    Just an FYI a few things I didn't cover... This app does not offer gimbal control or clean HDMI out - at least I can't find it. Also, while you can shoot log which is great, it doesn't appear to offer ProRes log. Filmic Pro has all these features. I'm still learning this app and it's not perfect, but overall I'm finding it to be a solid, feature-packed affordable option. -BC

      I like it and BeastCam. I did have an issue once with Cinema P3 where my audio was out of sync when imported into FCPX. I also noticed in the info section that even though I recorded in 24 fps it would show the fps as 23.89 or even 22.7 once. Makes me a little nervous to use for a project. I do think it produces really nice looking video though. Maybe cleaner looking than Filmic.

      Hey guys! I’ve been trying to get everyone to look at this app. Personally, I believe it’s a fantastic replacement for filmic pro.
      You can film in ProRes 4k 24fps Rec-709 and use the B-LOG setting when in creative mode.
      If you have suggestions or concerns, reach out to the developer. He’s very informative and gets back to you asap.

      I never used a lot of the filmic pro controls anyway. The biggest thing I used was the Audio Controls. So as long as this app has an audio level meter and a way to control it. I’m good. Since the announcement with filmic pro was made, I’ve gone back to my native camera controls. It leaves me guessing about about my audio.

    Timely video, my version of Filmic Pro won't work unless I'm connected to the internet which is very difficult for me as I work in remote areas in Australia without phone reception. Filmic Pro pro needs to honour their previous customers with a life time working guarantee of the app I think. I've used the app for years and without it I would have been unable to shoot a lot of things with my iPhone. Looks like I'll be heading over to Cinema P3. Thanks.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a bug right now with FiLMiC Pro, it should only do that one time after you install, or reinstall the app. But it is definitely a problem, and not sure why they haven’t fixed it yet. But I am liking this P3 app quite a bit, and the developer is very open to suggestions.

    The Notability app moved to a subscription model, but existing purchasers started screaming about the fact they'd purchased the app and were now being asked to accept subscription, and Apple acted and forced the developers to keep Notability free for legacy purchasers. Surely the same applies for legacy purchasers of Filmic Pro who bought the app outright originally.

    • @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
      @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I got a new phone and installed Filmic Pro again from my purchases, it's all functioning as normal so probably the same applies. I originally paid around £34.00 or £37.00 for the bundle (Firstlight & Filmic Pro) because I assumed they would eventually go the subscription route. I think when you get the chance to purchase an app outright that's prob got great potential, it's a good idea as eventually it may go subscription based too; just like the rest Mr Bowwman.

      @umbertoaguiar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will never happen. Filmic Pro is now just the name of the app. The owner is a new one, an Italian company that can afford to have less customers than filmic pro had and seeing that many fanatics are paying for the subscription, Bending Spoons will still profit.

    • @reggaerocket
      @reggaerocket 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@umbertoaguiar I think Filmic Pro has actually crossed a line, by doing something that is actually ILLEGAL in most countries. Surely it must (ABSOLUTELY must) be in breach of app store rules. We just need to make more noise for apple to take notice.
      1. I bought the app a year ago. Yet was forced to upgrade to the new app.
      2. While attempting to use the app I ALREADY paid for, I was forced to film with the new app. No clear option to revert to or stick to the app I paid for.
      3. Then in order to access the files I filmed with the new app, I was FORCED to subscribe to the new app. As if I had not already paid for the functionality. I was systematically denied access to an app I paid for (Denial of Service), in their attempt to extract a specific undue commercial benefit. PLUS denied access to my own personal content. (Ransomware).
      I have no doubt that this is illegal. For many reasons.

    I was pretty "pissed" as I found out about the rediculous price increase. So I went back to using the camera app that came with the iPhone 13ProMax. I tell you what. The cinematic mode has become so much better. I see no reason for a separate app. I still use ND filters, of course, and I am happy with the results. I also did more tests with handheld vs. Gimbal, and I think I will sell my Gimbal when I get my 14Pro in 2 months.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Cinematic mode a lot too. It’s great especially on the 14. But what’s not great is you can’t even lock the exposure or white balance like you at least can with the standard video camera. And of course you can’t do any manual shutter or ISO. So I end up using it for more casual stuff, which it works well for that.

    Has anyone else noticed that the non-subscription version of Filmic Pro doesn't work if you don't have internet connection?

    • @tpnotes_yt
      @tpnotes_yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The „subscription“ (aka „bought previously“ information) sticks after you open the app with internet connection and you can open the app offline. For me it took three or four times, for others the information sticks after first opening right away. - Seems like something minor, but that implementation is one of the reasons why I no longer use filmic pro. If you do not use the app very often, there is a realistic chance, you open it up in a remote location and it will not work because the app have not called home for a while and needs confirmation first - my personal nightmare

    Can iPhone features like Cinematic mode or Slo-Mo be accessed while using this app or are those only available in the native camera app? If not, are you aware of a 3rd party app that allows access to those features? I want the control of locking my shutter speed to 1/48 sec while still getting the faux-bokeh of Cinematic mode.

      Cinematic mode is technically only available in the native app. However, there are two other apps that do a similar thing, but they also are more or less full auto settings. I did a comparison of them here th-cam.com/video/W9I_nDV35lw/w-d-xo.html. I do hope manual control comes to CM soon. Now slowmo you can do in any third-party app with full manual control.

    Will this app record at a constant frames per second? For example, will 4K30 be a true 29.97 fps, or will it be all over the place like the native iPhone camera ... 29.76, 30.0001, 29.8 etc? I can't find any settings in the native camera that will stop this, and it's really annoying when each clip is a slightly different frame rate. Some clips are so far off that they're seemingly unusable, even after encoding them.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  ปีที่แล้ว

      The third party apps do a MUCH better job at keeping the frame rate consistent. You almost never see the odd numbers like you do with the native app. However, smartphones in general record VFR, so you can’t really stop it. But again, these apps present it to your editing app as a constant rate. One thing you can always do if/when this is an issue is conform any clips to the proper frame rate within the editing app (each app does this differently). Or you can even transcode the files to create new ones with exact timecode (but I almost never do this anymore).

    • @yourhomesoldrealty

    • @iphoneographers

      The kind of phone you’re using is probably the most important thing. The newer iPhones, really starting with the 12 Pro Max do considerably better in low light. After that, use a third-party app that allows you to manually control the ISO and shoot in a higher bit rate. Keep the ISO as low as possible. I’d like to something of value in a recent discovery. It evolves around the purchase of the Moment 18mm lens. My iPhone 14 Pro Max with the 18mm on the default camera app hops between the three lenses for what it thinks is the best one due to lighting. Simply unusable! So I turn to the Moment app. Cool features for being free BUT the video setting loses the IPhones native stabilization even with the stabilizing turned on in the Moment app. Not good. Which brings me to this comment section and app of topic. This camera app, on the free version, KEEPS the native stabilization and HDR setting! This is a deal breaker as I am currently in a “run and gun” project game hunting outdoors. My setup is simple using the Joby 1K tripod as my handle. (Thanks, Casey)
    And for those wondering the Moment 18mm V2 lens DOES have dark spots on the sides with the 14 Pro Max. Annoying but I’ll just crop the image in post. Anyway, I hope this insight is useful.
