my zizhum gimbal. Please help
I hate the new Filmic Pro subscription model too and stick with the legacy version :( I want to change my camera app but I can't find any other pro camera app that has an iPad remote control like Filmic. I record my piano performances on a tripod and it's hard to push the record button for each audio take on the phone screen, Filmic Remote helps a lot.
I haven’t used it enough to comment in depth, but are you saying even when it’s locked it does that? Typically when it’s locked it won’t move even when you adjust the ISO. Although, if you’re adjusting the overall “exposure” it does it with ISO and shutter combined (unless one or both are locked). Hope that makes sense.
Blake thanks for this. Which alternative app is best integrated with Osmo gimbals? Right now I run and gun and can control exposure, focus and recording with FP combined with OM4. Just tried moment but it’s can’t do both focus and exposure from the gimbal controls. Thanks.
The links are all Apple store links and I have an Android...I am a new user but want something that is top. I understand Filmic Pro is top but what are a couple of top Android apps very similar to Filmic Pro, paid or not? Thank you for including direct links in your answers!
@@iphoneographers Thank you! Bought it and will compare to Protake and to Filmic Pro. Do you think I will be covered using only one of these, and if yes which one?
You would be covered using any one of those for sure. In many ways, it comes down to a subjective choice. But I do think FiLMiC Pro updates the most, and Protake is probably the least updated.
I’m going to stick with Filmic Pro 6 for the foreseeable future (while they still support it) because I do like it and I’m comfortable using it, but I am angry that they can do what they’ve done to people who paid full price for the app. To start charging more money - and on an ongoing basis too - is outrageous. A complete betrayal of trust between company and customer.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize the change when I upgraded a few months ago. I'm pissed that I paid for both the app and the cinema pack for v6 and can't use either now. Add to that the fact that my current videos are held hostage because you can't export without paying.
I've been exploring Filmic Pro for a few months as an occasional vlogger. There's no way of pay £50.99 a year for this but would like to continue using this version of it. I'd consider £20/ year Just in case, I've bought Beastcam which currently is only £1.79.
What the fudge. I bought the app, Cine kit, remote and film packs (Not something I need but bought it to support them). And now they want me to subscribe to keep something I already bought???
The current V6 app isn’t going anywhere. You’ll still have full access to that. Going forward, though with V7 (whenever that’s released), it’ll be a subscription app. That’s the most current info Filmic has relayed.
I often try to show cross-platform stuff, and FiLMiC Pro is available on both and so it’s Protake. From what I understand heroic vision above is correct. I’ve been wanting to try Mcpro24fps myself.
I love Mavis, but an issue I’ve faced with the app is they have a bug with their data rate recording. For example, I can select 100 mbps 4k footage, but it will only record 55 mbps. I’ve contacted Mavis about, but haven’t heard back yet. Here’s hoping. Until then, Protake is a great app.
That is one negative to Mavis is that their app updates are few and far between. Typically it’s been pretty solid though, but that is something to consider.
Haven’t noticed that shooting in standard mode, but I have with their flat or log. It’s definitely more desaturated and it seems like there’s more green in the image as I recall.
The current V6 app isn’t going anywhere and so you’ll always be able to access that, at least for the time being. But the new version if you want to go with that will be a subscription. That’s my understanding right now anyway.
Question, A popup just came up when I tried to use the app forcing me to accept a new terms subscription to continue use or delete the app? What the hell am I accepting? I'm NOT paying these people again for a subscription service. Can I accept the use of the app without accepting payments for a subscription? What happens if I accept?
If you are a current user then you just accept it, and nothing will change with your V6 app. It’s mainly referring to V7 and the subscription whenever that is released. Going forward it will be a different cost if you want to upgrade. Otherwise you can continue to use V6 as is.
@@iphoneographers Thanks. I was one of the ones who received their admitted mistake in wording on the acceptance. Supposedly it's changed now on the agreement. They caused a lot of confusion.
Looking for an App where I can use a 2nd device (iPad, etc) as a monitor for filming uke videos on iPhone (back camera) so I can see what is being filmed. Don’t need a ton of Pro controls. App must have remote control ability to view the iPhone. Saw that Filmic Pro did this but subscription way too expensive. Is Movie Pro / Movie Pro Remote the only app you reviewed here that has that ability ? Do you know of any other apps that can do this function. Thanks
Can someone please tell me where exactly I’m able to unblock the use of the gimbal in Mavis? I looked in the app settings, but there is no in app purchase, or anything that indicate that the app can be used with a gimbal. Also there is no mention of it on the Mavis website. Cheers!
It’s confusing to me as well. In the App Store it says you can purchase it, but I’ve purchased all the functions to my knowledge and I don’t see it either. I’m going to look into that.
It's funny because I love Protake and haven't used it in about a month because I haven't shot anything recently. So I was surprised to see that damn shutter/iso wheel there which is one of my biggest gripes about Filmic Pro. I HATE the way it works in FIlmic Pro. I guess they redesigned the interface a little to make it more familiar to folks leaving Filmic. Lol. But I like the way Protake implements it.
@@iphoneographers sir when record vide in cinema p3 ,, videos is not smooth .. when I take moving shorts and running shorts … so which frame setting I must do
These are all only available for IOS. Im from the Philippines most of us here are Android users, Filmic pro is the only Camera Control app available here and its getting expensive for me.
Something odd is happening with Filmic Pro without subscription. If you're not connected to the web the app will show an error message telling you that you're not connected to the web. So I guess the new owners of Filmic Pro want to know when are you using the app and who knows what else. I DON'T LIKE THIS. It invades my privacy. I paid for the app and whatever I do with it is none of their business. I really hope MAVIS offers true LOG in the future so I don't need to use Filmic Pro as long as it's subscription based.
That is not just a privacy issue (looks like a bad implementation of checking subscriptions). But it means that you can‘t use the app on a plane or outdoors in a remote location without network connection.
I had that happen one time but after it checked that it doesn’t do it anymore. I usually shoot in airplane mode so I have all connectivity turned off and it’s working ok. If that continues you might try reinstalling the app.
Haven’t used that one. Looks like it’s geared more towards social media, but does have a lot of features. My current favorite alternative is Cinema P3 - or BeastCam.
Sounds like you’re in auto mode. If memory serves, you just slide either slider and once it’s set it locks. And there’s an auto button at the bottom you can release it.
@@iphoneographers I thought the same but no luck. I’ve read everything I can find and wrote an email to them but have not gotten a reply. I really want to use this app as it works with the time code generator I have.
I’ve tested it and not having that issue. It should definitely lock. Although you can get some shifts (in all apps) due to dynamic tone mapping, but typically only in low light and/or higher contrast moving shots. It’s possible you need to update the app or possibly delete it and reinstall. Mavis support isn’t always great. Hope you get it figured out.
Whatever path we choose to go forward, we all need to understand that whichever app solution we choose is merely a temporary option. What may be considered a viable option today, may also end up taking an unexpected turn. Once an app reaches full maturity, ALL developers will strongly consider cashing in either by selling out to another concern or adapting to a subscription model. Nothing lasts forever.
Not all developers are thinking like that. The case of FilmicPro is anyway special, since they were bought by 'Bending Spoon', a company that is obviously specialized on cashing out successful apps. BTW, they also bought Evernote. So leaving FilmicPro behind you is unavoidable.
With apps that use their own library rather than the phone’s photo stream, can other apps (such as Luma Fusion) then see those libraries directly or do you have to mess about copying files within the phone before you can access them for editing?
I need to double check, but I think you can access those app folders via LumaFusion. But maybe not all of them. Otherwise you can save those to the LumaFusion directory or the Files app. And if you prefer to work that way, then most of these will let you save directly to the Photos app anyway.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but seems like FilmicPro is the only app able to shoot in real log profile. The others like Moment or Protake have their log profiles only as looks applied to the footage like a filter in Instagram. Here I have a question: does it make sense to shoot in 10 bit without log? AFAIK 10 bit 4:2:2 is required for color grading on post. But how will you color grade your footage shot in default profile (not flat or log)? Will someone help?
To my knowledge that is the case, yes. It’s a true logarithmic profile. The others are more or less filters. However, yes, shooting in 10 bit is a good idea regardless. And you can get good results w/o log for sure. Log is really designed to help with dynamic range while capturing the footage and then giving you more latitude for grading in post. But shooting log on a phone is not the same as shooting it on a traditional camera, you do definitely get some benefit, but not as much. This video might help… th-cam.com/video/BFacMUeMycU/w-d-xo.html
MoviePro and Beastcam seem interesting but can you set the fps as slow as or close to 1 second? It really bugs me that FiLMiC Pro doesn't go slower than 1/24.
Are you referring to FPS or shutter? In filmic the slowest shutter is 1/24, but in some other apps you can go lower like Moment, although that may be for slow shutter photography only now that I think about it.
@@iphoneographers I guess shutter. Funny that you mention the one app, Moment, I'm staying away from because of how they pulled out Timelapse and started charging it separately. Well that was the initial reason. Now it is actually because of the tons of recent bad reviews.

@@RogerBrenon I accepted it, but there was no further prompts for a typical in app purchase.
It just allows me to use it as it’s always been.
@@BBAACKE Thanks. It sure doesn't read that way though. Other people saying the same thing. Their drunk legal department is causing a lot of confusion and they are admitting their mistakes in the prompt were wrong.
Thanks!
Thank God MoviePro has a remote, that's a huge plus when filming yourself.
The rest, film emulations and everything, I can overcome having paid them for naught, but a lack of Remote App would be a turn off for Filmic remplacements.
Agreed. MoviePro is the only app that offers it. I've established that it works, but I haven't done a full blown video with the apps yet.
Yay!! I’ll be purchasing Mavis Pro Camera!!! ❤
Understood! You might also check out Cinema P3… th-cam.com/video/jJ9B89LF99g/w-d-xo.html
Since we purchased with the understanding that it was a one time purchase shouldn’t they refund those of us who do not subscribe?
How about cinema p3 pro app.
Excellent video. Heads up/Warming… BeastCam is currently broken on the 14 ProMax (Pro too?). ProRes is no longer available and 10. Bit the screen goes crazy. They are aware of the problems but have not indicated a fix is coming soon.
Yeah that’s an issue, but fortunately only w the 14.
Thanks for the reviews. I am leaning towards Beastcam if FiLMiC goes to subscribe.
Don't forget that some people on android can't see the option to download the legacy version, so I bought an app in 2021 that I can't no longer use!!!
Go for it dude, I'm guessing this would only for the US customers?
@@iphoneographers I can’t find one article or video about their gimbal support. There’s not much info out there on this app at all.

Nice video! I’ve been playing with cinema p3 app lately and have been enjoying its feature set especially for price of pro version
Yep been left them for protake
The real problem here, is that there is no guarantee that someone (or even the same company that bought out FilmicPro) won't buy the alternate app(s) and start charging a subscription as well. As long that is the case, I'd say your real choice is between the native Camera app (at least until it occurs to Apple to start charging for features on a monthly basis) and whichever app does what you need regardless of price.
thats why i was leaning to go for the one bought by atomos, I'm from a 3rd world country and paid filmic pro right before they went subscription model and I can use it on my new phone.
I refuse to pay monthly or yearly fees to use a program that was purchased without a subscription.
I wouldn't rathered they raise the price substantially and then charge for future updates than a subscription model
I know workers have to be paid and funded to keep updating software so that's why I'm fine with higher costs and paying for updates.
But I know what you mean and filmic is really good about that, especially using the different modes.
great video lots to think about.... what would be the best one with a remote?,
i have to have a remote because my iPhone is so far away from me so controlling the app from my ipad is a must....
Really that’s either FiLMiC Pro or MoviePro regarding a remote app. You can still use legacy V6 on Filmic Pro if you already had it.
Thanks again Blake, another nice non-biased review, keep the great work up mate.
MoviePro also has "Clean HDMI Out" for those who would like to use their iPhone as a studio camera. I don't think any of the others have that. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Protake has it as well. Thanks!
@@iphoneographers Interesting. I guess you have be a subscriber to even see that that is an option. I couldn't see it poking around on the free version, and I didn't see it in the description of the app either.
I didn't think to just try plugging in the cable. It works on the free version just fine.
I think most if not all the apps here that allow for anamorphic will also desqueeze.
I've tried CinemaP3 and it is really good. Could you do a real review of it. I seem to think it has been underrated. Thanks!
Thanks!
Hmmm.. does any of these have android version?
Thank you for posting the video! Could you review the MAVIS App in various scenarios, environments, lenses, and video examples?
Will take that into consideration, thanks for watching!
Check out the Cinema P3 camera probably my new fave one-time cost app now… th-cam.com/video/jJ9B89LF99g/w-d-xo.html

I made all my TH-cam vids with filmic Pro so far but I was thinking about dropping filmic Pro and using my s21 Pro video native app for a while. The main reason is that the in phone app has access to 8k. Subscription by filmic pro just made my decision so much easier.
I use Beastcam, I like it more than Filmic pro.
what happens to the money i paid for the app before it was subscription based?
Great review! Can i mirror the iPhone camera to the iPad using BeastCam or ProTake like FilmicPro does?
If you’re talking about using their remote app, you can do that with MoviePro.
I’m keeping both apps and I’m gonna do the tedious thing of filming my shots on Filmic Pro 7, and going into Files app just to transfer my footage from v7 to Legacy.
Interesting hack (albeit tedious as you say) if it’ll work.
I saw the survey but did not fill it out. Maybe I should have. :)
How do you get to purchase the in app option on Mavis pro? Can’t seem to find it.
Please help
Have you tried pro Camera, it's got auto racking, very smooth?
I hate the new Filmic Pro subscription model too and stick with the legacy version :( I want to change my camera app but I can't find any other pro camera app that has an iPad remote control like Filmic. I record my piano performances on a tripod and it's hard to push the record button for each audio take on the phone screen, Filmic Remote helps a lot.
I've used ProMovie on several occasions. However, it changes shutter speed to 40 whenever exposure is changed, and I can't figure out why.
Thanks.
Filmic Pro performs poorly for clean HDMI video connected via HDMI cable to a PC. The video feed is choppy. I stopped using it a while ago.

You can simply roll back to V6. Go to the information menu and choose download Legacy V6.
@@iphoneographers Yeah, found the Legacy version and was able to move the clips over after I posted. Thanks for the assist, though.

Just in case, I've bought Beastcam which currently is only £1.79.
Definitely understood and BeastCam is very good.
What the fudge. I bought the app, Cine kit, remote and film packs (Not something I need but bought it to support them). And now they want me to subscribe to keep something I already bought???
Hopefuly you can use without sub.taking a app away from some one that paid,is stealing.
The current V6 app isn’t going anywhere. You’ll still have full access to that. Going forward, though with V7 (whenever that’s released), it’ll be a subscription app. That’s the most current info Filmic has relayed.

The best for Android as of now is Mcpro24fps, ProTake and Motion Cam

BeastCam is great. Right now they do have a bug with the iPhone 14 Pro though so just beware for using a later phone. A fix is in the works though.
@@iphoneographers good to know. I just went to the 13 Pro.

If you are a current user then you just accept it, and nothing will change with your V6 app. It’s mainly referring to V7 and the subscription whenever that is released. Going forward it will be a different cost if you want to upgrade. Otherwise you can continue to use V6 as is.

The only one I know of besides Filmic Pro is MoviePro. You could also get a Lightning to HDMI adapter and go out to an external monitor.
Is there flat picture profile in Mavis app?
I don’t believe so. But they’ve added some stuff since I’ve used it regularly, so it’s possible (I haven’t seen it though).
Do any of these apps allow you to view the shot on an iPad or Mac live?
MoviePro has a remote app like Filmic Pro.
One thing is certain, I will not be moving to a subscription based model, period.
Can I use my airpods as microphone when shooting video in any of the apps? Like Beastcam? Hope you can answer
Yes, many apps will let you record with a Bluetooth microphone.
Will all of these apps to dual camera and HDMI clean feed?
No. Clean HDMI is ProTake and Cinema P3, maybe one more. Dual camera is MoviePro and ProTake.
Didn’t notice that it had changed! I’m not a consistent user of Protake. But that’s interesting.

Yes. ProTake and MoviePro for sure, probably others too.

Do any of the alternatives offer HDMI output so I can use the app as a webcam source like Filmic Pro?
Yes. ProTake and MoviePro, probably others too that I don’t know about.
what do you think of procamera?
Haven’t used that one. Looks like it’s geared more towards social media, but does have a lot of features. My current favorite alternative is Cinema P3 - or BeastCam.
Hallo. Can you recommend video app with LogV2,3? Except Filmic Pro.
Check out Cinema P3… th-cam.com/video/ILJ6YY1d3IU/w-d-xo.html
I can’t seem to keep the iso/shutter to lock in Mavis. The slider moves on its own even when not in auto. I’m sure I’m missing something.
@@iphoneographers I have the same experience (14 Pro). Switched to manual but it keeps jumping back, both ISO and shutter
Interesting. Might be a bug? I admittedly don’t use this app regularly, but when I do (including my recent tests) I haven’t encountered that.
Well, we will move to the other ones till they reach their "full maturity" and off to the next one, what's hard in that?
This is BS. Complete and utter BS.
@@igakoga2481YESSSS!!!!!! Thank you!
@@iphoneographers Thanks
@@iphoneographers anyway, no filmic pro means no real log profile on the phone. Sad((
Hope these guys lose tons of money and realize they screwed up.
Hello, what's the app that support full feature zhiyun smooth 5 and anamorphic lens beside filmic pro? thank you
I don’t think there is one. 😆 I need to do some more testing though.
@@iphoneographers thx you for your reply. The wheel in smooth 5 can use for zoom and focus in protake? Or maybe you want to make a review about protake and smooth 5, hahaha
have you tried still using the old filmic V6? They want me to download a new app?
Yes, you can download the legacy V6 version as long as you had it before.
@@iphoneographers I've had it for years. Thanks I'll try it.
@@iphoneographers Should I allow the Filmic Legacy to access the microphone?
Thanks for this...I really hate that I purchased the FP app initially and now it's going to a subscription model. Really disappointed in FP and will no longer be using it. Thank you for showing us some alternatives. Anyone that already has the app should be grandfathered in, to me at least, like you I promote them a LOT and won't any longer. Honestly hope this backfires on them...really bad decision.
Just sucks, I’m a film student so on top of tuition (and everything else that comes with college) and of course adobe, I can’t swing another subscription. Really sad cause I love FilmicPro
I really hope they eventually will offer a free or a lite version too. It’s really a must.
Loving Beastcam.
