It depends on what he was going after, but the items were almost always toys or natural chews. I did also use a leather and wool "toy" from Tail Tails Dog. He saw it more as something to chew on than play with (toy) but it distracted him. I also redirected him with training exercises. If I asked him to sit for a treat, he would forget what he was doing and move onto something else.
