First Week With My Dachshund Puppy: Biting, Training, & Tips

  • I feel like the first week with my new miniature Dachshund puppy, Otter, is going smoother than it did with my last Dachshund puppy, Summit (*note: I slip up once in the video and say "Summit grow" when I meant to say Otter)
I learned so many lessons that first time. Otter has been such a joy. He’s a smart, friendly little boy who loves food, which will make training him easy (thank goodness).
In this vlog, I share about my experience flying home with him, how he is integrating into our pack, and our training progress.
I hope you enjoy our video and please subscribe to follow him as he grows!

This was so great hearing everything about bringing Otter home! So fun to see how Brody has been interacting with Otter. So good to hear about the potty training. Love hearing about the training.

I just found and I am so glad. I got my first Dachshund 3 days ago and the biting and potty training!!! I was expecting the potty issues but she's like a little monster when she starts biting EVERYTHING! Hearing you say those are the 2 most common things with puppies has given me some hope! I look forward to watching you and getting more information to help me with my baby. Thank you!

@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener thank you so much for your response and for the article. Do you have any tips on how to stop all the biting and nipping? She gets into a frenzy sometimes, and nothing I have been doing seems to be working. Thanks again!

Hi, my puppy is 10 1/2 weeks and no way she would sit sweetly like Otter. She would immediately start biting and squirming. She has been home 2 weeks and we have never cuddled. She has made my husband bleed multiple times. It makes any kind of training difficult because she is less interested in food and more interested in biting. I have never held her more than 10 seconds. I see your sweet affectionate puppy and it's quite heartbreaking realizing this is not going to be our experience. Hoping she grows out of it at some point.

My family just got a Dachsie like Brodie. His name is Baloo, about 14 weeks. We are loving the heck out of him. Learning the ins and outs of owning a Dachshund. 🍻

Well done. Glad that trainer spoke up. I’ll remember that because we don’t have a solid routine, just if I do something, you all need to use the time to rest.

@@YouDidWhatWithYourWiener hi again. We are relatively new to fostering dachshunds, having now had 3 in our home over the last 6 months! We are on a hiatus at the moment due to me having back surgery in early December 2023! We will pick up our fostering hats again in February 2024 and look forward to having more little souls in our home.
